Just one on each finger....I love doing this, Phil's family apparently never had any fun at meal time, and he is always appalled when I do it! LOL Leave it to me to appall someone!

Paul...NO Boones Farm! I have 3 bottles of champagne, and some sparkling cider for the kiddies and the teetotalers.......
a little scotch for the hard-cores......
See, if I get 'em all tanked up, they won't notice if my cooking stinks!;)

:sunny: When I lived in Flagstaff Mmy neighbors horses used to get out. Suprising coming outside one morning and finding stock in my front yard.

When I bought the land on which I later built my house I was particularly attracted by a HUGE Spanish Oak tree at which, when the time came, I held a thinly-attended burial service for my precious 17-year-old kitty. The earth is mostly hard-packed rock here and, as a friend and I were stabbing away trying to make a decently constructed grave, we heard a noise and turned to find a small herd of longhorn cattle moseying up on us. I had heard that cattle would walk away from you if you approached them so, with my friend tugging at my sleeve, I decided to try to drive them away. It might have been smarter just to let them be but as I looked at the area around them, us, the kitty grave, and the tree, I noticed a well-worn trail that they must have been using as a short cut for a long time.

I also looked at the enormous span of the pointed horns on the lead cow. Must have been 5 feet, anyway, (any fishermen out there?)

I stood slowly and took a step toward them. Then another. Then another. Some experiment...Just WHERE had I heard that? I took a few more steps and, luckily, the lead cow turned and took her party off to try a different path....

I'd forgotten all about it until all this talk of crazed livestock came up...
I wonder now why I just didn't throw one of the millions of rocks that are the only natural resource on my property.

pirate: TFD

Hey snuck a T.O.P without realizing it.... Not a very good pirate.... wasn't keeping track of the count....

Virgil - got your pm and sent one in return.

GaRry - sent you a pm as well.

Sad day in Nascar as a plane belonging to the Hendrick organization went down killing all aboard. One of my favorite drivers Terry Labonte is from the Hendrick organization. Very sad indeed.

Dressing/stuffing? My Mom always made the best corn bread & sage stuffing.

For several years, we had home brewed pumpkin beer at Thanksgiving, but DH is not brewing any more. I just found something that might work at our wine store. A winery here in NM makes fruit wines similar to the ones I liked in FL. I bought a bottle of cranberry wine to try out before turkey day.

Has anyone seen an inexpensive, small Xmas Tree with battery powered lights. I know some have been looking at the Telefloral tree. I guess I'm looking for something that could be inexpensive enough to toss at the end of the cruise if we didn't want to carry it home.

I've seen a couple of 2 foot, lighted, battery powered trees, mostly with white lights on the Internet. Just wondered if anyone else had seen anything.

We have been determined from day 1 to go on this cruise, but we bought the insurance just because I feel like if we didn't something would happen and it is just to money to gamble with.

We've already discussed that no matter what happens we are going. Mark's grandmother is getting up in years and her health has been failing. I do think this will be the only time we actually do the holiday away from home. The guilt from the in-laws is already setting in and I'm sure it will get worse before it gets better. Its harder work wise as well. That's why this cruise will be special.

So Stacey you might be a mean mom (not!), but I'm the mean DIL taking her first born away from her at Christmas. :(

That sounds like my MIL. Her comment was that my DH should spend Christmas with his "family". What does she think I am??

My family is ok with it. My grandmother died in February of Burkitts Lymphoma (it's a VERY rare form of Leukemia). She didn't get sick until just after Thanksgiving last year. We just thought she had the Flu. She finally got so bad (she refused to go to the doctor's) that my mom had her admitted to the hospital. Two days later she was diagnosed with leukemia. It was up and down from there. At the beginning of February came the crusade to get my brother home from the ship so he could say goodbye to our grandmother. She knew she wouldn't make it. She told my mom the weekend before she was admitted to the hospital that if she went she wasn't coming home.

Anyway, Christmas was HER holiday. She LOVED Christmas. She got all of us - her 3 married kids, 4 married grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren - although my brother wasn't home in 2003 (he's in the Navy and he was out on the USS Enterprise at the time). We have around 18 people (17 this year) at my parents house all talking at once and messing around (we have some jokesters in the family). My grandmother used to go all out with presents so much so that they filled half my parents living room. So, we decided that this year would be really weird. My mom said she doesn't really want to be home for Christmas anyway - they'll go down to Virginia Beach to my brother, SIL and neices house. My Nanny dieing was what sealed the deal on the cruise for us. We were still debating it until then.

Sorry to bore all of you with my sob story. Just thought I'd tell you. I miss her like crazy, and I've been thinking about her a lot lately, so I thought I'd tell you about her.:sad1:
