Oh, I hear ya! I can't believe some of the talk over there. And if *anyone* tells them to settle down in anyway then you get the "your vacation wasn't ruined, you have no right to talk!!" I feel for them. It must be stressful not knowing when you're going, or even IF you're going. But, last I read, Disney did not control the weather.

A trip being disrupted by a hurricane is in the back of my head....next we we're scheduled to sail 10/22. If my dd gets a part in a play we'll probably change that to September sometime. Dead on high peak hurricane season. We understand and accept the risks.

Mary, you're right....you'd wish they'd just cancel the cruise. Because if they are like this now, you know they are going to be demanding and unreasonable on the cruise too, and innocent CM's will suffer. That's one reason I'd NEVER recommend a Disney cruise to my sister and her husband. They both have that "entitlement" attitude and think that they should be comensated for any little thing that doesn't go perfectly. I'll never vacation with them or cruise with them. I'm too embarrassed when they get like that.

OM - you are so right. :bounce: I knew someone in the midwest especially would figure that one out.

For us the big company around here is Honda. A large part of my dh's practice works there.

Speaking of JD....the guy who owns our local JD dealership lives on our road. Beautiful house. Backs up to the country club. Pool. Tennis courts. Apparently it's been for sale for the last 6 yrs. There was an ugly divorce and wife wants dh (d is not for "dear" in this case) to sell the house and wants 1/2. Dh loves the house and doesn't want to move so he has it listed at some OBSCENE price!! It's a beautiful house, but sits on the low end of our street and I hear that the basement floods regularly. Too bad.

Ah, that's my brush with JD fame. ;)

May have found a kennel for Maggie. We *might* go Monday for a tour, although Bush is coming to town and we're trying to get tickets to that. Kennel sounds nice. Beats leaving this beast at a friends house and having her destroy the place. Right now she's back in her crate because of bad behavior. Apparently the words "off" and "leave it" don't mean anything to this brain damaged dog today.

YIPPIE!!! :bounce: With my last post I just got number 10,383!! I didn't want to tell anyone I was going for that one for fear someone would pirate: it away from me!! ;)

Thanks for the creative thought Mary. I went back and changed my post. Sometimes it just too early in the morning to be that creative.

BTW - I think the idea for the newsletter is great I will PM you our excursions.

OM - congrats on post 10,383.

:sunny: Good Morning!
Tossed and turned a lot last night, but still feeling MUCH better. Just a little sore. And so far, the voice seems to be getting back to normal. Thanks, everyone.

:cake: :bday: HAPPY BIRTHDAY LISA!!!

:cake: :bday: HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEB!!

Ohminnie....10,383 ?? There must be something significant that I'm too slow to catch this morning?

The notepads and pencil holders came yesterday. They are all either Santa or Snowmen. The pencil holders match, I thought that was cute. But the notepads are a little disappointing. The cardboard that they are on (with the Santa, etc) is really thin. They'll still work just fine, I was just expecting they'd be a little nicer than that.

I'm trying not to panic about what didn't get done all week. I have invoices that need to go out...that's probably #1...and laundry...among other things. I will probably not go to our ball games tonight, and try to at least get the clothes washed. Still having an ongoing debate in my head....should we take 10 pairs (at least) of underwear on the cruise, or should I actually (gasp!) do laundry on the ship? Are the machines clean? Is it really hard to get a machine?

Here's another question: I've read somewhere about a Pirate Night.....do they do this on all the longer cruises? If so, are we expected to wear something pirate: ?

Have to get a few things done before I head out this morning. If I don't get back over here, have a really nice day!!

Stacey

Pirate Night sounds a little trickier to dress for than Tropical night. They might do both on our cruise, though. Those of you on the St. Lucia excursion will be pirate pros by the end of the cruise!

OM, we bought a somewhat rare, purebred dog some years ago that turned out to be an absolute horror and completely untrainable. Actually, that was the last dog we owned, except for the one we adopted to try and keep him calm. He was a Schipperke, and was truly a little Tasmanian devil. I think it was a case of inbreeding. I hope your puppy is nothing like that!

Stacey - I've lived in Sunnyvale most of my life, so it's entirely possible that I have run into one of you family members at some point! Sing it with me - "It's a small world after all, it's a small world after all...." :hyper:

DH and I are both early risers - we get up about 4:30am, but that means we're in bed by 9pm. Weekends mean sleeping in until 7!! Problem is, the cat's don't care what day of the week it is, so they still wake us up for breakfast at 5am. Because we're left-coasters, we still opt for the late seating because that is the closest to our normal dinner time of about 6:30.

My wish for this cruise (my third) is that I can pry myself out of bed early enough to watch the ship doc at Castaway Cay!

Now, off to receive my mid-year review from my boss...:earseek: :crazy2:

Cheers, Kara

Thanks for all the birthday wishes. And it's the big 4-0! DD actually said "Mom, that's OLD." I told her it's just a number LOL!

Stace, sorry to hear about the dental work. I have really soft teeth and I can sympathize. I'm also good friends with our dentist, so I know he doesn't do the work unless it really needs to be done, but it's still no fun. I also remember telling a dentist that his shot hurt more than my epidural. He didn't think it was funny though. I never went back to that dentist.

I didn't get on earlier because I had to run DD to the dermitologist, then DH took me out for a nice birthday lunch (all together now, AWWWW isn't he sweet?) We ended up sitting next to the Naval Academy football coach, and having a nice conversation, so it wasn't romantic, but it was still nice. DS had a bowling party with his Sunday school class, and I had to come back into work to knock out a few things. Now I'm just waiting on a call from DH that he's ready to go, and come on weekend!!

We might be visiting the county fair tonight, but if not, I'll be in chat. I'll send the excursion info in a bit Mary, but we aren't doing a lot.

On to the questions.

Me - I'm usually an early to rise, early to bed kind of person. We get up at 5:00 am all week, and I'm usually up by 7 no matter what. My kids used to call me "Snorlax" from Pokemon because when I get tired, it's very hard to keep me awake, and I get pretty darned grumpy. Once we're on vacation though, I'll shift slightly later. I really like visiting the clubs since I love to dance and I don't get to do it often. Our first cruise, I was so excited that I was up at 4 am walking around deck 9. I learned that's when they power wash the decks. We were in an inside room, so I just took my book and found a chair in one of the elevator lobbies and read until they opened Topsiders. I probably will be the first one up in our family throughout the cruise. I'll bring a tray down for them to snack on in the morning. Who was it that was looking for a breakfast buddy? I'll probably volunteer!

DH - He's actually a bit of an insomniac (takes after his dad). If he's actually sleeping, he'll sleep in til about 7 most days. From a lifetime of sleep difficulties, he tends to survive on about 5-6 hours of sleep without much problem, so he'll join me at the nightclubs (good thing so I have someone to dance with).

DD - She hasn't quite hit the teenaged need to sleep in. She'll probably be up early to start with, but will probably sleep later as the trip goes on. She does like the oceaneer's lab in the evening, so she'll probably be there until midnight most nights.

DS - He's our sleepyhead. He fights going to bed in the evenings, and likes to sleep in really late. I made the sitter wake him up by 9 all summer long, but if you just leave him alone, he'll sleep til 10 or later. Another one for late night at the lab. First trip, I was ready for bed, but he didn't want to leave the lab. He didn't have sign out privileges, so I set the alarm, took a nap then went back to get him!

We do have late seating on the ship, so that will keep us up later, since no one wants to go to bed on a full stomach!

Okay - here we go again. Jeanne can blow right on out to sea - just not toward any island. I left for school at 6 this morning so I could stop for gas - luckily they hadn't run out yet and the line wasn't even too long. Waited about 30 minutes. Store shelves are out of bread, water, batteries, the usual. Luckily we had stocked up early - wanted more water, just to be on the safe side. Oh well - we'll make out okay. DS and DH are going to board up tomorrow. I just wish that they would have picked up all the debris that has been sitting in front of all the houses since the last storm. What we're going to do with it now I have no clue. Just what I wanted to do - rake up the same stuff again!
Stacey - sorry to hear about your dental work. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!
Gotta go - headed to Cracker Barrel for our usual pre-hurricane dinner. Of course, I'll have to do some country store shopping while I'm there. Hopefully, we'll have to wait for a table.

I've never had an epidural, so I can't relate to that, but I remember that, as a kid (and really until I was about 25) I would have all dental work done WITHOUT novacaine because I hated that shot so much!!! Talk about pain!! But I'd grip the armrests and get through it without novacaine.
Then I grew up and went to a better dentist. The first filling I needed I refused novacaine and he thought I was a nut. Well, he drilled (and I'm guessing he drilled farther than he had to just to prove a point) and I nearly jumped out of the chair. He looks at me smugly and says "NOW do you want the novacaine??" Do I agreed. Well, he put some cream on my gum for 5 minutes and then injected so slowly that I never even felt the needle!! It was truly amazing!
Now I refuse to get novacaine until they give me the cream!!

We have a great dentist now and I actually look forward to going. The kids go to a pedi-Dentist who is WONDERFUL (and also loves Disney) so it's fun to go there too. He always thinks he stumping me by asking me Disney questions and is flabergasted that I know the answers!

Oh, btw, I adore my ob/gyn too and look forward to those appointments. Guess I'm some sort of freak of nature, huh?

Early bird vs. night owl....

In college I was an early bird. Used to irritate the crap out of my roomies! But I had early clinicals for nursing school so I was in the routine of getting up early. They just couldn't stand the fact that I was up and PERKY. :)

Now it varies...If I get to bed at a decent hour, I'm up and perky and fine. But if I get to bed late I'm dragging my butt for hours. I think my ideal bedtime would be 10:30 and then I'd get up 6:30 but too often I don't get to bed until 11:30 and then I can't hardly get out of bed at 7 or 7:30. By then the kids are rolling out of bed and (now) the puppy is up and I feel like I've started the day on the wrong foot.

A lot of it depends on what time the kids get to bed and how much "adult time" I get in the evening. If we're fighting to get them to bed at 10, then I stay up too late in order to have some "me-time."

Mike, on the other hand needs a lot less sleep--maybe conditioned that way from his residency. He usually goes to bed around 11:30 or 12 and gets up at 5 every day. If he gets 7 hours of sleep or more, he's a slug and drags all day.

KT needs very little sleep--has since birth. She tries to "sleep in" by just laying in her bed, but that's more because she doesn't want to get up, do chores and start school. On the cruise she will close the lab most nights. Since it's such a long cruise, every few nights I may force her to go to bed earlier just to keep her on even keel.

Nick...he's ALWAYS slept well. He's the boy who will ask to go to bed even if we're having a party here. He is the reason we took my parents on a cruise last year because he'd crash at 9:30 and we were "trapped" in the room when all the grown up stuff started. :)

Oh my, that turned out to be long....

Oh, btw guys....there was absolutely NO significance to post 10,383. I was just being a

:)

Once again proving that Stacey and I are the shyest ones on the thread.

Oh and OM- thanks for doing that first top to get us all started!

 Evening all,off for an early start to our birthday weekend. Meeting our friends at the Wild Animal Park for a morning walk and if all goes well the girls will pass out until we arrive at Disneyland. DD5 won't know what hit her. She thinks the Animal Park is her present. Feeding the giraffes is one of her favorite things to do.
Was still unable to register for any excursions. Do you have to be a seasoned cruiser to register early ?
I hope you all have a safe weekend. Florida folks stay safe. I'm creating a private label wine for the cruise. Anyone interested?
