20040131 ~ Cruising Jan 31 2004 Western Who's with us?

Just LOOK at our little group, how cool is this??

I can't believe that out of all these people there are no little boys Tyler's age...I'm sure he'll find one on board, he's just jealous that Kelsey got to talk to two of our co-cruisers already. *grin*

I totally understand fear of animals, bees are my biggest phobia (one reason for cruises, there are no bees at sea) but stingrays have no bones, no teeth, and don't sting unless you step on them:teeth: That said, I would have a hard time with them if I wasn't so facinated! The most interesting thing I encountered my first time at Stingray City was how something can be agressive trying to get the food from our hands when they have no hard body parts to push at you with! Interesting feeling::yes:: I have to remember to put fish juice on me to get that stingray hickie someone was talking about months ago. that could be really cool:hyper: I can see myself explaining that one to my boss, "The stingray made that mark, honest" He would laugh himself silly, at least it's not my mom:o I doubt she'd believe me any more...
I'm going to do the morning one, so when I do my ressies later today I'll just tell them I'm with the Disney group. If any of you are doing it, you can tell Capt. Marvin's the same thing and we will be together! Don't forget to take an underwater camera or two!!! ta ta,:wave2: Renae:wave2:

*grin* I know it's silly...I can handle some things fine and other things just make me want to dance around in a circle flapping my arms like a chicken yelling "eww eww eww!!" - and most sea creatures do that for me....but you'd have laughed your butt off the other day at me when I went to take care of my son's hermit crabs...here...I'll cut and paste what I wrote on one of my other boards, to make you all smile -

The continuing adventures of Seashell and Typhoon

My son has 2 hermit crabs. Typhoon and Seashell. Typhoon is actually Typhoon 2, because Typhoon 1 died pretty much within a day or two of us bringing him home. His little legless body and shell are in a cup in the garage, waiting for spring thaw so he can be buried. Apparently when hermit crabs stress out, they lose their legs.

...

Thank god I'm not a hermit crab, or I'd have a real problem getting around apparently.

Well anyhow, we got 2 more. NO, we got 3 more...one was my daughter's, and THAT ONE'S legs fell off and he died.

In the foodbowl.

Joy.

So anyhow, back to Typhoon and Seashell - did you know that hermit crabs like to climb and play? Well Seashell's favorite game is to climb to the top of the little habitat and cling to the roof, without my being aware of it.

So I take off the top to feed them and to spritz them (they need spritzing...it's like an artificial rain forest...I feel like God...it helps...my therapist says this is good...well not really, but EVERYONE needs to feel like God, right?...*ahem* ) and I don't see Seashell...then I touch him...and drop the top and scream like a little girl and my children giggle their butts off...

...

SO anyhow...Typhoon likes to climb the wire wall on the back of the habitat, and cling there. Upside down. Apparently he likes all his little crabbie blood rushing to those bulbous eyes that pass as his head, I don't know. So Typhoon has a new trick. He likes to climb to the top and then go BEHIND the wire mesh so that if he falls he'll be trapped like the little crabbie he is between the mesh and the wall.

So I poked him until he let go - you have to poke, or you will yank the little leggies off, and then we all know what happens...

*insert appropriate funereal type music here*

Then I picked him up and put him on his nifty keen glow in the dark sand...and spritzed (see above: re: god complex) and closed it up...oh...AFTER I used scotch tape to make the wire mesh stick to the wall better to avoid the trap o'death I mentioned before.

So the freshly spritzed crabbies are all happy and start frolicking...and what does Typhoon do? Besides try to climb on top of his brother/sister/fellow crabbie? (Do NOT ask how to tell if it's a girl or a boy...I'm still recovering from THAT one) He climbs the stupid mesh wall and tries to pull the scotch tape off!

I kid you not!

The crabbie has a death wish and/or wants to imitate Houdini apparently!

...

That's it. I'm done crab sitting for today. I need a beer, and Typhoon needs to figure out some crabbie physics...*sigh*

Of course this means that we'll be doing a seashell hunt on the beaches for future crabbie homes!! Any and all donations appreciated! *grin*

Dean,
Great job on that list! It's amazing how our little group has grown! On our last cruise in Oct. we had about the same number of dis'ers, and people were asking us what our lime green name tags meant and how to join a group like that. It was so much fun getting to meet all the people we had talked to for months online. We are going to have more fun than anyone because we already have friends onboard. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:
Have a fun day and don't forget to pack loads of film, this group will need a lot, I think::yes:: ttfn, Renae

Great job on THE LIST , DEAN!!!

I'm going to the Hat Guy's place tomorrow morning to see how things are going there and to see if they have an idea when the hats will be done. If they get done next week, I'll try to ship them out to those of you who want them early.

Oh. I'm bringing LOTS of film and my camcorder! MANY photo oppotunities, I'm thinking!

HADD!!! :wave2: :teeth:

Everybody must be at Karyn's helping to pack and getting ready for the sale. It's slowed down here quite a bit today in comparison.
Guess I'll grab my toque, put my feet up on the desk and grab a quick 40.... 'er ..... study my profit and loss statments.

Not just this thread, but the whole cruise board in general...how frustrating to have time to read and nothing new to peruse!! *sigh*

Any exciting plans this weekend? I'm going to try on formal dresses and practice putting on airs! ::yes::

I just spoke to Shirley at Perfect Gift about a surprise basket for Cheri and Matt. What a nice lady!! She's just the right person to talk to while listening to Eric Clapton and "Change the World" in the background.
musik09.gif
She's going to think about what she can do to tie in the cruise with Cheri's birthday on cruise day and Matt's graduation and his job as newspaper photographer here in town and call me next week with ideas. Yep, we're getting close!! ::yes::

Dean

We have quite a few birthdays in our little group on this cruise, huh! DS will be 10 as of the 28th, so we have a surprise cake coming for him the first night out, which he won't expect at ALL...and my birthday is the 6th, our last night out...we'll be doing lots of birthday toasts, huh!

:scratchin

Mine is the week before. TA wanted us both to celebrate on board so they ordered b'day cakes for both of us.
fest43.gif
We'll all keep the bakers busy for the week.

I'm still celebrating my 50th from September!!! I'll drink to that!!!

I only drink on two ocassions, when I'm by myself and when I'm with someone.

Does this cruise ship dock downtown?
Does this cruise ship generate it's own electricity?

Sounds like "If you think Nsync is where your dirty dishes go, you might be a redneck."

Oh, I'm sorry! we're not supposed to mention the "R" word, are we? ;)

Hey! I like N'Sync!!

...

who said that!

Gary, you can celebrate your UNbirthday...so can everyone else isn't an official Aquarius - we'll never run out of reasons to toast each other that way!

Gary, don't get me started on the "R". Just listened to some of Jeff's stuff about the Hawaii trip with his family. Like, he can always recognize his family's carry-ons at the airport. They are the ones that say "Piggly Wiggly" on the sides. That guy cracks me up.

Dean, if you've never seen "The Blue Collar Comedy Tour", go out and rent that bad boy right now!!! It's one of the funniest shows I've ever seen. Gail and I watched it on Comedy Central over the holidays and laughed our butts off. Larry the Cable Guy, Jeff Foxworthy and two other guys that are just great. The one comedian does the "Here's your sign" routine.

I'll see if I can find it this weekend. But, in a town of only 700, movies aren't too easily found. Another big adjustment in coming here from Dallas, Texas!

Have a great weekend, yawl!

I've got my docs in my hand! They snuck into the house.

Judi went to run some errands and get her hair cut at friend Jeannies. She came back with the docs. How? It turns out that our TA and fellow cruisemate, Kathy, had the next hair appointment with Jeannie, and had brought our docs, as well as John and Jeannies. Judi and Jeannie have known they were coming this way for two days, but didn't tell me. All this time I've been oogling UPS trucks going by.

Dean - list update - we're now in Stateroom 6074. Great job on the list. Thanks very much.

? Do the movies on the tv come in by satellite or cable?

Well, the sun is over the yard arm somewhere, so I think I'll have a drink and study the docs package. It's 11 F outside, too cold to do much else. I'm out of the little umbrella's so will have to drink without.

Today's thread discussion has included talk about PJs.

This is an excerpt from today's Wall Street Journal:

Nightlife, With Nighties

Pajama Parties Catch On
With Women, Retailers;
Snoring at the Sleepover
By LAUREN LIPTON
Staff Reporter of THE WALL STREET JOURNAL

It was a birthday sleepover with all the classic pajama-party touches, from sinful snacks like ice cream to guests doing each others' nails and giggling late into the night. Nobody worried about homework, though, since the birthday girl was turning 40 and all the guests were grown-ups. "It was a little odd," says Deborah Gavett, one of the guests. "But we definitely bonded."

These days, some grown-ups are staying in and asking their friends over to gab, and even sleep over, in updated versions of the childhood pajama party. Partly it's a case of people looking for a new party theme, with pajama get-togethers adding a retro touch. But marketers sense opportunity too, with sleepwear makers, cosmetics companies and event planners catering to PJ parties for the over-18 crowd.

A PJ party would be in style.

Hey, Cap - I got some good news and I got some bad news.

The good news is you got your documents :bounce: Sorry, I have to ask you to move out of the kiosk line, nothing personal.
sport25.gif

The bad news is Gary sleeps in the buff but still wants to come to the pj party. Got the list all updated for next time.

To ALL my shipmates i know we haven't sailed yet, but it would be nice to know if anybody books on this cruise for next year that if possible to coordinate the bookings for same cruise week, as many of us that might consider booking again. just looking down the road after we meet and cruise together it will be cool to continue threads with fine folks that we will want to continue sharing online.. just a thought. pirate: Arrrrgggghhhhh Eh!
