We are going to DL in two weeks :cheer2: and I noticed that DD (just turning 2) is 35" and tall enough to ride the Matterhorn... She is a real daredevil, so I think she'd enjoy it... Just curious whether anyone else has taken their 2 year old on it and how it went...

The worst part of the Matterhorn for small kids is that the ride is very dark. It also has the abominable snowman, which might be scary for some. The "roller coaster", itself, is rarely the problem. My daughter hated the Matterhorn because it was too dark, too often. Try taking your daughter on some of the dark rides in Fantasyland, like Mr. Toad or Snow White. If she doesn't like those, chances are she won't like Matterhorn. But if she's just turning 2, she may still be young enough to not be really scared, anyway.

My oldest DS was 2 & a half the first time he rode it. He loved it, it's still one of his favorite rides. I remember holding him tight for dear life and as the ride stop he looked back at me and said "don't be scared mommy, it's ok". :goodvibes

I agree with both parts. Don't jump on the Matterhorn work her way upto it.

Also fears develop so she may be in the sweet spot but get worse.

I thought the Matterhorn had an age requirement as well as a height requirement. I could've sworn that I read somewhere you had to be at least 3 to ride it. However, I don't see it on the Disneyland website, so maybe I'm delusional...:confused3

The height limit might change once the new bobsled cars are installed.

Watch the end of the ride. It is sometime jerky when you are waiting for your turn to get off (as they move units up). My now 8-year-old liked the ride when she was 4 or so - but somehow face-planted in the seat into front of ours (Still buckled in). She has refused to ride ever since. She was not hurt - but you don't get that kids mad... and the ending to that ride really upset her.

Remember, too, that there's a smoother side and a jerkier side. The ride entrance closer to fantasyland is smoother and the side closer to Nemo ride is jerkier. I wonder if you guys got on the wrong side.

My two and a half year old went on the Matterhorn and loved it but only after watching her bigger brother do it first.

She didn't like how jerky it was but wasn't afraid of it.

It's a great fast ride for a 2yr old -- at least until they start using the new bobsleds -- because you can brace yourself and hold the little one tight so she doesn't bump around so much. We taught DD to growl at the "snow monster" and she's never been scared of it; each kid is different though.

DH just took our DS on this last week (I'm pregnant and unable to ride). DS liked the ride (he's not even 2 1/2, and just makes the height requirement). DH said his only concern was the jerkiness of the ride and we did the Fantasyland side. Just make sure you hold on tight.

My 2 yr old son didn't like that the lift hill is totally in the dark. He also thought it was a bit jerky. We were on the Fantasyland side (supposedly the smoother of the two).
