Hello, I'm Mary Miller and I'm the mother and four kids, Amanda who is 2, Justin who is 9, Jason who is 13 and Josh who is 17. My user name just says mother of three because when i made my e-mail address amanda wasn't born and I need something i can remember.

My 2 year old daughter is starting to want to do everything her older brothers do. Like if the other day, in the living room, My husband, Myself, Josh, Jason, Justin, and her were all in the living room and Josh said suck it and walked out of the room and then Amanda said the same thing and walked out. Of course Josh said sorry for saying what he did around her, and I know since my boys and growing up and there is such a hugh gap between ages she learn some wroung things from them. But that doesnt mean she has to do it. And I don't know how to stop that.

I wish that I had advice for you, but don't. I'm dealing with a 2 year old currently, myself. You may have a better response on the community forum, since it's not Disney related. Where does everyone think that she would receive the most help? Good luck! :goodvibes

I think it would be a lot easier to stop the older ones from saying such things around her, than it would be to get a 2 year old to stop copying. From ages 2-4 or even beyond, kids copy almost everything they see and hear. It's how they learn. If she repeats bad things, I would tell her that it is not nice and we don't say those words, but if the older ones keep doing it, that just won't work in the long run. I think it would be easier to reason with a 17 year old than a 2 year old. And FWIW, I'm sure you don't want to hear your 17 year old saying such things anyway.

There's also a huge age gap between me and my brothers. I'm 26 and they are all in their late 30's early 40's. I'm sure she looks up to her brothers like I did to mine. If they can teach her to act respectful and kind it will go a long way to her becoming respectful and kind. Your boys can be a huge asset to you if they help you. I always felt like I had a bunch of father figures watching out for me and protecting me.

Good luck!

I agree about moving this to the Community Board.

My sons usually, are good about not saying bad words around her or any little kids for that matter, it's just sometimes, they will forget, but they are good big brothers to her, like yesterday I found Josh, my 17 year old laying down watching tv, with her laying on him sleeping, he said she wasn't feelin well since I left the morning at 9:00am for work, and was fussy till he layed with her

I think you should not allow them to speak like that in the house at all. Growing up, my mother would not allow us to speak like that (of course kids will do at at school or out of their parents presence) but if this is not tollerated at home then it will be harder for her to pick these things up. It may be hard to get the older ones out of the habbit of saying things like that in the house and in her presence but if you stay firm about it then eventually it will work. Maybe you can add a chore if they say something or make them pay $1.00 every time (or deduct a dollar out of the money they get), something simple and not too hard. They will become more conscience about what they say before they speak and that may help.

I also agree about posting this on the community boards as you will get a better responce there :goodvibes :)

I also wanted to add that i agree with the previous poster. I have a 18 month old and children learn by example. They do what they see and repeat what is said. You cant get around that.

Very sweet. I'm sure they're great brothers. I just meant that getting a two year old to stop copying is about as likely as getting a fish to stop swimming. It's just their nature. :)

Think of it this way... For every negative thing she copies I am sure there will be 2 positive things she copies. Younger ones like that tend to do things earlier like having more adult speech, I'll bet she rides a bike earlier, understands more mature concepts earlier THe list just goes on. If that is the worst your teen says you have done a great job, and as far as cursing goes even a 2 yr old can be taught what is and what isn't appropriate for her to say.

My DS2 is also copying his older brother, DS5. He wants to do everything his older brother does, including playing on the computer, riding a bicycle and swimming in the big pool. Things that we did not expose our DS5 to until he was older (ie. the video games) are difficult to keep DS2 out of if his brother is playing, so we just do the best we can. Some things we let DS5 do only when DS2 is napping or restrict that toy to his bedroom, but other things we just have to tell DS2 "No, I'm sorry, but you cannot play with that." (And just try and keep a 2yo out of his brother's bedroom...!)

You just do the best you can with the things you think are important. :)
