2-Way Radios

We are travelling with another family whose kids are younger than ours and also girls(ours are boys) so we already know in advance we will be doing the parks are different speeds as well as different interest, but will be still meeting up for suppers and special occasions. Does anyone know if we purchase a set of radios with at least a 6 mile radius, will they work or will they be a waist of money?

I find the radios to be difficult and unreliable to use in the parks. There are too many other people broadcasting as well as interference. You would be better off purchasing or renting 2 cheap phones and purchase temporary service.

We tried it once with a large group.............it lasted all of about 6 minutes before we packed them up and never took them out again......with all the people down there, and having the same idea as you, we got nothing but feedback and other people's conversations...............and we had some pretty pricey motorola's..............granted, that was almost 5 years ago, and technology could have gotten better........but to us it was a waste of time and money...............now we just use our cell phones and leave them on "vibrate".............if need them at all........

Hi,
We used the one's with the 2 mile range, the 38 codes,
and they were fine. Granted we were not far away
(ex. fatasyland to frontierland) but we did not have any
major problems. If someone is on your channel/code just
change it. It was ok for us. Good luck

We have Motorola Talkabout T6400s and they worked just fine within the same park. They are supposed to have a 5 mile range. They don't work that far apart, but they were great in the park.

We used the Disney themed 2-way radios during our stay last June. With the channels and codes we didn't have any trouble. Granted, we didn't need to use them very often. Good Luck.

If you have cell phones with free roaming, you're probably better off with those. We had 2 ways once and every time I radio'd DH about something, someone else had a comment!
