If I already hold a reservation will the online system allow me to book a second reservation when discounts come out - so I can call at my leisure about canceling the original one without hanging on the phone all morning...

Technically yes, but keep in mind that everyone that does this is tying up a room someone else may want. This creates an artificial bubble, as Disney will think more rooms are booked than really are. Only do this if absolutely necessary, otherwise just call that morning.

Thanks - I do understand. I'm just thinking about every possible scenario. I really want to have something booked for making my dining reservations at 180.
