This is our first trip traveling to Disney and staying at FW. We just bought our camper (32ft TT) last fall. We have booked a preferred sight and I have requested 1400 loop. Our daughter will almost be 3 by then and we will be using Disney Transportation, is this the best loop for us to be in?

Question 2, In the unofficial Disney guide we bought it says that vehicles are not allowed to drive around the campground, we will be needing our truck, so will we have to park it in a different spot than our camper and walk to it, or can you drive in and out of the campground as you please? Thanks for your help. :earsboy:

Hi! Welcome to the Board. This will be our first trip to Fort Wilderness also, so I am not sure about your first question. However, after researching we also decided to request the 1400 loop. You do park your vehicle at your site and can use it to go and come from the park but that is the only time you are supposed to use it they do not allow vehicles to drive from place to place in the park. I'm sure someone with more experience can answer your questions better.

The "best" loop is purely a subjective thing - for some folks the best loop is being right up near the marina/beach/Trail's End restaurant, and for others it's going to be right smack in the middle of everything like the pool, campfire, bike barn, etc.. My "best" loop is a little removed from everything because even with 3 kids, we like a little peace and quiet! :rotfl:

As for your truck: you may use it to drive from your site to other places in WDW, but you may not use it to get from your site to the Hoop-de-Doo Revue, or the pool area, etc. - anyplace within FW.

Hope this helps, and have a great trip! FW is awesome!!

**edited to agree with Lego Mom regarding loops and which ones are best**

We have been to many campgrounds over the years and often times we mark our favorite sites down so we can request them for future visits. At Fort Wilderness just about every site is nice. There are a few small sites but they will let you switch if they can. We brought bikes and like to walk so getting around wasn't a problem.

We just got back from FT. Wilderness. We stayed 13 nights.

To answer your loop request. We originally booked for 12 nights and requested the 1300 loop which is right next to the 1400 loop (the 1300 loop doesn't have cable). We wanted the 1300 loop because it was close to everything and has a playground for DD3.

We arrived at midnight on Saturday night to ask where in the area we could go. They had a site available in the 1700 loop so we took it. They told us we could move to the 1300 loop the next day. We took a bike ride through the 1300 loop and decided we liked the 1700 loop even though it's the pet loop and doesn't have the playground.

The 1600, 1700, 1800, 1900 loops are on the right side of the campground. At first we were unsure if we would like it because we had a site next to the road and could hear the buses. It wasn't a problem. In fact, the 1200 and 1300 are right in the middle of the campground. The sites are a tad smaller than the 1600 through 1900 loops.

The advantage to the 1200, 1300, and 1400 sites is that the playground, settlement, bike barn, campfire and pool are really close.

However, the downfall, in our opinion to the 1200, 1400 & 1300 loops is that you are smack in the middle of the campground so you will hear more traffic. The yellow buses run on the right side and the orange buses run on the left (through the middle of the campground).

We requested the 300 loop for Christmas only because it's a busy time of year and we wanted to walk to the marina instead of riding the buses. The sites in the 300 loop are smaller but we can live with that.

We requested the 1100 loop for next March/April because it is on the left side of the campground, the sites all seem fairly large and it's close to everything.

I think it all depends on what you will be doing.

We went to a park each day from opening til around 3pm and then left for the day. The only night we went back was for the light parade and fireworks at the MK. We basically let our daughter lead the way. We saw way too many preschool aged children having MAJOR meltdowns because they were tired. It's nice to get your money's worth but not at the expense of your child.

Just back and stayed in 1400 loop with 6yr old and 2yr old and friends with 2 boys right next door. Very close to pool, movies and campfire. Never played in the playground at all, but within walking distance. Great location for "us". We could take a 7-10 min walk and be at the marina, no problem. We did this a couple times instead of waiting for the bus. Never heard ANY traffic at all. I think it would depend on if your site is right at the entrance to the loop. Seriously, the birds woke us up anyhow. :p

You can drive your truck to the parks if you want, we just never drove anyplace.

Thanks everyone for your great advice. We had our map out yesterday and debated between the 300 loop and the 1400 loop. I think we should just keep our request at the 1400 loop, but who knows what hubby will do. Thanks again.

Couldn't agree more! Great post. If you want to be close to the front (marina etc., I really liked the 400 loop). But, like the above said, if you want to be near the FW activities like campfire program, pool, bike barn etc., then 1400 is a great loop. It is huge though as it has an inner and outer loop.

One comment on the trip with your little one. Definitely bring a stroller. Wayyy easier. Also, we go every year and this is what we do (we currently have a 19,15, 5 and 2 1/2 year old). Get up and get to a park when it opens. Ride the rides you need to before it gets too hot and crowded. Leave the park when the crowds hit and the sun is hot: around noon. Then go back to FW, have lunch, swim, nap etc. Have an early dinner and go back to the parks late afternoon/early evening for all the night activities. Way cooler temp wise and with the break at the heat of the day, you and your little one will be much happier. We have gone to this plan and haven't had a meltdown since. The trips are just more enjoyable for us this way. Have fun.

You can drive to the meadow trading post--they have a few spots for regular autos....not sure in relation to the 1400 loop...but I have driven to the post before. It is just for shopping and not so you can go to the pool or campfire program, though.
