2 questions re: POR...hope someone knows!

First, does anyone know if there are ice machines in any of the buildings? I'd like to forgo renting a fridge and use a cooler instead, if there is free ice available.

Second, my friend gave me a Dixie Landings refillable mug from their stays a few years back. Will the resort still honor this mug for the free refills, or must I buy new mugs? I was planning on buying one or two anyway.

There's plenty of free ice. We always use a cooler at whatever resort we're at.

You'll get a lot of answers on the mug question, but I'd leave it home and buy new ones. They apparently are supposed to be for only one trip, so I think using one with the wrong resort name would be stretching it a lot.

There are several ice machines through out the resort. you should have no problem with using an ice chest.

the mug question will get a lot of different answers here, some not so nice. Most posters here will say that re-using a mug from a prior trip is a no no. When I was at POR in September, there was a woman there refilling her Wilderness Lodge mug and no one said a word to her. I do not think that they police the use of the mugs that closely.

We have used both the new PO mugs and the old DL mug on later trips with no problems.

Yes, there are Ice machines all over the place. BUT, the ice bucket that is in the room is very small. This past August we went to the super-market just outside the grounds and bought a styrofoam cooler for $4.

It worked great. But I would put one of those plastic bags under it because after a few days the cooler started to leak and the rug was a bit wet.

But I strongly recommend buying one of those coolers. They worked great. We were able to put coffee cream and Pepsi in the cooler with no problem.

PS...the Pepsi and coffee cream was also bought from the grocery store.

As far as the mug goes.....as one of the posters said, you will get alot of responses (both good and bad.)

We have been to POR many times. We have used ALL mugs.
ASMu, CS, PO, DXL, and POR mugs.

NEVER a problem. Use your mug.

We were at POR September 2-9th and purchased a styrofoam cooler as well as water and other beverages at the grocery store before checking in. Using a cooler in your room is very handy and saves alot of money on beverages.

The ice question was answered. The mug question - Oh No!

We have on one occasion in the past used a prior mug from the same resort. After reading and inquiring we now buy mugs each time we go - EVEN AT THE SAME RESORT! What are we taking about - $7-$9??? Is it worth the aggravation? Look below at how many mugs have to buy and most times my kids bring a friend.

Many say it is no big deal, but I think it is them trying to convince themselves it is okay and looking for support from others. You are on vacation, you don't need the hassle and the feeling of somebody watching you.

By the way, a different mug at a different resort is completely unacceptable. I have even seen empty water bottles being filled. Does it bother me - YES! Do I say anything - No - at least until I find it is affecting my costs at the resort.
