2 questions re: availability and borrowing points for Aulani

We need to get a 2 BR and a studio, preferably Oceanside, probably the 3rd week of May 2016. Is there much chance that they will be available at the 7 month window?

I have always been so confused with borrowing points, so I just wanted to make sure that I'm doing this correctly. We have 100 point contract with a Dec use year; I have 6 points banked, and we get 100 points this Dec 2015. If the reservation is for May 2016, will we be able to use/borrow the points we will get Dec 2015, 2016, and 2017? In other words, will 2015 and 2016 be considered current points, since the reservation will be in 2016, and can I borrow 2017 points?

If I am able to do that, then we will have enough points for the studio, and then I can either rent or have points transferred in for the 2 BR.

I'll take a stab at this! I'm going on the assumption that you have no points left in this current use year (December 2014).

So for your use year for December 2015-December 2016 you have 106 points (6 banked in, 100 for the year).

Your reservation (May 2016) falls in your 2015 use year.

So that means you can only borrow from your December 2016 use year. I don't believe you can borrow two use years ahead.

In terms of availability I believe May is very popular, but if you're looking for ocean view you may be okay.

Thanks for the quick reply! I know you can't borrow two years, I am just confused as to whether it will be considered 2 years, lol! The Dec use year has always perplexed me, because the new calendar year starts immediately after; so, will the points I receive in Dec 2015 be 2015-2016 points? Meaning, I will have to borrow the points we will be getting Dec 2016? I figured it was wishful thinking that they would be considered current for a 2016 vacation.

Your December 2015 use year goes from December 1st, 2015 to November 30th, 2016. So since your reservation is May 2016, that is in your 2015 use year. You can use your 2015 points and borrow from your December 2016 use year points, but you can't borrow December 2017 as that is too far ahead.

as it says there:

Your 2015 use year points are good for stays between 12/1/2015 and 11/30/2016.
Your 2016 use year points are good for stays between 12/1/2016 and 11/30/2017.
Your 2017 use year points are good for stays between 12/1/2017 and 11/30/2018.
etc.

always start by looking at what UY the dates of your stay fall into. as keaster correctly said, a may 2016 stay falls in your dec 2015 UY.

since you are staying in your 2015 UY, you can use banked pts from your 2014 UY and borrow one year ahead from your 2016 UY.

(and don't forget that UY has nothing to do with when you can call to book.)
