2 questions about refunds after booking DP

I tried to search for this but couldn't find any specific recent info that answered my questions so here goes. I booked the Fantasmic/hollywood and vine package and had to pay upfront since we have not purchased the DP yet. I was told that once we bought DP they would refund the money to the card. It was not a hold but an upfront payment. My wife called the other day and was first told it gets refunded upon check in. She didnt think that was correct so called back later and was told it gets refunded when we actually show up to eat. So, which is correct? Also, my second question is related to Mickey's BBQ. When I booked in April, I could swear I had to pay upfront. This seems to have been confirmed by other posts on here but my wife does not think I paid as she does not remeber this. She checked with the credit card company and they had no record of a payment to Disney other than for the Fantasmic package. Am I crazy? Did they stop requiring pre payment for the BBQ recently? I am starting to think I may have read it on the boards and never actually pre paid but I am sure they asked. I am just concerned that maybe they never charged my card and don't want any problems when we arrive for dinner. Thanks all!!

The Fantasmic package is not prepaid. You should not have had to pay in full for this. All you should have done is give the credit card for a guarantee that you will cancel by the day before.

Mickey's BBQ is classified as a dinner show and does require up-front payment except by those who had a dining plan on their room reservation at the time of booking. If you already had a dining plan, you would have left the credit card guarantee only.

Since you did not have a DDP at booking, I'm guessing you've mixed up the two reservations. You should have paid in full for Mickey's BBQ but not for the Fantasmic package.

It usually takes 2 billing cycles, or around 2 months, to get a dining refund from Disney on your credit card. You do not get reimbursed at check in.
