2 Parks Same Day, 2 Separate Base Tickets No PH

AP may be a good idea - now that I read the other posts. Not only can you do that with an upgrade to your package ticket, but if there is a different deal besides the FD, you might even skip the free dining, pay $75, and get the tables in wonderland card. that way you are saving money on something else instead of the free dining, but you have the TIW card getting you a 20% discount on virtually every meal - including alcoholic beverages with no restricion on what you can order (the reason I don't do DP or FD).

UPDATE:

Just called WDW Reservations, they told me you CANNOT upgrade my MYW 10 day Ticket to an Annual Pass. Oh No!. The person I spoke with said my Dining will be void if I upgrade and I would have to choose another package request. I asked her if I can upgrade once I get to the parks she said I could not.

Maybe this is a new term and condition for the 2011 Magic Your Way Package + Free Dining.

Looks like I am going to have to buy a separate 6 day pass.

Don't be so sure! The CM's on the phone quite often have no idea what they are talking about!! I recommend not buying the extra ticket. If you get to the hotel and then find out you can't upgrade, you can buy the extra 6 day ticket then...but I really don't think that will happen. The call center CM's are famous for telling people they can't do things that they actually can do!

Cheshire figment know more about this that the telephone people!!!! Just so you know. :) they give out crappy advice over the phone.

When you call Walt Disney World, unless you really know a direct number, you will get one of two offices.

The Disney Reservations Center (DRC) includes Walt Disney Travel Company (WDTC), Central Reservations Office (CRO), Disney Dining, and some other lesser known information lines. To the best of my knowledge the DRC locations are in the International Drive area, Tampa, Houston, Salt Lake City and somewhere in North Carolina. There may be more. Some of the people working at the DRC call centers may never have been to either WDW or DL (or both).

The Main Switchboard (407-824-2222) is also where all calls to Disney Resorts go if you are dialing the phone number on the back of your reservations form. Also that is where calls go if you dial the Operator from your room, and possibly even calls to the Front Desk. The Main Switchboard people will, if asked, also identify themselves as Guest Services. They can put you through to any number on WDW.

At both DRC and MS they have access to a computer which has lots of Guest Information and it is very well organized. Actually, all CMs who have access to a terminal, or who even can access "The Hub" from off-site, have access to this Guest Services information. I will often open an extra window when I am responding to people and go into The Hub for the latest official information.

The people at DRC and MS do not deal with upgrades, partially used tickets, or problems related to tickets. They do not know all the rules. The people at DRC can sell unused tickets; the people at MS don't deal with tickets at all.

The people who work in the ticket booths at the Parks or in Guest Relations at the Parks (and this includes TTC, the Water Parks, and GRO in DTD) deal with ticket upgrades and unusual problems on a daily basis. I would not say that someone you talked to on the phone lied to you, but just they were attempting to answer a question when they really did not have an answer.

And CheshireFigment should know as he works at a park in WDW. He is the person who wrote and updates the ticket sticky that he has in his signature. He's right, a lot of the people on the Disney phone system have no idea what they are talking about, and that goes for some travel agents, too.

In American dollars, including tax:
A 10 day base ticket costs $279.03.
A 6 day base ticket costs $257.73. Total = $536.76
An AP costs $531.44.

Remember that an AP comes with hopping automatically. Additionally, the AP leads to certain discounts on tours, merchandise, hard-ticket events. It also allows you to buy the Tables in Wonderland card for $75, which gives you 20% off table service restaurants, including those that are not covered by the dining plan (like appetizers, soups, salads, and adult beverages).

The AP (which you do not need to buy before booking a room) can also lead to some pretty good room discounts, which in some cases, depending on your hotel level and number of guests, can be a better deal than free dining, even when you add paid dining back in.

Finally, in terms of upgrading to an AP, I did this two years ago with a ticket that was bought as part of a package. I had no difficulty upgrading the ticket on the KTTW card to an AP. If you are concerned, go to Guest Relations and ask for a supervisor, who should be able to assist you and not mess up your dining credits.

Annual pass also comes with discounts - at DTD stores and apaprently (as I found out 9 days into a 12 day trip) 10% for regular annual pass (without water parks etc) off merchandise in the parks which can add up to a lot of money if they are still doing it.

Not sure on prices but if the non-premium pass is the way to go unless you are doing a lot of days at the 'extras'. One water park day or DQ day doesn't pay for the extra.

Agree with the advice on buying the 10 day for the free dining and trying to upgrade it to an AP once you get there. Worst case scenario for that is you find out you can't do it and you go ahead and buy the six day ticket you were planning on anyway. Best case scenario is you get the free dining AND the AP discounts and can hop to your hearts content. Just don't buy that six day ticket BEFORE you go. Best of luck and hope it works for ya!

I did think it was really strange about the no upgrade on the phone, when she said "You can upgrade to a AP but only with other packages, but not Magic Your Way with Dining". Yeah I might wait til I get to the parks and try to upgrade and as you have said worst case I'll just have to buy the separate ticket there.

Thanks so much all for your help
:)

Good Call!
I am sure almost all of us could tell of at least one story wher we were given faulty info, and as Cheshire said, noone trying to fool us, they just lack the actual info we need (often because we are talking to someone in a dept that doesn't specialize in our question).
Give it a shot, what can it hurt? :)

We just got back from DisneyWorld last month. We upgraded our 10 Day MYW tickets that were part of our room/dining package to APs on our first day.

There have been ongoing revisions to the Resort computer system, so at first the Guest Services CM at Epcot was reluctant to do the ticket upgrade and suggested that we wait until the end of our trip just in case it messed up our KTTW card (our tickets were on our cards) or the dining plan. We said we wanted to take advantage of the AP discounts and TIW so he called our resort (BoardWalk) and after a CM there pulled up our reservation he went ahead and upgraded our tickets. The resort CM then double checked our reservation to make sure that nothing was lost. Everything went fine and we had no problems using our KTTW cards or the dining plan entitlements during our trip.

I don't know when you're going, but hopefully the computer upgrades will be complete and Guest Services CMs will have done plenty of upgrades under the new system by then. We were there in the midst of the upgrades and CMs weren't too sure what might happen.

At worst, if something goes wrong, Disney will fix it. It may take some time out of your day, but it will be taken care of.

Thanks everybody you have been a great help and there has been some fascinating information especially the about the finger scan!

I have briefly considered getting an Annual Pass upgrade from the 10 day ticket, but I have read many, many posts on DisBoards saying when there is the Free Dining Promotion attached to the keys to the world, and you have to take the 10 Day Pass off and replace with an separate Annual Pass "upgrade" things can get messy. Unless I maybe leave 1 day on there and buy a AP.

But at least I know I can do the 10 day and 6 day Pass individually this will be great!.

Thank You once again, and any more information or opinions are greatly appreciated :)

For as many 'problems' you see posted there are tons of people who do the upgrades successfully. We has a problem once when the CM threw away our old KTTW cards (it didn't hit me until we went to use them an hour or two later that I still needed them, so half my fault for not obhecting) and we still had 3 snack credits left a quick call to guest services at our resort and it was fixed. The cashier called them when we checked out was given a code to put in and we left with out snacks. If it eases your mind then just wait until you have used all of your credits to upgrade. You can also have a CM who checks your upgrade check you dining credit balance as well when they are done and print you a receipt with your credits remaining on it.
