I'd play it by ear and add the hopper if you need to.

What this means is don’t upgrade to the hopper unless you need to that afternoon. You can always upgrade at the ticket window of your second resort if you decide to go to HS after the 3pm you describe.

They are the same age as my grandchildren! Plan two days in Magic Kingdom! Skip Epcot if necessary! Magic Kingdom IS Disney World to kids that age. Plus Animal Kingdom is great too!

Trust me I am with you that it is not enough time. This trip is a miracle we even get 3 full days and 2 half days! We are just doing Disney. I will be back someday for a full week with these kids but if I waited to do that they would be so much older and it isn't as magical IMO. We will make this trip about them- no huge rushing. What they see/ride/experience will be ok and worth it. I have been there so many times but this is their first.

Unfortunately there is no EMH the 1st day we are there. Only an early morning one. I am leaning toward going to a 3 day ticket w/hopper instead of a 4 day base since they cost the same amount.

I would much rather go on the arrival day to a park and catch the tail end of a night, building excitement for the next day over stressing on the departure day that you're going to miss your bus or flight or getting caught up in Disney and actually missing your flight.

I would also do the first night MK and skip DHS all together, one day is not enough to properly enjoy MK.

If you have a child who is big enough to use a backless booster you might consider buying a Bubble Bum. It’s an inflatable booster seat that comes with a carry bag. The carry bag does take up space but it’s much easier to travel with than a regular booster seat is.

IMHO, that's the way to go. I hate rushing around on our arrival and departure day. If there is delay on arrival day, your plans can go out the window and on departure day, with packing and trying to rely on Disney transportation, it can really eat into park time. I just find it kind of stressful. You could save some time by hiring a private car service (this would buy you about 1 to 1 1/2 hours on both arrival and departure day), but that will run you about $150 extra.

IMO...You are arriving MCO at 3:30pm...It could take between 2-3 hours for you to arrive at your resort using DME (dependent on multiple variables)

More typically, it could take 60-90 minutes from gate to resort.

Start with a three day base ticket. See how the first day goes. If you don't get to a park, then you can upgrade to a three day hopper or four day base. If you do get to a park, you can upgrade to a four- or five-day base.

It's not safe. Legal, yes, but kids need a booster until they are somewhere between 10 & 12. (The Bubblebum suggestion above is a great one.)

I think switching to the three day hopper is a great plan. Alternatively, you could leave it with the four day base and see if you have time to enter a park Sunday night - if not, go to GR & switch to the three day hopper.

This seems like a really good option. Also - on your first night if you get there and your anxious to do something you could always go wander around Disney Springs for fun - and then be well rested for 3 really full park days.

Suggest dinner reservation if you go to Disney Springs on arrival night if you're eating there rather than walkup if you want sitdown. Overall it can be tiring, lots of waiting for busses, walking, and crowds coming home so it's not quite as restful you might feel esp if you're rope dropping the next day.

Just throwing this out as a possibility -- not sure if it even would work. Instead of paying an extra $60 to hop for one day you could consider buying an extra one-day ticket -- especially if one of your days will be a value day in January. So, you'd get a three-day base and a one-day non-MK value ticket. You'd set the one-day up on a separate MDX account. If you decide to hop one day, just use the one day ticket for the second park that day. If it's too much for you, you can save the one-day ticket for a later trip or upgrade it for a later trip. It doesn't expire until the end of next year and even then you keep its value. I don't think there's any prohibition on using two different tickets on the same day in two different parks, they just can't be the same multi-day ticket. You are paying an extra $39 over hopper prices, but it adds flexibility don't need to stop to upgrade, retain value if you don't use it, and I think maybe you'd even get to make a second set of fastpasses for the afternoon. Possibly not wroth $39 but just a thought.
