we currently have two 1 bedroom units on hold at SSR through RCI. What would be the chances of getting a 2 bedroom or 1 bedroom lock off at check in instead? Last year we had a 1 bedroom with a lock off and no one was in it all week. Im wondering how common that is. SSR is so hugh, I don't see it as an unreasonable request, but I figure there are many more experts here than I :)

The chances of them giving you anything different than what DVC deposited with RCI is essentially zero. It'll only happen if they don't have the room size/type to give you. For example, we had a 2 BR dedicated at VB a few yrs ago and only needed a 1 BR. I offered to take a 1 BR and let them have the 2 BR just to be considerate and they said they couldn't. We get multiple 1 BR units all the time and it's great for us but we don't have younger kids that would be in peril. You can always ask they be as close together as possible and at SSR they are very good about this if you keep any other requests simple. For example our requests are close together near Paddocks pool. If it would impact your trip negatively, you'll have to decide if the compromise is worth it (plus 2 exchange fees and two $95 resort services fees) or if you want to hold out trying to get a 2 BR unit which you likely won't. You could get the 1 BR and rent a studio privately or through CRO and would have a good chance of having them matched up if requested and the same number of nights.

Thanks! The two bedroom would be ideal bc we have a will be then 1 year old and are traveling with my mom and dad. We are normally fine with two 1 bedrooms but since our family structure has changed the two bedroom is much more ideal. We would love grandstand but will gladly take the two bedroom over location.

I think most in that situation would be happier with the two 1BR units anyway unless the mom and dad are severely limited. Two master suite's, king beds and master bath's plus more personal space. From what I've seen/heard it's not happening. What you could to is take the 2 villas and keep looking for a larger unit and retrade. It'll cost you an additional (total of 3) exchange fees but potentially get you down to two $95 extra to DVC fees. It never hurts to ask but my info says it's basically 100% no.
