2 new ships - what must features should they plan into the design?

Here is my brilliant idea that I am sure would never work logistically but I still think it would be amazing! Also, I had this idea the day before they announced the two new ships so I feel like that's a sign! So, it is a retractable swimming pool at the part of the ship that is at sea level that can extend into the ocean and use the ocean water! It would be like a colander on the sides and bottom so the water would constantly changing yet no sea life could enter the pool. Genius. Or not.

Ahh, what happens when the ship is running at 20 knots? It goes from colander to pressure washer.

I've seen you say this a bunch. Can you please explain what you mean by a restaurant feel rather than a dining room feel?

I've never been to Cabanas at night. I always thought it was a buffet. What exactly is the service there?

It is NOT a buffet at night. They mix things from the various menus and you select - supposedly there is a carving station, but I saw no indication of that when I tried to eat there (left because they picked IMHO the nastiest things on the menus to make theirs up). I guess people could order the complete thing, but it seems more like people were ordering one or two things. It felt casual like a restaurant feels. You could go every night and not sit at the same place or have the same team. I don't even know if they have teams or stay the same every night. But it did not feel as organized/regimented as the MDR.

In most MTD I have learned about it is still the dining room set-up and mentality. You order more as you would in the traditional times MDR. You CAN make reservations and CAN request the same table/area and servers. It IS a MDR with the same menu as the MDR - just not with the set times.

WOW you dont get that it was a satirical post????

Given that you aren't the author of the post (unless you have more than one account) they were referring to, how do you know the author's intent? There are people in the Disney world who do want casinos and transgender issues are becoming a hot topic, regardless of one's personal opinion. Internet posts, especially ones devoid of smileys, do not convey intent or tone well at all. The post being referred to in this case contained absolutely zero contextual clues beyond an exclamation mark, which can convey excitement.

That is why I said it wouldn't work, haha! But yea, it would have to be while in port or they would have to just float around the ocean for a bit while it's out. I'll keep living in my dream world :)

I've had the same idea but it was more along the lines of stopping in the middle of the Caribbean sea and let passengers frolic in some type of protected area

Just a few basic improvements would really kick it up a notch.
Maybe they can just make them giant hovercrafts so they can actually dock at Disney World.

Can we get on these right away?

like this?

I think a round trip to Hawaii out of Vancouver would be fantastic, perhaps combining with a stop in LA for DL- that would be my dream :)

The type of elevators that you request the floor you want from the outside panel and no buttons on the inside of the elevator.
This increases the efficiency of the elevators and keeps kids from pushing all the buttons inside the elevator.

Putting the panel outside the elevator just makes it easier for kids to push all the buttons.

Just setup the elevator to allow a second push of the button to cancel that floor call, problem solved.

Maybe I'm just a geek, but a question about books made me think about another thing I'd love to see: a library! It wouldn't have to be big, just a nice cozy nook filled with soft chairs and lots and lots of books. Maybe they could do a Beauty and the Beast theme or something. You could use your key card to check out different books for bedtime each night or just relax and read right there. Maybe they could even do a pyjama story time at night there. That way all ages could enjoy it together. While we love cruising with Disney, our family is more into books than screens and we miss having a library on board.

So... When someone says HAVE TO HAVE CASINO. And everyone knows Disney will never have them?????

So... When someone says HAVE TO HAVE CASINO. And everyone knows Disney will never have them?????

That is not what they said. They said MUST and only used caps for that one word. That is meaningless as an indicator by itself.
As I pointed out in my post, there are those who really really would love for DCL to have a casino. It's called wishful thinking, dreaming, etc...
Without a emoticon to give further meaning, it can easily be interpreted as being serious. Until that particular poster returns to explain themselves, if they choose to do so, we can only go by the plain text.

I am really excited. The Disney ship of my dreams would include some kind of Disney theme park ride/attraction. This is something that would be different than what other cruise lines could offer.

Awesome Idea - how about a lazy river with all the activities of the "Its a Small World" attraction?!!?

So, not sure if it's in any of my other posts, but I LOVE the idea that a previous poster came up with about the Fireworks show being accompanied by lasers and/or water projections. I love the fireworks show, but I think that there are ways to up the ante besides just making the show longer and having more fireworks. Maybe a small fire boat that would travel out on the water on both sides of the ship and add spurts of fire a la IllumiNations? Don't know about the safety concerns there, but they'd probably up the insurance premium a hefty chunk. :-)

I wish I could see the Rivers of Light or World of Color shows to know what they're doing there, that might give some additional ideas for things to include.

I also agree they need to add some individual characteristics to the restaurants on each ship, I like Enchanted Garden and Royal Palace and all, but my understanding is they're exactly the same between the Dream and Fantasy. I liked having Lumiere's vs Triton's on Magic/Wonder, and also like how the Animator's Palates are different between Magic/Dream class ships. Maybe a Lion King themed restaurant that serves African/Asian inspired fusion food like Boma/Jico/Sanaa?

I also like and had the idea of the library myself, a quiet place to read a book or pick up one from the collection, but wasn't sure how it'd go over. Seems like they might run out of books pretty quickly with people accidentally taking them home or leaving them places.

I also would like them to have an arboretum or solarium type space, somewhere with greenery and plants growing. Seems like that would be a peaceful place for relaxing.

Too many things, not enough space for all of them. :-)

What about more teen/tween activity based areas (rock climbing, surfing, indoor sky-diving).

Heck yes rock climbing. Sign me up. Gotta work off the TONS of food I consume while cruising, and I refuse to get on a treadmill during vacation.

I would love a restaurant that would make authentic food that represent many different countries. Not americanized foods of other countries - real food.

Oooh, what about a restaurant that gradually moved you around the world through dynamic theming -- Animator's Palate or Skyline -- with authentic dishes from multiple cultures. Mmm... Panang Curry...

Selfishly I would love an adult interactive area - I think the kids have some really cool stuff in their clubs - perhaps the adults would love some type of hang place for them vs all bars and lounges. Maybe an adult xbox tourney (madden, nba live, etc).
How about some cool classes on making at home movies with their pictures from their cruise, set to music, etc Maybe classes on how to use their iPhone (so tired of being tech support for my family). Learn to make movies, use tech, etc (Guy that owns TechTalk America would be awesome!!)

I love me a drink, but I totally agree that more adult activities would be great. We have no kids, and thus no reason to visit the kids spaces, and I find myself totally green with envy of all the cool stuff they have to play with. :tilt: I'd love to see some sort of virtual reality entertainment. Maybe spending time in the Disney movie universe.

when i was on the wonder a couple of weeks ago i took a ship tour, and afterwards hung out for a bit talking to the cast member who gave the tour, and he mentioned that he has other family members who work for DCL and one of them is working on theming/design for a second island.

I so badly want a second island to be true, just somewhere other than the Bahamas/Caribbean. Anywhere we could stop in between California and Hawaii??

I always bring a book with me to read while soaking up the sun. It would be great to not have to pack one. And fly about on that rolling ladder Belle has. :smooth:

My vote would be for one or more additional adult only restaurants -- cheaper pp fees -- like other cruise lines have. Maybe one could be Asian themed food (Mulan as the character) and one could be a steak or chop house. The best adult only restaurant we've ever done was the Tamarind (Asian) on Holland America! AND PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE -- put a library in, and maybe a game room that isn't in the main flow of traffic!

I'd love a game room. Trying to play cards at a table on the pool deck when it's windy is just a pain.

This is just a rumor I heard while on board the Wonder last week so it's probably not true but one of the CMs said he heard Shanghai Disney was going to be part of one of the new ships. He wasn't sure if it was going to be stationed to sail out of or to that region, or if they were just going to use that theme with the interior decor, but he claims that's what he heard. Even if this is not true, it got me excited thinking of the new itineraries they may add with these new ships! I can't wait for more information to be public.

This has been a big wish of many people -- that Disney would finally do cruises to Asian ports! Here's hoping!

Along the same lines of more soda machines/water fountains, it would be awesome to have a drink station in the adults only area. If you're relaxing near Satellite Falls, the walk through the somewhat chaotic deck 11 tends to ruin some of that relaxation feel :) I would think that's a simple ask but I'm no engineer.

NCL recently announced that its sending one of its largest ships to China. I think it would be really interesting if Disney decided to do the same. As an American, I hope not, but it might make sense from a business perspective...
