October 4, 2010- October 11, 2010, Yacht Club, April (me) & Lauren (my stepmom)…and later, Jeff (my brother)
Monday October 4, 2010- John drove me over to my stepmom’s house & we left immediately for the airport at 4:15am. It takes about an hour to get there, so we chatted along the way, listening to a cd of Disney songs I made for the ride. We got to the airport, checked in curbside, got through security in a matter of minutes, and had a short wait at the gate before boarding.

We saw this plane while waiting to take off:

The flight went by quickly, we picked up our luggage & rental car and were on our way to the Yacht Club! Some sights along the way:

We checked in & my stepmom asked that her credit card be put on the room for charging privileges & that they remove mine. (This will come up again later.) Our room (#2001) was ready! We began walking to our room & quickly realized that we were not going to be close to the lobby at all…in fact- we were as far away as we possibly could have been!!! We were literally closer to the Dolphin. It might have been funnier if this wasn’t the THIRD time this has happened to me!! LOL First it happened in Animal Kingdom Lodge in December 2007 and again at the Boardwalk in September 2008! This is the walk to the room:

After we settled in, we decided to run to Winn Dixie & grab some snacks & water. When we got back to Yacht Club, my stepmom decided that with all of our luggage and with a case of water & a few bags of food that we would have bell services help us out. We were wiped out from flying & hungry at that point, too. After unpacking, we decided to take a walk over to the Dolphin food court. Along the way:

After we walked back & let the stress melt away for a little while, it was time to walk the quarter mile from our room to the Yachtsman Steakhouse (yes, I am THAT much of a dork- I measured it on Google Earth) with enough time to check-in for dinner.

IMG_0197.jpg

IMG_0198.jpg

We checked in and waited…and waited…and waited…and waited. Meanwhile everyone who checked in before us, right after us, and a while after us were all seated. After about 10 minutes after our reservation time, I asked if there was a problem. Well, there was- I guess not all of the slips were printing for people to be seated. We were then seated immediately.
IMG_0199.jpg

They gave us bread with roasted garlic and butter with olive oil topped with sea salt. They must have just started topping the butter with sea salt- I have to admit that I LOVE it. I could have eaten 20 pieces of that bread with butter, sea salt, and garlic…. But I only had one.
IMG_0200.jpg

I had the House-made Gnocchi with Tomato, Feta, Pickled Lemon, Roasted Garlic, Kalamata Olives, Spinach, and Tomato Bread.

IMG_0202.jpg

My stepmom had the Yachtsman Filet Mignon 8-oz Filet, Mashed Potatoes, and Red Wine Sauce.

IMG_0201.jpg

Both were phenomenal!!! I can’t wait for John to try it in December!! After dinner, we walked back to the room- we decided walking outside was a shorter walk than walking through the building.

I'm going to try to update a little more tomorrow & at least finish day 1 by the end of the weekend. I hope everyone is having a good one!!!

April, I'm here! I can't believe how far the walk to your room was. I was tired just from looking at your pictures.

The food at Yachtsman looks so good. It's not on the dining plan is it?

:yay: I'm glad you found me!! I'm not sure if the Yachtsman is on the dining plan...but it was SOOOO good!!

Our plan was to head over to the Polynesian for a drink & then to continue on to Extra Magic Hours at the Magic Kingdom. We only made it as far as the Poly. We went in & browsed the shops. We also checked out the Wyland Gallery & store- I LOVE that. If you haven’t stopped & checked out the Wyland artwork before, you have to try to get to one of the stores on your next trip. There is one in the Polynesian & there is one at the Boardwalk. We went up to the bar & each had one drink. I lucked out because I got the LAST pineapple of the night for my Lapu Lapu!

IMG_0228.jpg

My stepmom got the Godiva chocolate martini- her favorite!!

The next day, we woke up a little early and drove over to Universal.
IMG_0248.jpg

When we got there, I noticed some of the Halloween Horror Nights were up. I forgot that they leave some of them up during the day. We were fully prepared to go right on Hollywood Rip Ride Rock-it, but it just wasn’t running. ALL DAY. That upset me a little until we rode the Mummy. I LOVE Revenge of the Mummy! That is one ride I will never skip.

We went on Men in Black & the Simpsons:

IMG_0270.jpg

then decided we needed a little snack. My stepmom had a little pepperoni pizza and water and I had a small cup of fries & a diet coke. I don’t know how her pizza was, but my fries were blah. I have never really liked the food at Universal & IOA. But…it did the trick & we were energized.

I'm going to try to get another update posted today.

The steak at the Yachtsman looks so delish. I love a good steak. We have tickets to go to either US or IOA and I have to make a decision on which to choose. As you know Dallas and I are not big roller coaster fans so I want to make it a day we can enjoy without feeling like we missed out on all the rides.

I can't wait to hear about more:thumbsup2.

April, How do you use Google Earth to map out distances? I am so not a computer person and I can't figure it out. I walk every day at lunch time and I want to see how far I am walking.

Im in! Did I make the first page? Love all the pictures.

Thanks! You made the 1st page! :)

I think there are things to do at both parks besides roller coasters...but I couldn't choose between the 2. I can tell you about each of the rides in each park if that would help you choose.

There's a little tool button at the top that looks like a ruler (if it isn't there, go to the "tools" menu & check off ruler). You can change line to "path" in the ruler dialogue box. This is for the downloaded Google Earth program, though. (It is free to download) I love that program because people can put their photos wherever they take them on the map. I have a bunch up there!

We stopped in the Tribute to Lucy, which I had always thought was just a store. That is not the case. It is FULL of memorabilia. That was a very nice surprise to walk through that exhibit.

The first ride there was the Hulk. We waited less than 5 minutes. After the ride, my stepmom said she felt dizzy. That is strange because she usually can ride that over & over without feeling weird. There was this car outside of the Hulk:

I just noticed that half of my photos from IOA are not on photobucket- I could swear that I uploaded them, but I could be wrong. I am uploading them now. Sorry for the delay!
