2* Hotel in Hershey on Hotwire HELP!!!!

The 100% reviewer recommended could be based on only 1 review.

Maggie

This is so true! I never trust reviews that are low in number. It could be the owner, owner's family, and owner's friends that are posting. When you start to get near triple digit reviews, that is less likely.

I have the same thing; I'm trying to gt to Hersheypark this weekend.

I don't mind staying in Harrisburg, but I wanted to stay on the east ide of Hersheypark, so I'm not driving past it and then have to double-back on the way home to Northeast NJ.

At this point, it may be whatever is available! I think the park is going to be quite busy!

I don't know if this is on the East side of Hershey but we just booked the Econolodge on 7930 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg. It's about 6 miles from Hershey. We just booked yesterday for a AAA rate of $81 plus tax.

I saw that! Thank you!

Has anyone stayed there? I can't find reviews anywhere?? :confused3

That's because on July 1st it changed hands. It used to be the Howard Johnson's Inn Hershey:

These reviews aren't good, but I have no way of knowing if they made any upgrades or improvements since Choice Hotels took it over. None of these reviews are more recent than Feb 2010.

Hope that helps!

ETA: In reading the reviews further it seems this hotel is located within a truck stop, and that the rooms might only have shower stalls and not bathtubs...that could be a big deal if small kids needed bathing so I wanted to be sure to mention that.

Probably too late to discuss but I always use Priceline and so far (knock on wood) I haven't gotten any lemons. When we went to Hershey over TG weekend - we got Best Western for $35 a night and it included breakfast and was between 5-10 min drive to the park.

I luv priceline.....and use it all the time when going out of town.

Good Luck!

I finally settled on Comfort Inn; I was just too leery of Econolodge or using the bidding sites.

I really wish there was a Value-Pop hotel there!

Spent a little over my budget, but what can I do? I may go back in September, so I'll know better then.

Glad to hear you didn't use a bidding/auction site! I just think they are way too risky in areas where there are old hotels and a lot of them are in the 2* range.

Which one? The one we stayed at on Jonestown Road in Harrisburg has a mid-week special right now for $103 a night if you stay 2 nights. It's 4 miles and less than 10 minutes to the park, clean, pool, and free hot breakfast.
No it was the one on Peiffer Lane. We got a suite though. I never checked the prices on the regular rooms. I do know when we checked prices...they were about the same between the 2 locations, but we needed 3 rooms (suites)
We went with the location that had the rooms we needed.

Dutch Motel Palmyra
Never stayed here before but thinking of taking the grandson before school and going to give it a try. It will be nice to stay right in Hershey Area, and not at the campground for that rate.....We stay at Econo Grantville for years.

I just saw the Orbitz special offers for Dutch Motel Palmyra $53 with taxes $58, for next week. It is only minutes from the park.

I would read the Tripadvisor reviews on this one. I just checked and it does not sound too good. I am thinking of Days Inn Grantville. Similar in price but better reviews for a simple room.

Sorry to just jump in but I am also looking for a hotelbut closer to duychwonderland for the last week of Aug. Hotwire had a 3 star for$75 had 95% costumer approval but when it shows the ammenities a pool is not one of them however all the lower star ratings do:confused3 Really need a pool for the kids, any idea which hotel discount site is better?:)

I recently stayed at the Red Roof Inn in Lancaster (Rt. 30) this spring which is less than 1 mile from the park. Not sure of summer prices, but loved the hotel. Clean rooms, had a pool (but it was closed), great free breakfast w/ gourmet coffee, make your own waffle, eggs, bacon, etc. In walking distance to 3 chain restaurants. Loved it!

Thank you for letting us know about this Econolodge! I will NOT be staying there.

I am trying to hit Hershey Park on the cheap. Checked Hotwire and I am getting a 2* hotel that includes breakfast for $65 per night. This rate includes breakfast and internet but does not list a pool or anything else in the amenitites. The site states that 100% of reviewers recommend this hotel. I checked Better Bidding and found nothing posted about the Hershey area. Most posts were for Philadelphia or Harrisburg. Can anyone PLEASE help me figure out what hotel this can possibly be. I would love to take the kids for one last outing before school starts but the 2* is making me nervous.

I wouldn't do it. There are some really rinky dink mom and pop places that are old. If all you need is a room to "flop", ok, but in season in Hershey at a decent place is going to be booked already or much higher. I would think it's too risky, but it's not something I would do. Outside of Hershey, ok, but not in Hershey. The top hotels in Hershey are very pricey this time of year.
Try Harrisburg.

I live here and I would not stay in that place unless I really had to, the Dutch Motel, that is.

May I please tell you that I just went through a near nightmare tonight with Hotwire? It was not for Hershey, Pa--but it is a lesson about what can happen with auction sites. I did my research and found that there was only one hotel that fit the description on Hotwire at 2 1/2 star and it was a brand new hotel. What did I get? A two star flea bag--really, really awful! I called Hotwire and they told me that some sites called this dump a 3* so when they averaged it, they gave it a 2*. It is literally the worst hotel I've ever seen. There was a happy outcome for me--but only because I am a long-time customer who has never complained.

Oops...I meant to say when they averaged it they gave it a 2 1/2 star--even though Tripadvisor and Hotels.com gave it a 2*.

Whoa, that's good to know. I thought that Hotwire used TripAdvisor's ratings (I don't know why, I just thought I heard/read that somewhere). So in the OP's situation I would have looked on TA for a Hershey hotel with 2 stars that had 100% approval rating and the same amenities, and if I found that I would have assumed that was the hotel. But you know what they say about asssuming!

Not to take over, but we are thinking about staying in Elizabethtown. We are going to both Hershey and Dutch Wonderland. Has anyone ever stayed at the Holiday Inn Express there? It is the only hotel in Elizabethtown, so I was thinking about doing Priceline to get it lower than $145. It doesn't have a pool, but it does have a pretty good breakfast included. Any thoughts? TIA!

I'm staying in this one tomorrow for the Pa Ren Faire. My husband has Reward points.I will let you know how it is on Monday. (Pm me on Monday)

I'm staying at the one on Mae St, Hershey. The Comfort Suites further done the road in Hummelstown has great reviews! I didn't check the one in New Cumberland tho.

Let us know! :goodvibes
