I've read some posts on using 2 gallon size ziplocs to help with packing. I'm having some trouble finding them. I did find only the 2 gallon freezer ones at Wal-Mart. Do they have just regular ones also?

I bought some for our trip last year. They were the regular ones not freezer. I got them at my local grocery store. I have two kids and I was able to pack them both an outfit in one bag. They worked great. I just tossed them on the bed and said get dressed. Everything they needed was right there. After they took the clothes out the bags could be reused for other things, like wet clothes from the parks. I also used them to carry juice boxes to the parks in the morning.

Have a great trip!

Hefty makes a 2 1/2 gallon size bag. Found them at local grocery store, Wal-Mart and Target.

I found two gallon ziplocks at my local Giant (grocery) ... the biggest size my local (No. VA) Wal*Mart and Target carry are the one gallon size.

Good Morning!

Last summer at Big Lots I bought some bags that were very heavy duty, about 2 to 2 1/2 gallon size, and had handles on the top. I packed our clothes for our drive down, 1 day's worth per bag, and then put those bags in a separate duffel type bag so that we didn't have to empty out all of our luggage when we stopped. I think the brand name was either Hefty or Ziploc, but I'm on my first cup of coffee just now, and can't really remember. Once I get the kids to school, I'll check to see if I have one around. These bags were very thick as I said before, and had labeling spaces on the front where I wrote everyone's name so we could sort them out quickly. They had a nice zipper seal on them. Now, if I can just find them!

I found one in the laundry room! They are called Ziploc Heavy Duty Big Bags, and are 2 1/4 gallon size. One side has a measuring label (for lack of a better term), so I can see they are 13 inches long right to the zipper. It looks to be close to 12 inches across. The bottom spreads out for more packing room. Sorry, but that's the best description I can give right now. Things are frantic in my house right now--cheerleader tryouts are today for my 16 y/o daughter, and we're checking for all last-minute details. Bye for now.

what great info! Thanks for going the extra mile for me. Good luck on the tryouts!!

Thanks, kjh104. I hope some of you are able to find these bags. I have only seen them at Big Lots, so that makes the hunt a little more difficult if there's not one in your area. I hope I can find another box of them myself for this trip. These bags will last through many uses, and I think they would be great, again if you could find them. I did find 2 gallon zipper bags at the grocery store here. I will probably use those to keep smaller items together. Have a nice day! (I just hope my daughter comes home with a smile on her face, but we'll see. It's varsity squad tryouts and she made it last year.)

In my area the grocery store and WalMart did not have any size larger than 1 gallon (which works fine for my 10 year old DD). I did find the 2.5 gallon size at Target this past weekend -- and those look like will work out great -- since DH is a Big and Tall type of guy so his clothes take up more space.

I could not find the 2 gallon size today at Walmart, but I did find a "new" bag from Ziploc. It is called XL and is 2 ft by 1.7 feet.
They also have a size larger XXL. They show sports equipment, sleeping bags, etc.. in them. I think these will work great.

The 2.5 gallon size I found at Target will easily handle an adult's set of clothes (t-shirt, shorts, socks, undergarments). I'm going to use the 2.5 gallon for DH and myself and the gallon size for DD age 10. :flower: :mickeybar

I have purchased travel bags from QVC that are called Pac Mate. I use them for travel and for packing away off season clothes. I got about a dozen for around $24, and they come in 4 sizes: small, medium, large and jumbo. The jumbo is about the size of a king pillow, but wider. I highly recommend these. You can get similar ones at Bed Bath & Beyond. I beleive Samsonite makes some too. They hold up VERY well and are easy to use. My clothes only become wrinkled when I pack them away for the season. When they are in there for a couple of days, they are fine.

That sounds like a good idea. I'll have to take some for atleast socks and undies.

I actually prefer the freezer bags because they are thicker... harder to rip/tear! I found mine at WalMart.

I have used the gallon size for the kids since they were small. I bought some of the 2 gallon size at Target last summer for our trip but I will need to buy some more since I have used what I had left over to store patterns. They are very handy. I would love to find the ones sweet maxine described. I'll have to check out Big Lots.

sweet maxine good luck to your daughter. My DD just made the cheerleading squad for 7th grade. It was more nervwracking for me than it was for her. The pressure of being a mom!
