First off, how much is the "additional cost" it mentions if you have more than 10 guests? Is it per person, or is it one cost to go from 10 to 18?

Second, how bad is the Disney photography? We're on a serious budget, and as much as I'd love to go with someone like Randy or the Roots, I don't know that we can afford it, on top of doing a Disney wedding already. Why does everyone go with outside vendors for photography? After seeing everyone's videos, I really wanted a professional videographer, but one of the guests in attendance does a lot of videography work, so I think to save costs, I'll have him just bring a nice handheld camera and tape. I really want good pictures, but I don't know if I can handle $2500+ on my budget.

If it makes you feel any better I've seen a lot of pictures from brides here that have gone with Disney Photography and they were not bad at all! I was really impressed and thought they were very lovely pics. The few outside photographers that some brides here use have a different style form Disney's photographers... some seem to use photoshop and/or other programs to very artfully enhance pics... so it really depends on your style. You could post a thread here asking for anyone to share their pics, or just search for the thread Titled: Magic Kingdom and Epcot photo shoots... or something like that. There are a bunch of brides who shared their pics on that one! HTH.

Happy weekend everyone! woo hoo

The only "extra cost" we had with regards to more guests was to add additional beverages. We added another bottle of champagne for the adults (around $78 including gratuity and taxes) and we did Sprite for the kids so they would have clear bubbly in their glasses (around $23 for 5 people including gratuity and taxes). You can do sparkling cider, but I believe it was more and with cake, we opted for Sprite. Each kid (teenagers) had several glasses, so it wasn't XX per glass, it was just priced per person.

The other extras we added were some floral and the MK shoot.

As far as photography, we went with Randy as he was so well talked about on this forum and we wanted the option of less expensive photos and all our proofs. I also really like his style. I am glad we went with him, however, had I been more informed ahead of time, I probably would have stayed with DPS. (I now know that in the past some brides were able to pre-purchase all their proofs and you can also purchase a CD of all your photos. If you do the MK shoot or a honeymoon shoot all proofs are on there.) I was not aware of these options at the time.

I was extremely pleased with our MK and honeymoon shoots that the DPS photographers took. So I wouldn't be worried about that. The main difference for us was having the ability to get reprints at a reasonable price (which by the way, we STILL haven't done yet !)

Hope that helps some.

Glad to hear they turned out good! I'll definatly see if I can find that thread :)

Alright, good. I was worried the extra cost would be something outrageous, and I was a little worried, because we're definatly trying to keep this on as much of a budget as possible.

Wait, the pre-purchased CD. That's of your wedding pictures? Because I thought I heard something about, like, after 3 years you can get them. Is it like the photopass CD, but for weddings? Any info on that would be greatly appreciated, because if I can get the proofs on a CD, that's the big thing making me want to go somewhere else.

The only additional cost for extra guests is, as Swmhc said, just the cost of additional bottles of Fairy Tale Cuvee or sparkling cider. If you're only doing half glasses for the toast, you can squeeze a few more outta them.

Second, how bad is the Disney photography? ... Why does everyone go with outside vendors for photography?

Disney's photography isn't bad, it's just more traditional. A lot of us want photojournalistic shots from our wedding.

The main reason many of us go outside Disney is that they don't give you the high-resolution digital versions of your pictures. Escape weddings get a CD of low-res pictures that can't be printed larger than 3x5. Escape couples can buy a CD of the digital versions from Disney, but it's $750 and the prints are still only 72dpi - not high enough for anything over an 8x10, if that.

Outside photographers give you high-res versions of all pictures to do with as you please. And (for Wishes weddings) their package prices are much cheaper than Disney's. You can't really compare with Escape weddings b/c Disney's photography is included in the price of the package.

It's $750 if you buy it right away and $350 if you wait 3 years (for Escape brides; Wishes brides pay higher prices). If you also have an MK portrait session, the pictures will be included on the disc.

Alright.

We're okay with more traditional pictures, even though I love some of the other pictures. My MOH is a photographer, so she'll be doing a lot of pictures of the before hand stuff (her hair doesn't require styling, so she'll have more free time), and between that and just pictures from our cameras, and the Disney pictures, I think we'll be set.

Alright. $750/$350 sounds a lot better to us as far as a price, and we probably wouldn't print 8x10's, let alone any bigger. Big pictures scare me. My mom has an 8x10 of my senior picture, and I'm always like "No, take it down! :headache: ". At least she didn't go with what they called "Fireplace size", which was like, 3'x4' or something insane like that. We still laugh about that now! :rotfl:

Alright, sounds like we'll stick with Disney photography for now. It's more in the budget. But if we do get some extra money in the budget, believe me, the first thing to get added will be a photographer. But, then I'd have to decide between Randy and the Roots! I :lovestruc them both!

Another FYI...I did get a "fireplace sized" picture (a 16 x 20) of one of our MK photos since it included the castle and all, we were still fairly small in it. When I spoke to th lady at DPS (would have to look up her name) about whether to go with the "reprint" or "portrait", she said to just do the reprint as it was $85 and the portrait was $165 (I think). So that wasn't a bad price for a 16 x 20, in my mind anyway. A friend of mine spends $350- $500 everytime she gets one at a local photographer enlarged.

I think if you include on your planning kit that you want some photojournalistic and some traditional you will get both as well. They want ideas and such so they know what you want. Again, I wasn't aware of this when I initially started planning either.

Hey girl! We're doing an escape on a budget as well. I've been doing some Disboard research and it seems like Paul Looper or Ty are super good Disney Photographers - I requested them specifically...although WP said she couldn't guarantee until 2 weeks before the wedding. Which is fine. :)

As per additional cost, we're maximizing (18 ppl) and it seems (like above) that the only add on is the beverage thing. hope this helps.
