Our granddaughter arrives in Orlando an hour after we do and we want to take the ME together. Should we pick up our own luggage while we wait for her to arrive? Will different arrival times (and departures) cause any difficulties?

Different arrival and departure times will not cause any problems. Just give Magical Express everyone's info. On arrival at MCO you are placed on the next available bus after you check in with DME. You are not assigned to a particular bus. On return to MCO, however, you are assigned to a bus and any changes must by made/approved by DME.

Do what you want with your luggage but I would probably pick it up myself.

I wouldn't pick up my luggage. It'll automatically be pulled on the tarmac before any luggage gets to the carousel. Let DME work as designed. Arrange a place to meet your granddaughter, then all of you go check in for DME together.

True, unless the OPs are arriving after 10pm. If one would prefer to use the extra time to get the luggage and not wait for DME to deliver it, just don't put the yellow DME tags on the bags.

My dd and I are heading to WDW in May. We arrive at MCO at 6:17pm. Her best friend arrives at 5:10pm since she lives across the country from us I would have to send her baggage tags to her. I figured that she could leave her bag untagged, and go get it while she's waiting for us...if she wants. Then we can meet her and ride the bus with her, and her bag. That will kill a little time for her.

My problem with picking up bags is schlepping them around. Yes, she's SUPPOSED to land an hour after you. By the time you get to baggage claim and get your bags, you probably only have to wait 30-40 minutes. But what if her plane is late? It could be anywhere from 5 minutes to a couple hours.

Yes, at some point you can decide to just get on DME, but until you do, you're going to be saddled with your luggage.

I say let DME pick up the checked luggage (assuming landing before 10p).

Good point. As two adults with relatively small suitcases on wheels, we usually DO get our own bags, but if it's a teenager or someone with a lot of luggage, keep in mind they will need to pick it up from baggage claim, go back upstairs, walk across the airport to the other terminal where DME is, go back downstairs and walk down the long hall to DME - all with luggage in tow.

If it were me, I would let ME take care of my bags and I would find somewhere to sit down and relax, have a drink, maybe grab a bite. One of my favorite things is not touching my luggage after we check it at our home airport, and having it show up in our room.

We had that issue one year; we asked a friend to join the three of us from work and we couldn't get her on our flight.

We amused each other while we waited for her.

:thumbsup2 that would be my exact plan, too.

When you are leaving DW, DME will assign a time based on your flight departure time. If your flight times are different enough that DME schedules you for different pick up times you will need to call DME to request that you be re-scheduled in order to travel together on the earlier bus. DME will let you arrive earlier at MCO, but they won't let the whole group take the later bus.
