2 Days Driving in the RV with 3&5 YO Tips?

We won't let the kids watch movies the whole trip, but a 2 year old and a 5 year old can make life miserable if you expect them to use 2 crayons and a piece of paper for 10 hours.

I just have to say, all this talk about entertainment for kids is a troubling sign of the times. TVs, DVD, new toys every 90 minutes... does any of this seem excessive to any one else? When I was little and we went on long trips (frequently) I could take one of my coloring books and two, and only two, crayons... my choice of color. That's it! I can't help but wonder how these over-stimulated children will fare in school. Teachers cannot put on a constant multi-media showcase to keep the kiddies from being bored. Just an observation from an older generation. Ignore at will ;)

Disney is all stimulation. whats a few more books and movies for the trip?

Snacks for DS was a tupperware bowl of peanuts, raisins and mini marshmallows, non messy items.

To keep him busy he loved an etch a sketch, the little toys with the tiny metal beads you had to put in their little holes and a picture of a guy that had metal shavings in their with him and you took the magnet pen and gave him hair and beards and such.

Anyone remember any of that stuff ?

i would head over to car-seat.org and ask where your kids should sit, from what i understand in an RV the only seats that are bolted to the floor like in you car are the drivers seat and passenger. If you are in a crash those other seats dont stay down and become a flying object, including the child. Im not sure if its all RVs that are like that or just some, but i wouldnt take a chance.

Hope you have a great trip! we are driving 18hrs down to wdw (in our car) we hope to drive mostly at night so the kids sleep.

Drive at night! FOOD! Nintendo DS (currently on sale at 25% off at Toys R Us down here!)

Just bought 2 of them this week. Paid around 170 for the system, case, and one game. But if I had bought everything seperately it would have been about 50 dollars more. DANG kids and their honor roll!!!!!!

everyone has some pretty good ideas, we don't have a MH, we travel 3 days from northern IL in a F350 crew cab towing the Montana Fiver. We try to limit driving to 350 miles a day, KOA pool is the "bait" to behave.

Over the past 6 years we had good luck with DVD's and activity books.

We plan picnic lunches at rest areas, so all can get out and run around, we take a football, wiffle ball/bat/soccer ball and let off steam for an hour.

kids usally end up eating the sammiches in the truck, but we don't have the resturant hassles.

breaks up the day nice too!

Remember, there only kids.....

You're good - I made my 2 (7 & 4) buy the console ($106 inc tax) and and I bought the game + accessory needed to get the 25% bundle discount.

We had a great math lesson counting out all the coins from their piggy banks.

Best of all, now I have something to take away for bad behavior!!

We have made two trips with an infant and key is to get your timing down so you are not stopping for bottles, gas and leg stretches(AKA rest stops) at all different times. The first day we were completely out of sink and it well, sucked, avg about 45 miles per hour. The next day was around ang 60 mph.

We have since upgraded TV and have 37 gallons of gas, which allows me to fuel when I want to stop, not when I need gas.

Also a trip we just got back from going through the mountains, having an extra towels, paper towels and trash bags for car sickness can really come in handy. The little extra space it takes it well worth it in the TV.
