We have 2 contract, OKW and BWV.
Usually use banked and borrowed for a week stay
Usually transfer to 1 contract so ressie is all 1 contract and not looking like split so we don't ever have to change rooms.

1. is having to change rooms a real worry? We have never had to move except at Aulani when we couldn't get same room type for entire week. That, I understand why.
2. can I transfer banked or borrowed points? I thought I have in the past but now questioning it.
3. does it matter which way we transfer? OKW to BW or BW to OKW.... does it matter at which we are staying or maybe if we have to borrow in 1 contract??

You know when some of us tell people to not have multiple Use Years (Memberships)…..

1) Yes, but low. Call MS and ask them to link the reservation and call the hotel 9 days out to make sure the room selector can see the request.

2) As of now, yes. In the past, no. So… subject to change.

3) The points retain their same home resort booking windows no matter which membership they are in.

I've done back-to-backs a few times---usually on an Interval or RCI exchange. If you also stop by the front desk early in your first stay, they will double check to make sure it happens. If for some reason that room is scheduled to go out of service, you might still lose, but that's unlikely.

18 years with it and haven't had an issue. Bought because it was what was available and we could afford in the moment
I’m guessing in 2008-2009 there wasn’t nearly the DVC information system available for people to fully understand what they are doing like there is today.

Also, DVC used to let people transfer between their own memberships on an unlimited basis.

But for anyone buying today… with all of the aggregators to where someone can monitor inventory and set alerts….and with the transfer once per year for ALL memberships…..it’s usually a question of when not IF owning multiple UYs will cause an issue unless their is an overwhelming reason to own more than one.

Just to clarify…you are talking about two memberships, with each contract in a different one?

I’m assuming that is true. The transfer rules were updated last year which allows you to transfer banked or borrowed points.

However, they now enforce the one transfer in or out per membership, even if you own both.

Without knowing the two UYs, I can’t say for sure it matters…but now that you can borrow transferred points, it’s less of an issue.

We have three UYs and we try not to transfer and have only a few times. We book on their own memberships and ask to link.

Have never changed rooms, even though they tell you it’s a possibility.

We just find it easier to manage this way!

As long as the two reservations are noted as a “continuing stay” (email, chat, or call MS to request that), the chance is very low. It’s to the resort’s benefit to keep you in the same room, to save on housekeeping costs.

Have used points multiple times in the past from two use years (two memberships), making part of the reservation with points from one membership and then the rest of the reservation with points from the other, and then contact MS to link the reservations. I also check in at the front desk for that trip to assure the resort knows the reservations are linked. The result is that I have always had no problem staying in one room for the entire trip. The only difference is that the credit card attached to the room-stay that I use for purchases when at WDW gets closed out and charged to my account on the day the reservations change, and then charged again for the remainder of the stay when we leave.

that is great info to know. Thank you
