I’m considering a resale contract at the Poly of 75-100 points and a 75-100 point contract at AKL direct (or maybe Riviera but likely AKL). Does it matter if the UY are the same and are there adv to them being the same?

I want to alternate years and primarily stay in studios. On the rare occasion I stay in a 1 or 2 bedroom we will go to AKL. Or risk a 7 month booking.

If they are the same UY and titled the same, they would be under one member number. You could combine the points at seven months out if you liked. But not at 11 months out. If they were different UY or titled differently, you would need to transfer points from one to the other to use them at seven months out.

Unless you personally have a specific use case and need for two different UYs, ALWAYS get the same UY. Many people have no trouble with managing two different UYs, but generally speaking the average person should most definitely get a matching.

The simplicity and ease of management with them being under the same membership number cannot be stressed enough.

Thank you. That’s valuable info. So if you buy two contracts or say one direct and one resale wouldn’t they automatically be titled differently?

Or even both direct but two locations?

The title would just refer to the owner(s) of the contract. If one contract is titled to John Q. Public and the second is titled to John and Sally Public, jointly - then the second contract could not be an add-on, but would have to be a new membership.

They’re not automatically titled the same or differently per say... it’s whatever you declare it to be. It is a deeded real estate transaction, after all. Now, with that said, you do need to have the titles be an exact match for them to fall under the same membership number.

If you buy a resale before direct, then DVD/DVC will match the title and UY by default, since you’d be purchasing an add on to your existing membership you purchased resale.

If you do the opposite and buy direct before resale, then when purchasing your resale contract it is up to you to be sure that the UYs and title matches exactly.

Yes, you can have multiple resorts under the same membership number. It’s just easier to manage, especially at the 7 month mark when youre able to use your points from for resort A and resort B and use them for resort Z.

As mentioned the title is what goes on the deed. If the deeds are all titled exactly the same and the UY is the same then DVC would place the contracts all under the same membership. The way it looks online is that 1 - you have a membership ID number. The first contract you buy will get assigned a number with a 0 extension xxxxxx.0 If you add on contracts the extension would be xxxxxx.1, xxxxxx.2 and so on. When you are booking at 11 months you will be given the option to choose points from the contract that matches the resort you are booking. At 7 months it will display all contracts and you can select which ones will be used for the reservation.

There are 2 schools of thought here and neither is wrong.
1. Get all the contracts under 1 UY. It simplifies everything. And thats true.
2. Get your UY for the time of year you will be traveling. We go twice a year, once for F&W and once for F&G. For us, the same UY wouldn't work well, so we have 2 different UY. Depending on how you travel that may or may not make sense.
