2 Castles, 2 Send out 2011 & Ring in 2012...12 Days of Christmas

If you will be traveling on Christmas/Christmas eve consider visiting a church in the area. When we are away from home on a Sunday we look up a church in the area and visit. We get good ideas to carry home of things we have seen and heard. Not to mention that, I'm sure you know, church is people not a place.

oh, I'm so sorry!!! I was so happy for you that you finally got all the flight stuff ironed out and then this goes and happens. ugh!
And then your mother-in-law wont be too happy if ya'll can't spend time with them on Christmas Eve, right?
I would almost think it would be best to take the flight they offered you that gets you into Orlando really late because doesn't that mean it leaves later on Christmas Day also? You'd be able to sleep in later and do your Christmas stuff and also Christmas Eve Mass and all that.

Actually, the flight still leaves really early...the option they gave me was a 6 hour layover on Chistmas Day in Houston. Not the way I want to spend my time.

I usually do not have a problem with visiting other churches...so why I am having a problem about Midnight mass? I did look up Catholic churches near Universal Studios and found Holy Family and then I found the Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary...which looks SO AMAZING! So I am feeling better...now to decided on a flight and book it, then figure how how to get to the Basilica if I go Christmas Eve route.

Thanks United for my lack of sleep...I have been tossing and turing trying to decide what to do and searching flight schedules and prices. I really think I will turn down United's flight change offer...I just don't want to spend Christmas Day in Houston Hobby waiting for a flight to Orlando.

I serached out routing through Denver or Dallas (stay the night the 24th in either city and fly out Christmas morning to Orlando), but in the end with hotel cost...it would end up being the same as flying out Christmas Eve directly to Orlando and staying an extra night at RPR or flying out Christmas Day (all the travel sites said Christmas Day would be cheaper...ITS NOT, since I booked in July the price has nearly doubled for Christmas Day and dropped for Christmas Eve).

So here are the options I came up with:

December 24th: Adding a day to RPR stay and figuring out how to get to mass either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day (I did find 2 Catholic Churches near RPR)

SW Flight D 11:05 am A-9:15 pm $1255+RPR night
Cont Flight D-1:20 an A-7:17 pm $1229+bags+RPR night= approx $1550

Pro: Have full day the 25th at USO/IOA...more value for our ticket
Grinch Breakfast on Christmas Day
Cheaper than 25th

Con: Figure out transportation for Mass
Miss Mass at our church
Deal with In-Laws...but that could be a pro too
Rework Reveal...

December 25th
SW Flight D 1:05 pm A 8:45 pm $1570
SW Flight D 3:40 pm A 10:45 pm $1405
Cont Flight D 12:18 pm A 7:17 pm $1734

Pro: Christmas Eve at home
Christmas morning at home/with in laws

Con: $$$
getting in late on Chrsitmas Day (EARLY wake up call next morning)
rework reveal...

As for trivia, the answer is Mrs Potts and Chip from Beauty and the Beast. Of course I had to look that one up though, it's on our movie list and I'm making note to look out for them when we watch it. Are you guys doing this movie?

Point to you...I do not have this movie night planned. I have to go back and watch that movie...apparently Disney puts a lot of little hidden hints about the next movie.

Not a lot of park connection to the movie so we will probably leave it for afterwards.

Friday's Trivia:
Upon whose shoulders does Dopey stand in order to dance with Snow White?

ugh, I see your dilemma now. I definitely would not want to do the one they offered you that has you sitting on a layover all Christmas day. Yuck. I thought maybe that flight just left late and that could be good but that's obviously not the case.

I'm just not sure what I would do. I'd almost lean towards the staying home and doing the whole Eve thing and Christmas morning with the family and then just having to get in late on Christmas day. Only because Christmas is so hectic and you have the in-laws to deal with and a really cool reveal to do, and Mass at your own church, etc etc so it's almost like just stay home and enjoy all that stuff on it's own and then kick into the vacation mode instead of mingling them all together. Does that make sense?
But then again, I can't make up my mind about a thing anyway:laughing:

Hmmm.... sitting here chewing on the flight dilemma... I think you just have to decide what is not going to make you anxious about the trip... home for Christmas Eve/Midnight Mass, and leaving Christmas Day as planned (not sure if it's cost prohibitive??) and therefore being able to 'do the family thing' - you were able to get that early morning flight out to come home giving you more time there... OR if that just all makes you sick to your stomach... then dive in and add a little extra planning by going Christmas Eve, reworking the reveal, determine where to spend midnight mass (God would most definitely understand - he knows our hearts wherever we are), and you have a legitimate reason to offer the in-laws to help them understand why it worked out this way.

I don't know if I'm any help but you know we had to rework our trip with the school schedule for Eddie and after we finally made a decision, the anxiousness passed.

I think in that case I would take the 1 oclock flight on Christmas day. Seems you could get most everything you want. Home church for midnight mass, plenty of time in the morning to do reveal and little time for in laws. Late night but, I think that is your best option to get everything done. Seems middle of the road on price too

Thanks friends for all the input. After I settled down today and thought through all the options and mapped out what a reveal would look like in each flight, I know in my heart that leaving Christmas morning is still the best plan of all. However, I am NOT spending 1/2 of Christmas day sitting in Houston Hobby (or what ever they call it now) waiting for a prop plane to take me to Penscola and then to Orlando. I went ahead and cancelled the flight...and am getting a full refund!

I found another flight...but of course the 3 flights that I am now stalking all are about $100 per ticket more than I paid originally which makes an extra $500 I was not planning on. I talked to DH tonight...and he told me to book which ever flight I wanted (he suddenly becomes a yes man when I let him take off to Mexico for a week of fishing with 2 of his cousins :rotfl:). I am wondering if I should go ahead and book at this hight price or wait until Tuesday when the next round of Kayak comes out? I probably will wait...what is 4 more days?! Eternity when you want to finalize plans...

Today officially marks...

til our trip!!! So with that being said I start my newest daily post...

100 Things I am Looking Forward to...

100. Checking into the Royal Pacific Resort...
I love this resort hotel. Something about the entry way just drew me into the whole experience of going tropical. I know the kids are going to love this place too...they are constantly talking about going to Hawaii. I loved all the orchids everywhere (and I think I must have taken pictures of all of them in the lobby). The water fountain area in the center of the first floor is so screne and tranquil. I am looking forward (and hoping for warm weather) to letting the kids swim in the pool area. I love all the gardens around the resort...

Dinner & a Movie
Pinocchio
September 9, 2011

pinocchiotitle.jpg

I have to admit that I am not a real big fan of Pinocchio. It just seems like too "dark" of a movie and too much adult "themes" for a children's movie. With that being said, the kids had a great Friday evening. The K-Quad Cousins are going to join us a couple times a month (they are going to WDW in March)...switching off between houses, the family that hosts does the meal and the other family comes up with the activity. We hosted this week...

Can you believe we are FINALLY in double digits???

I'm sorry I've missed a lot of the updates - new school year, new job... not figured out my time management yet! But I'm getting there.

I'm sitting at home watching college football, catching up on the DIS, and hoping my sinus infection leaves as quickly as it came in.

Sorry all the flights have turned your plans upside down. You are the zen master of knowing when to look for flights. You'll find it. ::yes::

Saturday's Trivia Question:
What is the full name of the alley cat in Aristocats? Who was the voice of this character...and no it was not John Wayne (although it sure sounds like him)?

Aristocats

A_1title.jpg

Did you know this was the last movie Walt Disney personally approved?

I have to admit, that I really love this movie (probably just for the song "Everybody wants to be a cat). When Ab was about 6 adored this movie; that was the year that everything was about cats, she even dressed up as a cat for Halloween. I bought her a Marie t-shirt for our trip and making a special Marie only autograph page...I sure hope we find her in Epcot. The voices are all familiar to me and I can picture the actors in real life. I had not realized all the character names were a play on words...matching their personalities in some way. How fun is that? I read that Disney had scheduled a Part 2 in 2007 but it was cancelled when Disney bought Pixar.

The boys especially enjoyed this quote:

Marie: Me first! Me first!
Toulouse the Orange Kitten: Why should you be first?
Marie: Because I'm a lady. That's why.
Toulouse the Orange Kitten: Oh, you're not a lady.
Berlioz the Kitten: You're nothing but a sister!

Abigail insisted that our cat, Carmen had to watch the movie too. Can you tell the cat is not too pleased about that idea?

The kids rolled their eyes when I pulled this out...another one of those wood craft puzzles that say for ages 6 and up when in reality even an adult has a tough time putting them together. They did it though and I am proud they stuck it out.

Making Crepes

A_makecrepe.jpg

I taught the kids how to make crepes...they had a lot of fun and want to make more! Maybe we will have to do The Hunchback of Notre Dame in the spring.

Menu:

French Dip Sandwiches (on French Bread) & Au Ju, French Fries, and of course creme de la creme de la edgar to drink

Thomas O'Malley and the voice of him is Phil Harris.
