2-br lockoff at BCV -- is it guaranteed and does "walking" hold it?

The idea behind walking a reservation is that you book a block of dates and that phantom room number assigned is then held together for those dates. If someone else comes in and wants part of your dates, the computer looks for an entire block available together. If it's not, they can agree to book and switch rooms partway through. Maybe a couple of days at the end of your block and a couple of days at the beginning of someone else's block, etc. You can then continue to add on at the end and cancel the beginning, booking 1 day at a time to get what you want at popular times.

So I know my question isn't true "walking", but based on the general idea of how the computer holds your room, is a lockoff 2-br guaranteed, or can it be switched to a dedicated if someone wants a 1-br or studio after I book?

Say I book at 7ms and I request a 2-br lockoff. At the time, there are plenty of all types of rooms. Closer to my trip date, inventory will shrink. If someone wants a studio and there are no studios left, but there is an unbooked dedicated 2-br, will they move my reservation block over to that room and give away the studio portion of my lockoff, then also freeing up a 1-br for someone else?

Once you book a lockoff you won't be switched as suggested above. It is more likely that the person wanting the studio will be "upgraded" to a better room. The most likely scenario though is the Mr. Studio doesn't get a room at BCV for those dates and has to look elsewhere.

2 bedroom lock off is a booking category.

No, DVC will not switch a confirmed reservation for a lock off to a dedicated reservation just because they later become short on 1 bedrooms or studios.

There are no absolute guarantees. BCV front desk have been known to make mistakes and/or switch things around. But it is not common and not policy.

HTH.

ah, thanks so much. I'm not yet in the system, so I can't see the booking categories yet. And I just realized I put this thread in the wrong category, so thanks for reading and responding.

Keep in mind that "walking" at seven months is less successful than "walking" at 11.

At eleven months, walking means only other owners can slip in before you - and they can only do it if they are faster on the phone when you call. The idea is to walk your reservation forward from a less busy season into a busy season. And frankly, its rare you need to do it.

At seven months out, an owner may have gotten to one room mid week before your window opens - it might be gone when you start walking.

I am shocked to see you are not in the system yet. Passed ROFR on 6/19 and not a member number yet? have you at least closed? was there a delay in your closing?

I'm going to disagree on this a bit. It's not shocking when you think about the fact that it can take two weeks to get estoppels from Disney, another few days to get the closing docs drawn up and sent to buyers/sellers, another few days (or a week) to get signed closing docs and funds back, a few days to close and then another two weeks to get into Disney's system and get points loaded? Being a month past ROFR and not yet in the system isn't all that shocking.

Slightly off topic, but what exactly is a lockoff? I'm just starting the DVC journey and don't have access to the booking categories, but I don't see this mentioned in the points charts. Is it the 2nd BR part of a 2 BR plus the studio as in a 2 BR without the master? Is this available at all the villas or just BCV? Thanks!

A two-bedroom lockoff is a villa comprised of a 1 bedroom and a studio. The 1bedroom will have a king in the master and a pullout couch in the living room. The studio will have a queen bed and a pullout couch.

A dedicated 2 bedroom would have two queens in the second bedroom instead of a queen and a pullout couch.

I have to add that I booked a lock off 2 bedroom at BCV one year and was shocked when I got to my room and it was a dedicated 2 bedroom. I was happy, so didn't question why.

My deed was recorded on 7/12 and Disney was notified on 7/16. So it's been a week now that they've had it to input. I'm guessing by the end of this week I'll have something. I haven't called. PrincessAloha passed ROFR one week ahead of me and she just got her member number on Friday, I think. So it seems on schedule with those around me.

I'll probably wait until I get something in the mail. Calling, it seems, is quite a pain and I'm not in a hurry to book.

There is one exception to this. Some of the dedicated 2BRs at BCV have one queen bed and a sofa bed rather than two queen beds. The "Dedicated 2BR with 2 queen beds" is a separate booking category so you have to book that room type to be sure you get a Dedicated 2BR with two real beds in the second bedroom.

Hi Allie,

Disney was notified on 7/12 about one of my contracts and it just showed up on my membership this morning so I would expect yours to show up soon if it hasn't already.
