I'm planning on buying DVC resale within the next year and am trying to learn as much as I can. When we book, it will be a 2 BR. Are lock offs and dedicated 2 bedroom villas different booking categories or do you just get what your get when you book a 2 BR?

Yes different booking categories.

Different categories, though some resorts don’t have dedicated 2 bedrooms...actually the only one I know has only lockoffs is boardwalk. I prefer a dedicated for the 2 queen beds in the second bedroom.

And if you ever get to aulani the dedicated 2 bedroom has a half bath off the living area as well as two full bathrooms. The lock off only has the two bathrooms.

Dedicated 2br also has 2 queen beds in the 2nd bedroom. Lock off will be a 1br and a studio so it will have a bed and a pull out sofa.

Dedicated, as far as I know do not have the kitchenette in the 2nd bedroom either, since it never gets Locked Off into a studio

Not always. OKW has both lockoffs and dedicated and all the two bedrooms have two queen beds in the second bedroom. Unless you were referencing a specific resort.

GFVs also have a two bedroom lockoff as well as dedicated. I was in one last year and although I didnt think I would lime it, I think I would book that again next time.

That is true, but I believe OKW is also the only resort that has two queen beds in a studio.

That's exactly right - I think OKW is the only WDW location with 2 queen beds in their studio rooms. The rooms there are larger and can hold them - we really appreciate the 2 beds for some of our trips! It's also why we often focus on the dedicated 2BRs at other resorts - those that have 2 beds instead of the pullouts. The beds (for me at least) tend to be way more comfortable than the pullouts.
