2 br dedicated vs lockoff-which do you choose and why?

We usually go with the 2bdr lock off for the privacy but decided to go witht the dedicated this time becasuse of the larger balcony in our savannah view AKV-K room, At AKV you get the extra bathroom in both types of rooms so I am okay with the loss of the locking door between the rooms. Soem people do it for the privacy or because they want the seperate studio with the sofa bed not an additional queen bed.

I don't think any have 2 double beds. It's either 2 queens or 1 queen and 1 double sofabed.

It depends on how you want to use them. If it's a couple in the second bedroom, they would probably like the queen and sofa. If it's 2 unrelated adults, they would probably want the 2 queen beds. If it's small children, you probably don't want the separate exit from that room.

It really depends on the families staying in the 2BR. We reserved 2BRs both ways. When we shared a 2BR with my nephew's family we decided we preferred the studio portion so we would have a couch to sit on and his family of five (three girls under 9) all could easily sleep in the living room of the 1 BR portion. Also we were early risers and they stayed up late, so having separate entrances worked well too. When desired we just closed the connecting door on our side of the villa for privacy, letting them know. And they did the same for a Do not Disturb when they slept in.

Other times we have gotten a dedicated two bedroom because having two queen beds in the 2nd bedroom was very important for the family joining us.

We haven't used a 2BR yet, but I would think It depends on who you go with. If it's my parents then the dedicated because they prefer their own beds. If it's my BIL with his two kids then the lockoff so they can have their own family area and kitchen. If it's my MIL then it's a 1BR and a studio, preferably at a different resort, in another state

Often you don't get to choose.

At BWV, they are all lockoffs - there is no dedicated, so if you want to stay at BW, you take the lockoff and live with it.

At BCV, there are very few dedicated with two queens in the second bedroom. Some small anomoly in space planning left not enough room in many of the dedicated two bedrooms for two beds - so at BCV there are dedicated two bedrooms with two queens, dedicated two bedrooms with a queen and a sofabed, and lockoffs. The dedicated with two queens tend to go fast and early, so unless you can make a reservation early, you aren't likely to have one available - again, if that is your resort choice, you often take what's left.

Other resorts with a mix have a similar problem - since its a booking category, you take what is available at the resort. Most people, given a choice of anything, tend to prefer two real beds in the second bedroom. But if you are sharing a two bedroom with another couple - or another family - or older teenagers and have younger kids on the pullout in the bedroom - having their own door and kitchenette and coffee maker can be a really nice thing since they can come and go and make coffee without disturbing the rest of the party.

We generally choose a dedicated. That gives dh and i the master, then each of our daughters (22 and 26 now!) get their own bed.

If my parents are tagging along, we get a lockoff. They are early risers and enjoy having a coffee maker in the studio portion without disturbing the two daughters who end of on the sofa bed in the living room.

A lock-off will have it's own HVAC unit and control. If the room user likes to sleep with a cooler room than others in the party, that may be a consideration.

Usually the lock-off will also have it's own balcony and it has a mini fridge and coffee pot..

Don't mean to Hijack this thread, but my question is in the same area. WE are going in April and have a 2 bdrm villa booked at VWL. I didn't notice when I booked if it was a lock off or a dedicated. We want the dedicated so our DD and her friend can have their own room and bed. How do I confirm which one I have?

With our kids younger, we chose dedicated 2-bedrooms because we felt more secure with only 1 door to the hallway. With our kids college age, we now choose lock-offs so the kids can come and go without disturbing us.

At AKV Kidani, we highly prefer the dedicated 2BR. Besides having the second queen bed rather than a pull-out couch, it has one long continuous balcony across all three rooms, avoiding the privacy wall between the studio and 1BR and giving the better viewing experience of the savanna.

I prefer dedicated 2BR for 2 reasons. One is that I travel with teens and do NOT want them to have an access out that I wouldn't hear them using and the other is that some of the dedicated 2BRs have 2 beds instead of a bed and sleeper. My twin DDs like to each have their own real bed.

Instead, a dedicated 2BR is simply referred to as a "2 bedroom" and the lock-off is referred to as a "2 bedroom lock-off." That same categorization carries over to your exisitng reservations page on the DVC site, and to the room reservation section of your MDE site. If "lock-off" is not mentioned on those you have a dedicated.

OKW has two queen beds in both the lockoff and the dedicated. No sleeper sofa in the studio.

We've had two bedroom villas four times. Three times we had dedicated and once was a lockoff. We got the lockoff because we arrived a few days before our friends and were in a one bedroom. We asked to stay in the same one bedroom and open up the connected studio for our friends when they arrived. And it worked out.

Dedicated to me is more inclusive. A lock-off, you can be more separated, and close the adjoining door if you want. If I was travelling with another family and not my own, I would want a lock off. If it was me, my kids and sister, I would want a dedicated probably.

We are staying in a VGF dedicated 2-bedroom next May, and chose that because of the lack of storage space in the studio of a VGF lock-off.

Our son and his wife will now have plenty of storage and since no one is sleeping in the living area, there is no need for the kitchenette in the studio.
