I haven't finished reading your wonderful trip report yet, but wanted to stop by and say  from another Richmonder. You're doing a great job!!

Hello back to you from another Richmonder!
Thanks for your kind comments.

Your trip report is great. I thought you had to purchase the CD when you had the first photo taken. Was the CM just being extra nice or can anyone purchase the CD after you have taken your photos?
Actually, they suggest you don't buy the CD until the end of your trip. Once they burn the images on, you can still add more images as long as the seal on the cd case hasn't been broken. So you buy it at or near the end of the trip so that you won't have to add anymore pictures too it.

I think the CM was being nice to add the logos and stuff but he said that was a normal service.

Thanks for your kind comments! :wizard:

Day 9—Saturday, May 13

We had a 9am ADR for Boma—one last breakfast buffet. CM cousin was meeting us at the restaurant for breakfast too. We had one last Stitch/Mickey wake up call. Said one last hello/goodbye to our giraffe friends and got dressed. I called down to the front desk to see if we could get a later check out then 11am. They agreed to let us check out at 12n. We would like to have gotten a late afternoon check out but the extra hour was a big help. :p

We checked in for our ADR and were seated in less then 5 minutes. CM cousin came in a few minutes later and we were off to chow down on the scrumptious food. Our waiter was not spectacular this time. He would disappear for long periods of time. Wouldn’t pick up our dirty dishes or refill our juice unless we called him over. At least we didn’t have to wait on him to serve our food so we were fine.

We were there for about an hour just chatting with my cousin and munching. My cousin lives about 10 minutes from AKL and he had offered us the use of his spare bedroom to take a nap this afternoon if we got tired. We told him we would call him for directions if we got tired, since we weren’t sure which park we would be in.

We went back to our room and finished packing. Called for a bellman to help with our mountains of luggage. Our 2 checked bags were stuffed as were our carry ons, plus we had one of the big Disney bags full of stuff. We rarely ever pack any of our souvenirs in our checked bags as it is too easy for them to disappear during luggage searches—not that I’m pointing a finger and accusing anyone of stealing. But it certainly is amazing how things disappear. :smooth:

The bellman was at our door in less then 10 minutes. In the meantime, I’m snapping pictures of our hotel room with luggage all over it and unmade beds. I realized I had forgotten to take any pictures of it when we arrived. Better late then never, right!

We head down to the lobby and DH runs off to get the car and drive back up to the front doors. We load up the car and decide to head to MGM for some last thrill rides. We didn’t get there until 1230p or so. DH rode RnRC while I chatted with a friendly CM that was working the FP line. He was very nice and we talked about the damage to his home from the many hurricanes last year and how he ended up moving to Florida.

We got FPs for ToT and rode that a few more times. When we first got there, I went to the Tip board and was able to make an ADR for Sci-Fi. You may remember in my last thread, we missed our ADR at Sci-Fi on Friday and DH was quite upset. I was able to get us an ADR for 130p so DH was very happy today. :Pinkbounc

Sci-Fi isn’t one of my favorite places to eat but it is fun and has a great atmosphere. We got an appetizer order of onion rings which were just ok. We both had burgers and split the warm apple and pecan crisp. Everything was fine but just not great. I took a bunch more pictures of the inside and then we headed back out into the heat. I had my tennis shoes on again today, knowing I could go back out to the car and change into flip-flops if I needed to.

We walked around MGM some more. Rode a few more rides. Had to see the Great Movie ride 1 more time. I have ridden this ride probably 20 times and this particular time, the show was completely different then I’ve ever seen before. After the ride was over, I mentioned to DH that they had changed the ride. He said they hadn’t. He swears he had seen that version before. He’s never ridden this ride without me so one of us is imagining things or the other of us is getting old and losing her mind. It couldn’t be the latter! :lmao:

About 430p we were really starting to drag. We had a 6:10pm ADR at Les Chefs but didn’t feel we could keep going until then. So we called my cousin and he gave us directions to get to his apartment from MGM. He headed back out to our car and over to his apartment. He was going to be at the pool, his GF was already napping and he said he would just leave the front door open. For us to go right in. What a trusting soul he is. We never leave our doors open but we live in the city too.

We find our way with no trouble and head up to his apartment. We both head for the spare bedroom and crash. We were exhausted for some reason. I guess the week was catching up to us.

I woke up about 530p and heard the TV in the living room. My cousin was watching The Pelican Brief—a movie I love—and sat with him to watch it. DH and GF were still sleeping so cousin and I got to talk for awhile. It was nice to reconnect. He was a big help to me when I was going through my divorce in 1995/1996 and we used to spend a lot of time together. He moved to Florida for his job with Disney in 1998, the year I remarried and we haven’t seen a lot of each other since his move. So this was very nice and meant a lot to me.

Finally DH and GF both woke up and we decided to go to dinner with them but off site. We ended up at Mimi’s. I have no idea where it was as cousin drove. It had an expansive menu but none of it was done really well. Again, nothing was bad, just not great.

We rode back to cousin’s apartment and picked up our car. Said our goodbyes and headed over to the airport. First we had to find the Hyatt in the airport. Please keep in mind; we have been known to drive around the Orlando airport in circles trying to find the right lane to get to the rental car drop off. This has happened more then once and never fails to amaze us that we’ve done it again and always cracks us up. :confused3

I think it took 2 laps around the airport before we finally found the exit to the Hyatt. We double parked our car, unloaded the luggage and checked in. We came back down to the car and then had to find our way over to the Hertz off airport location. Here we go around the airport a few more times. Finally, we saw the big yellow Hertz bus and were able to follow that to their location. Yay! It’s about 11pm and there isn’t anyone at the drop off location. We’re told by a very nice bus driver to either drop the keys and contract in the drop box, or if we want a receipt to go over to the pick up office and wait in line there. We can see about 20 people waiting in line there so we just note our mileage and gas levels and drop everything in the box. The nice bus driver waits for us and then gives us a ride back to the airport.

But Mr. bus driver doesn’t take us back to the front entrance of the hotel. He takes us to one of the airport terminals. The airport is very deserted at this time of night. It’s closing in on midnight. So we ask him how to get to the hotel. He tells us to go inside, turn here, turn there, blah, blah, blah. We were actually able to follow his directions and found the glass elevator up to our room. :woohoo:

Our flight on Sunday morning was leaving Orlando at 6:00am. Whose bright idea was that!! So I left a wakeup call for 330am as we wanted to check in by 430am to try and upgrade our return flights to business class. Hopefully we’ll be able to sleep on the flight tomorrow.

Next up—Goodbye Orlando and some final thoughts.

Day 10—Sunday, May 14—Mother’s Day

We are peacefully sleeping at the Hyatt Regency in the Orlando airport when our wake up call comes at 330am. What, no Stitch or Mickey! What’s wrong with you people? Oh yeah, we’re not at Disney World any longer. Sigh. :sad2:

I jump up, grab a quick shower using the complimentary toiletries in the bathroom. Then get DH up to grab a quick shower. We throw things back into our carry-ons and wait for the bellman to come get our luggage. We had called down to the bell desk the night before to confirm this as they must have limited bellman at 4:15am. I can’t image why. :confused3

We normally schlep our own luggage on every trip we take, but DH has been having a lot of back trouble and we didn’t want that to flare up due to him lifting and carrying heavy suitcases. So the bellmen got lots of tip money from us this trip! :thumbsup2

The bellman shows up promptly at 4:15am and we take the elevator to the airport lobby. We assumed the bellman would dump our luggage on us at this point, but he didn’t. He walked all the way to the Airtran counter with us and waited with us until we were able to check in. There were maybe 20 people in line in front of us. I think we were checked in in less then 20 minutes. Things were much calmer then they had been in Atlanta back on 5/6. We were able to upgrade both of us to business class! Yay! We tipped the bellman well and headed over to a Starbucks in the airport lobby that was thankfully already open. We both got something to eat and hot chocolates and headed for the tram to our terminal. No problems going through security. I had on my flip-flops today as my feet normally swell a little on flights anyway. My feet still weren’t back to normal and in fact looked quite abnormal to me. I didn’t take off my flip-flops this time and security left me alone.

Our flight boarded and took off on time. We slept most of the way home on the planes, but we were very happy to be in business class. Much roomier and more comfortable then coach. No delays or problems changing planes in Atlanta and we were back in Richmond by about 10:30am.

I'm normally very sad when we leave Disney and tend to shed a few tears. But we already have our next trip booked for September. So this time when I left, I knew I would be back soon. It certainly made it much easier to leave.

I know I haven’t mentioned the Blue Binder much in the last few threads. As I mentioned, it was extremely helpful during our misadventures getting to Orlando, but we also used it every day while at Disney. Every night I would check through Tour Guide Mikes suggestions on what park to go to the next day. I would check in the afternoon for suggestions on where best to watch Wishes or Spectro, etc.

Another thing I have done for the last few trips is to use a mailing labels page in Word and in each block or label I type in the info for an ADR; restaurant, date, day of the week and time. I then print these on heavy card stock and cut them up into coupons. Each day while we’re in Disney, before we leave the room , I pull out the coupons for all our ADRs that day and put them in a ziplock baggie in my fanny pack. Then if a CM can’t find our ADR I have all the info with me. By putting the coupons in a baggie, they stay dry even if I get wet! I know, I'm just slightly anal! :goodvibes

Another thing I do is bring a small mailing label with me and put it on our photopass card as soon as we get one. We had a CM photographer get too excited once trying to take pictures of us and another family at the same time. She dropped both photopass cards and mixed them up. When we went to buy our pictures we had lost most of them as they were tied to the photocard that was given to the other family by mistake. Now if the card gets dropped we know which one is ours. :sunny:

I read so many trip reports where people talk about just sitting and enjoying the atmosphere in the park or at their hotel. It doesn’t feel like DH and I manage to accomplish this. I know we sit and people watch, but I come home feeling like all we did is go nonstop every day. I do get teary eyed when I see the castle and always take tons of pictures of it. Maybe when we have visited Disney another dozen times or so ( a girl can dream, can’t she!) we won’t feel so pushed to try and do everything on every trip. I doubt it though. :lmao: We love to ride rides, see the shows, parades, fireworks etc. We come home exhausted but happy. We tell ourselves on every trip that we’ll take it easy this time. But the more experienced we become, the more efficient we become and instead of sitting back and relaxing, we just find more things to do.

I thank you all for reading our trip report and hope it brought you some laughs and good memories of your own trips to Disney. We’ll be back in 65 days and can’t wait. Hopefully the foot swelling thing won’t happen this time! Ciao!

Hey Scrap4U!!

Nice report - I've enjoyed reading it and can't wait until your next one after the September trip.

I'll be really looking forward to the part about having dinner with and meeting a certain cyber friend and her Aunt for the first time.... hee-hee-hee
:teeth:

Scrap4u-

I really hated to see your vacation come to an end. Yours is the first trip report I have actually read from beginning to end......loved it!! My husband and I don't get much rest or "people watching" either......too much to see, do and eat.....even after 20+ trips.

Hope you have a wonderful trip in September. I will be watching for your trip report. It should get us properly psyched for our trip in November.

Hey Aero's Mom! Thanks for the kind remarks. I am so excited to meet my cyber friend and her aunt. Maybe she will sneak Aero onto the plane so we can meet him too!

Bornwiththeears--thanks for your kind comments. You make me feel better about not getting much rest. I agree with you--too much to see and do. I can rest at home. I just don't want to miss the atmosphere, you know. The little pieces you bring back with you to get you through until your next trip.

Have fun in November. I wish we could go in early Dec. to see the MouseHouse with Christmas decorations. But we were very lucky. The first MNSSHP is being held our last night in Disney and we were able to get tickets to it. We are so psyched to see that! Haven't decided if we're dressing up yet or not. But I know I will take a ton of pictures. Maybe I will have figured out how to upload pictures by the time I write that trip report!

We went in September of last year and are now planning a trip in May of 07. Just wondering how you thought the crowds were in May? We were totally spoiled in September with light crowds and free dining. Wanted to go back same time but are expected a new baby any day now so decided on May. Any info would be wonderful!! Thanks.

Stnet--this was our 2nd time we visited during May and we found the crowds very manageable. As long as you aren't there over Star Wars weekends. Those get very crowded. Following suggestions from Tour Guide Mike, we never waited more then 5 or 10 minutes for any ride. If there was a long wait we'd just get FPs and come back later. On a number of rides, ToT, Dinosaur to name a few, the standby line would show a 20 minute wait. We'd go to get a FP and the CM at the FP Machines would tell us the wait was less then 5 minutes and they were right.

We love going in May. The weather is normally mid 80s though for some of this trip is was low to mid 90s. But the humidity isn't normally as bad as during the summer. Just don't go too late in May.

We're headed back 9/9-9/16. We've never been in Sept. so it's good to hear that the crowds aren't too bad and we got the free dining this time. We're very excited as we've never tried the dining plan. :thumbsup2

Congrats on the baby-to-be! :goodvibes I hope all goes well and you have an easy delivery. Feel free to ask me other questions.

I just read your whole report. We were there the same time as you from the 9th -14th. We found May to be a great time to go. Just yesterday I finally ordered my pictures and I loved looking at the pretty blue sky in the background. We stayed at the Wilderness Lodge. There is a direct bus to the MK. It only takes a few minutes to get there. I wish you had seen the sign for it as it would have saved you so much travel time that one evening. Thanks for taking the time to write your reeport! I enjoyed it!

Hey Tarheel--Thank you for telling me about the bus. I just knew there had to be one. I couldn't imagine everyone at that resort having to take those boats. I guess we were just too tired or in too much of a hurry to see the sign. :rolleyes2 But this way sure made for a funny note in our trip. How many forms of Disney transpo can you take in 1 day? :moped:

Too bad we didn't run into you while we were at WL. You could have saved us so much time! Thanks for sharing the info. :Pinkbounc

We have been in May almost a dozen times. It is a great month.....not extremely hot, yet. We still take advantage of the EMH and try to get as many rides done as we can in the morning and use the fastpasses.

Hope you have a wonderful trip.

Bornwiththeears-- We love going in May too! Great way to start the summer! We have done the morning EMH before but this time found if we avoided whatever park had the morning EMH, the other parks would be mainly walk-on rides until later in the day and we could sleep later too. Bonus! But we never miss the EMH evenings. That's why we make sure to take a nap every day and another reason not to get up so early in the am. It's cooler at night, sometimes :) , and a lot of people have been in the park all day so leave the parks before it gets too late. I love EMH whether morning or night. This was the first time we avoided the mornings though and it worked out fine. :Pinkbounc

Thanks DisneyGuy77! I'm glad you enjoyed it. We're leaving for POFQ in 10 days and are very excited. I've gotten different shoes so hopefully no blisters this time! :lmao: And we're going to try and rest a little bit more in the afternoons so hopefully no meltdowns this time!

I plan to take notes this time so I don't have to try to remember everything. but after reading so many terrific reports the last few months (TwinkieMama, Mel HappyHaunt, MommyPoppins, LaLa, and numerous others) I'm not sure if I should write another report or not. I'm not in the same league as some of the wonderful writers on this board.

We'll just have to see how much Magic we have on our trip! pixiedust:

That’s fantastic. I hope you have a good time. How long will you be there? MY DFi and I will be at the POP Sep 16 through the 20th.

Yep. You will probably be checking out as we are checking in. So, if you happen to see a guy with a Pirates of the Caribbean messenger bag, I am on hold waiting to order it from Disney shopping as I write this, and a LGMH attached to it, give me a wave. By the way, how is the Pop? Have you been there before? I have stayed at the All stars music and movies, the river side several times, the French Quarter and the Animal Kingdom Lodge, but never the Pop.

We've never stayed at POP. We've stayed at the Contemporary, Boardwalk, POFQ and twice at AKL. This will be our second time at POFQ. You'll have to let us know how Pop is. :yay:
