Anyone have any thoughts on how hard it is to get a 2 bedroom villa in a resort that is not your home resort? We have never had any trouble getting a room where we want to stay, but it is usually just my husband and I in a studio. We have never booked a big room before. My family is coming with us on a trip in Jan and since we will have a 3 year old with us we are interested in Wilderness Lodge or Bay Lake so we can be close to the Magic Kingdom. However, we don't know how hard this will be. Thanks for your opinions.

What time in January? I doubt you will have any issues of you call right at 7 months unless you are trying to book around the weekend of the marathon. We love January at Disney. Low crowds and lines, and not difficult to get into any of the restaurants. Just be aware that VWL is one of the smallest DVC resorts, and BLT is still new and thus very popular at the moment.

We are going around my birthday which is Jan 28. Luckily most people don't seem to think that is an ideal time to go to the World. Like you, we have had great experiences there with short lines at that time of year. Of course, sometimes the weather is a little chilly, but that is a small price to pay for the relaxed pace and low crowds. I think I might book at our home resort SSR at 11 months and then try to trade it for something more child friendly at 7 months.

I only book 2 bedrooms and since 2000, I've never had a problem booking any resort at the 7 month mark. I have not stayed at BLT however or tried to book it, but I was successful with WLV and every other resort.

That's probably your best bet-to book your home resort and then switch if possible right at your 7 month mark. We were able to get a grand villa at Bay Lake at the 6 month mark for earlier this month. It was a last minute kind of trip for 10 of us. Have a wonderful trip!

Usually studios go before 2BRs so if you had studios before, the chance of getting a 2BR 7 months out is somewhat better. Nevertheless, time in Jan will make a difference. Jan 1 is Sunday in 2012. That means that a lot of schools will actually have that entire week off because their holiday break will start Dec 23, which means it can still be difficult (though not impossible) to get rooms at 7 months out for the first four or five nights of Jan. Same can occur for a few days around MLK weekend. Also, do not expect to get MK or standard view at BLT as those can be gone before 7 months out almost any time of year, but if going late Jan/early February your chances should be high to get lake view at BLT and fairly good to get VWL.

I agree with you on the weather/short lines trade off. No matter how chilly it is in Florida in January, it's still MUCH better than at home here in Minnesota. I don't think you will have any problems getting a 2 bedroom at 7 months for that last week of January. We were there that week this year, and we changed from a 2 bedroom to a 3 bedroom GV about 5months out! No problems with availability either.

We always stay in 2 bedrooms and have had good luck getting other resorts then our home resort (AKV). The only time we had no luck getting at some other resorts is for this December, because it seems to be a VERY popular time for DVC. We just took our first trip for January (22-26 2011) and loved the low crowds. The only downside was trying to get home since the Northeast was hit with a blizzard.

When we called at the 7-month mark to book a trip in March (2011), there were 2 bedroom villas available at BWV and BCV. Good luck and have a great trip!

We booked a 2 bedroom at the Boardwalk for Thanksgiving weekend this year. I called exactly at the 7 month mark. The higher points for the first night/weekend and the short stay probably worked in our favor. I was very happy to get it for the holiday weekend though.

Not for January but I got a BW view 2 bedroom in August so I think you should have good luck.

Our home is AK Villas and we were successful getting Vero last August 2BR 7 mos out and Wilderness lodge Villas 6 mos out this August! LOVE TRYING NEW RESORTS!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

GOOD LUCK!!!:goodvibes
