2-Bedroom vs. 1-Bedroom/Stateroom Combo

I was just looking at the plans for Deck 8. There are four 1-Bedrooms (Cat 3) which have lock-off doors to Deluxe Family Staterooms (Cat 4).

Which is cheaper...the 2-Bedroom or a 1-Bedroom/Family Stateroom combo?

The 2-Bedroom is slightly larger:

2-Bedroom - 945 sq. ft.

1-Bedroom - 614 sq. ft.
Deluxe Family Stateroom - 304 sq. ft.
Combined - 918 sq. ft.

Any pros/cons that anyone can think of? Our party will consist of 4 adults (DH and I, and my parents).

I can't help you with pricing, but I know that both options you are considering are breath-takingly expensive. But if you can afford it, definitely consider getting one of the two-bedroom units (Categories 1 and 2). These are top-of-the-line staterooms with great service. You'd have memories to last a lifetime.

First of all, the pricing will depend on what time of year you travel and remember pricing is based "per person double occupancy." So, if you book the 2-bedroom suite you'd pay 2 full adult fares plus 2 add-on fares for your 3rd and 4th guests. Now if you book two adjoining staterooms, you'd pay 4 full adult fares (2 adults per room). If you can swing it, go with the 2-bedroom suite. This is an absolutely phenomenal room!! You and dh and your parents will have your own bedrooms plus a wonderful living room area. HTH.

One thing to consider, the 2 bedroom suite has only one bedroom on the verandah side. In other words, the second bedroom is an interior room with no windows. I like to see the sea from my bed and I know if my children, mostly teens, don't see the sunlight, they will sleep forever!! We had tried to book 2 one bedroom suites for our family for this reason. Though we were more than six months out, the suites were all booked. We are now a Cat 5 GTY and I sure am hoping some suites open up.
So plan to book far in the future for a suite!!

If you are considering a category 3 and adjoining categroy 4 for you and your parents then a category 2 suite for all 4 of you will save you anywhere from $1,100 to $2,500 (depending on season) and even taking a category 1 suite will save you from $500 TO $2,000. I would definately choose the category 1 or 2 suites over the 2 adjoining suites however you will have to book far in advance if you want to get one of these suites as they are hard to come by (but WELL worth the wait).

I cracked up when I read "breath-takingly expensive". You are not kidding! Here is the price I was quoted by TA for the May 4, 2003 (4-day):

Category 3 - $4157.70
Category 4 - $2337.70
Total - $6495.40

Per day total - $1623.85 ($6495.40/4)
Per person per day total - $405.96 ($1623.85/4)

I was told this includes an early-booking discount of $1630.00.

You bring up an excellent point that I did not think of (2 separate rooms = 4 full adult fares). I agree...I would much prefer to book the 2-bedroom, but unfortunately I am not booking a Land & Sea package, and they will not allow me to book the 2-bedroom on a cruise-only reservation. We are DVC members and do not need the "Land" portion of the vacation. My only hope is that 30-days-out, a 2-bedroom will become available.

Good point about the verandahs! This could present a dilemma. If a 2-bedroom becomes available, I would want to give the bedroom w/verandah to my folks, but DH might grumble

I asked TA if they could provide a quote for the Cat 2. They estimated that the cost would be about the same or a little more for the Cat 2 vs. the Cat 3/Cat 4 combo. Also, because the Cat 2 wouldn't be available until 30 days prior to our sail date, we would have the possibility of the loss of most of the early booking savings. Full brochure rate (no early booking savings) would run approximately $7,000.00 for the Cat 2.

This is really annoying that I can't book a Cat 1 or 2 room without a Land/Sea package. I wonder why they have this restriction?
