2 ADRs, Same Time, Different Restaurants?

I was thinking about booking 2 ADRs at the same time for different restaurants toward the end of my vacation, to keep my options open. Of course, once I decided which one to go to, I would cancel the other.

Is this a good idea or a bad idea?

Bad idea, other people are actually 100% sure they want those ADRs.

Just pick a restaurant or don't make any ADRs that night.

I agree with babypiglet...I wouldn't make 2 ADR's...You will be holding a spot that others really want not to mention Disney Disning usually picks up on it and you could end up getting both ADR's cancelled on you. They have done it to others. Thanksfully they are ontop of things like this.

That's a great idea, especially since you do plan on cancelling the 2nd one as soon as you've made up your mind. It's not as though they'll leave your seat at the restaurant empty, someone will be able to get the reservation you cancelled.

When I was making my dining reservations for our last trip the CM told me I had a conflicting time on my reservations and I had to cancel one of them. Turns out the CM that I had last spoken too forgot to cancel one of our ADR's. I'm guessing their system is set up so that you aren't allowed multiple reservations within the same time period.

Bad idea. The system automatically checks for duplicates, and there have been situations where they have cancelled BOTH.

In addition, obviously making reservations you know you aren't going to keep is depriving some other family of the reservation...and that might be THE one dining experience they had been really looking forward to.

I have a related question to this - I have also read where Disney is cancelling reservations when duplicate ADR's are made for the same time. My question is - do they only do this if both ADR's are made for the entire group? On our next trip - DD and I plan to do CRT alone. I'm thinking we'll pay OOP and DH and DS will just do CS (this will probably be for lunch). Then we'll all just use our TS for a dinner ADR. But if that changes, it could be possible that DH and DS would want an ADR somewhere else at the same time. Thing is - both ADR's would show 2 people, so if someone didn't look at the rest of our ADR's (for 4), it could look like a duplicate ressie. I'm thinking with CRT it won't be a problem, b/c of the CC needed, but just for further info - how do they determine that the person has actually doubled up and not that the group is splitting up? Do they look at the previous reservations? I would think that could still be a problem if the group size changes throughout the stay. Is there a way they can note on the ADR's that the party is splitting up for that meal?

If they're different parties, don't make them under the same name. Make the second one under your husband's name.

This is a big no no..disney has been on to this for awhile now and as result..can, will and has cancelled all duplicate resssies .

Yes, be very WARY of doing this. Dis dining will cancel them both, or pick one and cancel for you. It's happened to me.

Not to mention how UNFAIR it is for all the other people truing to get ressies and you are holding on to an extra ressie. Its hard enough getting ressies you want without people doing that

i say before we all become the ethics police and beat the OP up for even *thinking* of such a treacherous act, we ask the simple question... when do you plan on deciding which restaurant you want? three months out or three hours prior to dining? 'cause imo it makes a difference...

I don't see this as a moral debate at all. OP is asking if something is okay to do -- and it's not. The most likely outcome is that both of their ADRs get cancelled.

Just because posters point out that double-booking would deprive other families of those ADRs is not a moral judgement. It's just a statement of fact.

How is it not a moral debate to determine what is right or wrong for someone else. This is not a matter of policy - as it is not stated anywhere by Disney. I have, in fact, made numerous reservations at conflicting times with nary a word otherwise from anyone at disney dining. I have also never had anything cancelled without my knowledge.

Now before the flamethrowers come out I have never stacked reservations to wait and decide while I am there. However, I have often had to settle for second, third or even lesser choices during initial rounds of reservations. When moving off the list I have discussed with my wife, I have, with the same reservations agent made two reservations at the same time. I have also called back and eventually gotten more desirable reservations and never been prompted to cancel existing reservations. And this isn't ancient history - four week long trips in the last two years and as recently as December. Now, I do cancel any extra reservations once we have what we want - but again I have never been prompted to do so and have actually had them act like it is a nuisance to go through and cancel a bunch of reservations for me.

(The following post...tone is meant to be funny, not prickly...sorry its late, I just watched the shuttle launch 2:28 am and found this thread interesting while waiting... so here goes)

Logic- ...with the popularity of the Dining Plan (increasing each of the last 3 years) there are now too many people for too few ADR's

So, yes it could be a good moral debate (for a 2nd grade class of kids) - At that age I learned it is wrong to take more than you need....if that means other people can't get what they need. (and "no" we are not talking about 24 hours while you talk to your wife, that wasn't how the original question was phrased)

But it is also a HARD RULE NOW- Disney is cracking down on this, and working on the problem. They are training their staff and working on new systems to curb the abuse.

Can you still break the system?.... YES (for the time being)
But, Disney will penalize you if they catch you. Its pretty black & white-
If you make two ADR's in the same time slot... Disney will cancel both if they catch you

Its happened plenty of times to people on disboards.

Why not make ADR's for 3 restaurants at 7:00, and then be free to eat anywhere you want? Extreme question i know, but the point is- people will take advantage if you let them. So first Disney builds the demand, and then they weed out the weasels. Disney is actively working on phase-two right now, Weasel Traps LOL

Did you not see the 'IMO' part? If you're not familiar, that meals in my opinion. So there's no need to debate with me about what I think the post says.

I see no moral debate here. He asked if it was a good idea, we're telling him it's not a good idea at all.

And frankly I see nothing to debate about anyways.
