Okay, so the Sail-Away party was going to be moved into the Atrium due to the rain. It was raining very slight, and it was off and on, but you never know when a cloud burst could happen, and they really couldn’t ask everyone to dance around on a wet deck, so I agree it was the right call to move the party inside. However, I would not be attending. I love the Sail-Away party, and decks 9 & 10 are a great venue for it, but moving all that activity into the Atrium seemed like a very tight fit, and I’m not “that much” of a people person. So while Sandy and Jennifer went to the cabin, Amanda and I decided to stay up on deck 10 (in the slight rain) to watch us sail-away. Around 5pm the captain made an announcement that 17 passengers had a flight that was delayed, but they were now on the bus and on their way to the port, he estimated we would be sailing a little after 6pm and that this would not delay our arrival in Key West the next day. So now Amanda wanted to stay on deck and watch for the bus driving over the causeway to the port and to watch the people running for the ship. I have no idea why this seemed entertaining to her, but I love being on deck so we stayed looking for the bus, and watching the other ships depart. I can’t imagine what it would be like to be on an airplane knowing you were going to get to the port three hours late. I’m sure once they arrived in Orlando the DCL CM at the airport told them the ship was waiting, and they must have felt better than I ever have when they came over the bridge and saw the ship still there, but I wouldn’t have been able to control my racing heart until I stepped foot on the ship, which they did about 5:50pm. Amanda and I applauded from deck 10 to congratulate our new fellow passengers as they walked toward the forward gangway on deck 1. Then we heard more people applauding and we looked down to see that CM’s had formed a reception lines on each side of the gangway to welcome the new arrivals on board (very classy).

While we were waiting to sail, I thought it was no big deal that we were leaving late. As a matter of fact, it would change too many of our plans if the ship stayed tied up to the dock all week. We had some planned activities at the ports-of-call, but nothing booked, and we have been to each of these ports twice before. Most of the things we wanted to do was on the ship; The food, the shows, the food, the entertainment, the food, the relaxing on deck, and of course The Food. But, as soon as the last mooring line was dropped and the ship pushed away from the dock, I was all smiles and knew what I really liked was being on a ship heading off to sea. I don’t know why, but one of my favorite things about cruising is just being on deck during port departures, arrivals, at sea, during the day and at night. I know these boards always discuss how much there is to do, and how great the service is, but I really enjoy being on a ship at sea.

Amanda and I headed back to the cabin, this time we had cabin 2510. This is an outside cabin on deck 2, starboard side; six cabins back from the front. We were actually in the bow of the ship, and our outside wall was slanted in and down toward the bow. I think we had about 24”-30” of extra length in the cabin because that’s how much room there was between the side of the desk and the outside wall. The room was forward enough that it wasn’t under Diversions, it was under the lower seats in “The Walt Disney Theater” so night time noise was never an issue. I thought the bow thrusters and anchor would be noisy, but we never heard the anchor, and we could just hear the bow thrusters enough to know that they were running, not loud, but audible, and when the bow thrusters are running, that always means its time to get up anyway.

The girls loved their Valentine Tigger and Eeyore that Sandy had placed in the room, and then the flowers arrived for Sandy that I had ordered from the Perfect Gift. At first I had ordered a dozen red roses; because that’s what you do for your wife on Valentine’s Day, but then I changed the order to ½ dozen because I thought it would be more proportional to the cabin size. The arrangement was beautiful and the size was perfect. The roses still looked bright, firm, and fresh 7 days later when we left the ship. Many thanks to Shirley and the team at The Perfect Gift.

Next we toured the ship, and met our servers...

Know just how you feel!!! There is something incredible about pulling away from dock and heading out to the great, blue, ocean!
It's as though you're leaving all your worries on the dock where they can rest until you return. It's an amazing feeling.

How sweet your family is.... gifts for your daughters and roses for your wife.....what a beautiful beginning!!!

You really have a wonderful (or should I say 'magical') way of writing your trip reports. Just wanted you to know how much I'm enjoying reading them. THANKS! :)
