Hi Wayne,
When the travel agents were offering the $2 to a £1 deal was there an minimum amount you had to get?I only want to get £500+am hanging it out to see if they may offer this again.Cheers Wayne.x.

i know the outher week M+S were giving a £10 gift voucher if you got £250 in $$$,if you shop at marks a lot(like mil:rotfl2: )good value they might offerit again

Jen,
I dont know how to post links, but have a nosey on this forum for thread that orangetiggs done this morning titled Fairfx card.Theres some views on there about it,also another thread on this forum titled pre paid charge card, for more views.(both posts are on page one)
There is a £10 cash out fee if you want your money returned once you come back home, otherwise your card lasts 3 years+then you can renew it+have any money left transfered over to your new one.If we have any money left, which i highly doubt it:rotfl: ,we are just going to keep it on there till our next trip.x.

I believe it was £500 miminum. If you are only wanting to change £500 then just do it when you see a good rate when you are passing. Its not worth a special trip anywhere to get a better rate.
Say you can get $1.94 now that will give you £970.
If it goes up to $2 you will get $1,000. $30 more or £15 better off but if you have to make a special trip to get it and cost you a few £ in petrol in wipes out any better rate.
I think its struggling to hold $2 so maybe best to buy now if going soon. Just watch it hit $2.10 now:goodvibes

Sarah, sorry if I sound to be knocking the card, I 100% agree credit cards are not for everyone and its good for other options I just want people to understand there are more fees involved than other options. As you know my preferred option is a fee free credit card but I would take the fairfx card anyday over exchanging with sites like http://www.crowncurrencyexchange.com/

Wayne - thanks for the tip off. I've just paid off the balance on my Wilderness Lodge room for December. :thumbsup2

Cheers wayne,
Yes i understand what your saying about the special trip thing,it sort of cancells out our saving.$1.9410 is the best cash amount i have seen today-that is also with Fairfx-as they also deliver money to your door the next working day,it is free of charge if over £500 otherwise £6 fee.Think i may wait a day and see what happens, like you said you watch i get it now and it will shoot thru the roof :rotfl2: knowing my luck.
We don't go till April but i would rather get it now, knowing i got a good rate, would be more upset if i did'nt get it+the rate dropped considerably nearer the time i go.Would'nt be too upset if it went higher nearer the time i go,because i know i got a good rate-does that make sense?.x.

Do people think the $1.9725 rate currently on Fairfx is a good deal?

Or will it creep back up?

When was it $1.98?

Yes i believe that is a good rate,it was $1.98 this morning,it changes about 5-6 times thru the day.Who knows if it will go back up,or even go down again-there's no telling with anything like that.I got $1.95 about 2 weeks ago.x.

http://www.fairfx.com/whatitcosts

Full list here of costs, Sarah thinks it works well for her but I don't like things like 80p min to speak to customer services, or £10 fee for disputed transactions (could be refunded), £5.99 fee for a replacement card etc etc.
Fees are clear if your are happy with them then the rate of $1.98 today is not bad.

To those of you getting a Fairfx card, if you need to contact customer services and it's about something that's not urgent, you can email them and they get back to you within 24 hours. I've asked them several questions via this way and they've been very prompt.

i called them today on at 0207 number that i found when i googled them so no more 80p phone calls

they were so helpful and even called me back to confirm something

There's a really good site for finding an alternative number for most premium rate numbers for all sorts of things. : http://www.saynoto0870.co.uk/search.php Use it all the time as my home phone tarrif includes all 01 or 02 numbers but not 0845 0870 etc. Amazing how may alternative numbers there are, even freephone ones!!

Back onto the subject - Just got an Abbey Zero card that is also fee free but it is mastercard not visa. Anyone know how to find out todays rate for mastercard, or is it the same as visa?

were on talktalk so we get free cals to 01+02 numbers,so if we have an 0845 type number to ring we go to http://www.saynoto0870.com/.then we get there number so we can ring it free

Sorry can't help you with your question but just wanted to say cheers for that link.x.

I am pretty lucky as DH is currently in Iraq (forces) and the currency used is $. The Army offer a flat exchange rate of $2 - £1 so hubby is sneakily stockpiling some $ for spending when he gets home and we head to the house of mouse.

At M&S you currently get a £10 voucher off (if you spend £20) if you buy £250 of currency - so not bad with rates.

libor rate $1.9946, fell slightly at end of trading, excellent value on credit card, message for Wayne..... who i am sure will know......is there a charge for withdrawing cash from cashpoint on nationwide card, its quicker to ask you rather find terms and conditions... thanks
