1yo on PoC?

We'll be going to WDW in Jan. with my 1yo son. Can we bring him on Pirates of Caribbean? The only part I remember which might be a problem is that little drop. What has been people's experiences? Now that I think of it, did anyone's children get scared b/c the ride is so dark?

Our 20 month old was quite frightened by PoC in Disneyland. Mostly it was the darksness, as opposed to the scenes. The drop happened too quickly to really have an effect. However, I must add that PoC was one of the first rides we went on. By the third day, he handled the Haunted Mansion quite well. So if you work up to the PoC, and not make it the first ride on the first day, your child will probably handle it OK.

None of my kids have ever had a problem on Pirates and have gone on as young as 1 yr. They think the mini drop is fun. But then my kids aren't scared of much. They have seen the Disney sing-alongs so many times before going that they know most of these "dark" rides by heart, anyway.

My littlest had no problem with PoC when we took him at that age. He isn't afraid of much either. What you might want to do if your little one is nervous in the dark is to buy either one of those small penlights (most of the resorts and parks have them with Disney Characters on them) or one of the fiberoptic flashlights that he could turn on or you could turn on if he gets scared. I have heard from others on the boards that this has helped their children greatly.

My fearless 2 1/2 yo dd was very frightened on PoC the first time. She just clung to me. She relaxed by the end of the ride and liked seeing the dog. We went on it later in the week and she wasn't as bothered by it but it wasn't her favorite thing to do.
