We purchased DVC in 2008 shortly after having our 2nd child! This was a "gift" to me from my DH for going through childbirth/c-section :) He's such a wonderful man!!

Anyway, this is the first use year that we will not be visiting WDW. We used to live in Raleigh, NC where our children were in year round school. Loved it for many reasons, of which, one of them included being able to travel during non-peak times of the year. We moved to Charlotte in late 2012 and have been to WDW 3 times since moving. However, 2 of those times were doing summer 2013.

We are planning a BIG trip in the summer of 2015 and have decided not to use our points this year for a trip to Orlando. Instead we are going to HHI which is only a 4-5 hour drive. HHI was the 1st DVC we stayed in after purchasing in and loved it.

But, I'll have to admit that my DD who is 6 and I are really missing being at WDW. She is as much (if not more) of a Disney enthusiast as I am.

If I can get super cheap flights at some point before next summer, I may just have to take her on a weekend girls trip to WDW!

Thanks for reading! I'm really missing the world, but love being able to visit HHI instead!

HHI is nice. i love the seafood around that area.

a few years ago, i was tired of going to wdw...so i went to disneyland in CA instead... ;)

We used our points to stay at HHI this year (June) and loved it, but we missed our trip to WDW! We couldn't stand it so we booked a quick trip next week and another next March.

I have a similar story. We took our little kids to WDW, staying off-site, for the 1st time in 2003 and fell in love...2nd trip was at POR with DDP and, OMG, it was magical...so we bought DVC in 2006. We lived in Durham at the time and our kids were in year round elementary there and we LOVED our end of Sept trips to WDW. Then, in Sept 2007 (when we had a Disney cruise booked), we moved back to our home town area in MD...boo. We didn't think we'd be able to get to WDW so much anymore so we let MIL and FIL pitch in to use 1/2 our allotment of points for each year (basically they split ownership with us). They liked to go for 6 nights in Jan every year and we figured we'd be doing school breaks every 3 years. But then we missed it and DH was moving up the ladder at work (so we could swing airfare), so we started adding on points beginning with HHI points so we could do that every 3 years, WDW every 3 years and a cruise every 3 years...but that wasn't enough so we added on more (AKV in 2013 and then BWV in 2014). Those dang PAP special deals roped us in the past couple years and we find we are doing a few shorter trips each year. We try to find low crowd times...like semester break in Jan or DH and I for F&W...but due to my DDs' competitive softball schedule, Aug or Xmas is the best time for family trips and it is crowded then.

Good news is that DH is now working at his NC job again and we are in the process of buying a condo in Durham for him to stay at while working. I will stay here in MD with teens while they finish HS for 2.5 years and then we will permanently relocate to Durham. We will add on more points because DH and I want to do several, off season, trips to WDW and HHI every year...Jan, F&W and F&G...Sept at HHI. and maybe March or April at HHI.

We just did WDW and HHI in Aug...we LOVED HHI, so you guys will have a great time next summer. Check out my TR for ideas...http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3303231

Several years ago we had to skip a year due to financial reasons but still kept our trip to HHI, love it there too! By the time we got back to WDW the year after we all couldn't wait and was highly anticipated!! In fact we found it was nice to have a break and makes coming back so much more special! We know routinely get AP's one year and do two or three trips in that AP year and then skip a year and three quarters before we go back. Still go to HHI though. :). It works well for us and makes Disney more special. On those off years there ate many other wonderful places to explore!! :)

We did vero this summer. It's a great resort. We were at the parks in jan. For our summer family vacation I was too tired. Vero is a great choice, as well as hilton head and availability in the summer seems much easier to come by.

Thanks to everyone for your words of encouragement and great suggestions! I hope that everyone has a fantastic labor day holiday weekend.

We considered not going this year as it is getting harder to take our DD (10) out of school. We go almost every year and enjoy going in the fall. Living in NY - it gives us a little extension of summer to enjoy.

DW and DD were pretty bummed, and after thinking it over we decided to go this year, and possibly skip next year as DD will be transitioning to middle school. I love WDW, but have no desire to be there during the peak times or school vacations, so we will need to figure out when to go.

We still love WDW, and always have a blast when we go. Feeling very thankful for our DVC membership. If we dont go next year, it will be a bummer, but we have so many great vacations to look back on, and it will probably make the next trip even more of a thrill.
