I booked a studio at my Home Resort of SSR 11 months out thinking that this year the first week of december would be very difficult to get at 7 months because of Thanksgiving being so late, and boy was I right. I have 2 other resorts waitlisted BWV and OKW since the 7 month window but nothing yet. Dont get me wrong i love SSR and i am happy to have my reservation i am just wondering how crowded it will be. There is now a free dining available but guess what????????? not the first 11 days of december. So will it just be us DVC'ers there or will the entire world be there?

Any thoughts????

I have read numerous times the first week in December is the most popular time for DVC. That being said, I was on the computer at 8am to book our 1 week at BLT and our other week at AKL/V (our two home resorts).

I am sooo happy there is no free dining during the majority of our stay! Whew! I'm hoping it really will be a quiet time in the parks as this is our first holiday time stay and we're both really looking forward to this trip!

So, to answer your question, I'm thinking it'll be a lot of DVCers! ;):thumbsup2

RiverCountry...looks like we arrive on the same day too!

Two words. Pop Warner.

When I first bought DVC, I always went the first week of December. Not only DVC but most of the onsite hotels are always full. But I never found the parks to be over crowded. Park crowds consist of onsite guests, offsite guests and locals. I don't think that time attracts as many offsite guests and locals as onsite guests.

The last two trips were the first weekend after Thanksgiving, during Pop Warner. Never really saw a group of players/kids/cheerleaders anywhere. Their host hotels are not DVC hotels- usually one value and one moderate. Do you think THAT many people decide to go deluxe? Not sure I'm sold that is the reason. (This was pre DVC for us and we stayed at the Dolphin/Swan).

Both trips it was 80 degrees, low humidity, low crowds. I would think those reasons would book repeat visitors (DVC) and fill up those rooms.

First week of December 2012, and the 1st half of the second week. The second week was a tad more crowded, but both weeks were quite nice.

Pop Warner is week 2 of December, and effects the value/moderate resorts more, and universal studios. The kids are playing football during the day, so the biggest effect is at night.

Also Hanukkah falls on the same day as thanksgiving, and my previous experience is that park attendance is lower during the holiday.

No, I think it will be fine. We always go either the 1st or 2nd week of December. For overall crowds, it's always nice. I would never call the first part of December crowded.

For DVC it's a very popular week, so that's why most of it is booked. I can't speak for other onsite hotels. Don't know anything about them.

Also, the Christmas parade taping (some people actually like to be there for that) and the annual member meeting.

I am wait listed too. SSR for now--hoping for a 2Br at BWV or BC. I see my chances dwindling!

I knew it would be crazy. I had my ipad out to book my room at exactly 11 months out last January. I was coaching a middle school wrestling tournament that started at 8:15 am. It was a bit stressful as I was getting BLT SV.

We are going to be at AKV Jambo House for the 1st week of Dec. Really happy that there is no free dining during that time and hope the crowds are all out shopping instead of being at WDW. ;)

We go first week ofDec almost every year, DVC resorts always book up at the 11 month window, that being said my sister who does not own DVC booked last year 3 wks out at Port Orleans with no problem... Yrs ago when we would go in early Dec the parks were empty, not so much anymore but they are not really crowded either.

I thought we would be free of the "free dining" folks right before Christmas, but I see our 12/15-12/24 we will have them.:sad2:

We booked 11 months out for SSR for December 4th - 21st and had no issues.

We managed just after 7 months out to switch the 9th to the 21st to Kidani (we just love that resort so much), but have not had any luck with moving those first few days to Kidani. At least we're at Disney and have a place to stay :)

In 2008 we were there when pop warner was on and didn't really feel that it affected us...most of the time we were heading out of a park late afternoon for an evening dinner reservation and the groups (HUGE groups) of kids were just arriving - cheering and having fun - didn't affect us in the resort at all.
