***1st Week of December Thread ADR Plans, Park Hours, and dealing with Pop Warner***

Thanks @Mal6586! I love hearing "success stories!" haha Gives me hope! :-) Isn't it such a thrill to secure something you've been trying so hard to get? Such a great feeling! :flower1:

Such a thrill that it took me almost an hour to calm myself back down to go back to sleep! It was all I could do not to run into my rommie's bedroom and wake her up too! Haha! :yay:

Ohh! I have not thought about this too much yet but I do want to do the silhouette for my son. Was considering the starbucks mugs too (collecting mugs is bad... very heavy :P) Maybe some clothing but not sure what else...
I just have the MK and Epcot mugs. I had the purple monorail epcot mug when it first came out and before they pulled it off the shelves and I sold it on ebay for $275 when people were going nuts for it (yeah I am not going to drink out of a $275 mug) and replaced it when they came out with the new batch that had the silver monorail stripe. I also have one of disneyland (with the castle) and one from NYC. I decided not to get a full set, it's just too much, so I just got my two favorite parks. Though kind of want the HS one now since the earful tower is gone and the park will change so much. If I get that one I will for sure get AK because why not.

Oh....oh...oh... souvenirs!!!

I have no idea. I plan on giving each child a $100 Disney gift card. Ill let them make their own choices. My DD lifeguards so she'll have some of her own funds. I'll probably give DS the opportunity to do extra chores to earn some spending money. I'm sure Grandma and Grandpa will slip the kids some spending money before we go.

My souvenirs will be the everlasting smiles and memories. :flower1:

I am so glad it's not just me. I was getting sulky about it because DH always makes remarks like "it's FINE, do whatever...I don't want input!" I told him if he's totally sure about that, then he has to be prepared to follow my plans to the letter without complaint. Which he will do...this is the way we plan all our vacations. I've just never had to do this much planning. I love planning, btw so for me it's mostly fun.
I'm with all of you ladies. I'll be looking at the boards and randomly say something about Disney to DH, as if he was reading along with me, which drives him nuts! :D I plan everything for all of our vacations, but Disney is when I go into hyper planning mode. DH pretty much just shows up (in the clothes I pack for him!), and does whatever I plan. I do ask his input for big things, but he just doesn't research like I do, so to him, he doesn't understand why I obsess over ADR's or our plans. Luckily he does love Disney and has a blast when we get there, he's just not into the planning stage like I am.

I have a bunch of disney dollars ($100 worth) and now I can't spend them because they have gone away. BUT I have them and my kiddo earns them for his spending money. I found in 2014 that it stemmed a lot of the "I wants" that go along with disney. I want that fan with the spray bottle. I want that spinny thing. I want that balloon (that mom will have to keep track of). I'd always say "do you want it badly enough to spend YOUR money on it?" and it was always "no, not really." I did buy him a hat and a t-shirt out of "my money" but for everything else he had to use his money that he "earned." I have not been so good at paying him this year because a lot of the things I established for chores have stuck and he just does them and I don't need to be so specific about rewarding him. But I will give him a $100 disney gift card as "his" money that he can spend how he wants for this trip too.

Regarding souvenirs, we'll probably be buying a lot of Christmas stuff! We already have a Disney themed tree, but I'll be looking for a specific tree topper, and probably some decorations.
Also, we always buy hats, and will definitely buy a shirt or something from MVMCP since its our first time going!
Speaking of which, are any of you decorating your resort windows for Christmas? When we went at Halloween in 2009 we decorated and people commented on how cute it was.

LOL, I know what you mean by hyper planning mode. DH always tells me I'll have nothing to do after the trip is over since this is what preoccupies me the most! (I normally say plan the next trip and he'd get mad :P) I've gotten up all hours to make restaurant reservations but nothing else makes me do it 6 months ahead!

I'm seriously thinking about it! At the very least maybe bringing a string of lights and some window clings. And I really want to make some little Christmas candy/goodie bags for mousekeeping. I'll just have to figure out a way to make sure they're labeled very obviously so they know they're for them!

I want to get all 4 but I'm going to be carrying a lot of fragile stuff with a toddler seems very difficult... Love the disney princess ones too... I got a set of villains at home and love those. :P

That's a great idea!! I'm going to decorate the mousekeeping envelopes but did not think of this! Thank you! :)

Those are without a doubt the VERY BEST mementos!! My son is mowing the neighbor's yard all summer and will use that money for his souvenirs. My daughter is working at the zoo over the summer, but it's an unpaid volunteer position so she'll do extra chores for spending money. I very much like the idea of the kids earning their spending money, not just for the impact on my wallet but for the lessons it teaches. Especially at the ages they are where they certainly have earning potential! They are far more careful in what they choose I think and not so quick to want everything in sight! :-)

Speaking of souvenirs, anyone thinking of the light up ears?? They look so cute... :D I especially like the Star Wars one but seems like it sells out very quickly.

I've been thinking about decorating lately! On another thread I learned about a $400 Disney-themed Christmas tree option through Disney Floral and Gift. Sounds so adorable but not even close to being in our budget. But I really like the window decorating idea! That would be so fun to add that festive touch to the room! :-) Did you use window clings?

Our R/T flights for 3 are $1200. Eek!:scared1: I could reduce that significantly if I was willing to drive to Chicago or Detroit. Here in Kalamazoo, we're roughly half-way between the two and it would be about a 2-1/2-hour drive to either. I'm not willing to do that by myself with the kids in Michigan December weather though. Nope, NOT happening! lol So we're flying to Chicago first which is seriously only like 20 minutes, it's so quick, then direct to Orlando from there. Arrival day has us landing in Orlando by noon and our flight home takes off at 2ish, so I'm super happy with flight times. :woohoo:
We live close to Midway so flying on SWA is relatively cheap for us, usually. But I can't blame you for wanting to avoid driving to Chicago in December. Anytime you get near Lake Michigan in SW Michigan or northern Indiana can be a nightmare. And then there is Chicago traffic. :(

Hi all-- can I join this lovely group? We're going to be checking into Port Orleans Riverside on Sunday 12/4 and checking out Saturday 12/10. I've been before but its the first trip for my kids who 3 (boy) and soon to be 5 (girl). We're doing 5 days in the parks. This is our park schedule.
...
We're all so excited about this trip, and really hoping that it isn't super crowded. I didn't realize it was Pop Warner week (didn't even know what Pop Warner was!) until after we'd booked our trip.
I love Port Orleans Riverside. It is such a nice resort. I always feel relaxed there. :)
The Magic kingdom will be crowded on the non-party days, unfortunately. But the other parks should be fine. :)

By the way, I found a Tusker House breakfast ressie so I'm thinking of switching things (AGAIN...)
Dec 4 - DHS AM EMH
Plan will be to go to DHS for AM EMH, walk/ boat over to EPCOT for lunch and then bus to AK
(L) Garden Grill 11:30am
(D) Yak and Yeti 5:45pm
We want to go to Yak and Yeti for dinner one of our nights but I haven't found a good ADR time yet. I think I need to check out the list of speakers for Candlelight Processional before I plan dinner.

Dec 5 the whole day at DHS except for hopping to EPCOT for 11:30am lunch at Garden Grill...

What do you think? worth hopping around??
This will take at least a half hour boat ride once the boat shows up, or a 25 minute or longer walk from DHS to Epcot along the walkway past BWI, or a bus ride from DHS to the front of Epcot, to go to Garden Grill. I would stay at DHS.

Make sure you're clearing your cookies before you search. The airline sites and 3rd party sites save your cookies, which can show a higher price because they know you looked previously.
I think that this must be true because I was looking for a cheap fare all weekend and didn't find it until I went to work on Monday and logged in using my work computer and a browser that did not have any cookies for SWA.

Do you have any souvenir plans?
I don't usually buy any souvenirs but we might buy some Christmas presents while we are there. We did this back in Dec 2013 and we brought an extra bag just for the gifts we purchased. :)

Speaking of souvenirs, anyone thinking of the light up ears?? They look so cute... :D I especially like the Star Wars one but seems like it sells out very quickly.
I am a sucker for ears! I'll have to check out the light up ones though. I have to be super careful with Etsy. I could blow my entire souvenir budget buying stuff from that site before I even get to Disney!!

the pop warner thing should not affect you. You are not staying at any of the resorts that they are staying at and they have a private party on Wednesday typically at HS so that shouldn't affect you either. With kids your age a day a park and a second day for the MK is perfection! what ADRs do you have? And yes of course, :welcome:

Thank you, Lisa F! I'm so glad you don't think Pop Warner should affect us. Our current ADR plans are:
  • Sunday-- Chef Mickey dinner. I'm trying to find an earlier time because I currently have 8:30 and it's a bit late for my kiddos. It wasn't ever in my plans do an ADR on our arrival date, but I saw the Chef Mickey appear last night and I was convinced it was a sign we were meant to open our trip with dinner at Chef Mickey!
  • Monday-- we have two ADRs booked. (1) Ohana breakfast at 11:40 which I think I might cancel. It'll be our first day at the MK (we plan on RD) and I think our kids will not want to leave at 11 to head over to the Poly. Plus, I think they will need a break in the middle of the day and I think Ohana plus a nap break will be just too much time away from the MK. I really want to do Ohana breakfast with them so I'm so torn (2) BOG dinner in the evening which I'm super excited about. I snagged this stocking for cancellations!
  • Tuesday-- we have an ADR for Hollywood & Vine for the Disney Junior lunch. I think we won't RD HS and plan on a late arrival since we will be in the MK late on Monday.
  • Wednesday-- we have an Akershus ADR for my daughter's dinner. I hope to do Future World in the AM, take a break at the hotel and then come back for dinner and illuminations.
  • Thursday-- we have a Tusker house ADR for dinner. My friend is joining us with her daughter for the 2nd half of our week so our group grows to 6
  • Friday-- we have Crystal palace ADR for lunch, again with my friend. We will RD. We're not staying for the Christmas Party and will probably quick dine in Disney Springs that evening with the kiddos.
  • Saturday-- we currently have a Chef Mickey brunch ADR with my friend, but I'm not sure about this. I don't think that I want to dine at Chef Mickey twice in one week. I'd love to be able to snag an Ohana cancellation for Saturday morning (since I'm leaning towards cancelling my Monday Ohana breakfast) but it will depend what I can find, and if my friend will be OK with Ohana vs. Chef Mickey. We're also leaving this day and since we have a long drive home, I kind of don't want to wait until 3ish to leave. Our current Chef Mickey brunch is at 1pm.
I know I shouldn't worry so much about these ADRs and it will all work out in the end, but I'm obsessed with trying to get it right! Ugh. I'm sure I'll be a mess when it comes to booking the fast passes. LOL!

Sounds so adorable but not even close to being in our budget. But I really like the window decorating idea! That would be so fun to add that festive touch to the room! :-) Did you use window clings?
Yep! I found a lot of small Disney-themed things at Walgreens, of all places. We did window clings, a string of purple and orange lights, tiny Mickey head pumpkins, and some little Mickey head cutouts I had made with construction paper in Halloween colors.
I'll probably do some thing similar for Christmas as well. But @Mal6586 I LOVE the idea of goodie bags for Mousekeeping. We usually make little envelopes, but I'm thinking of those little decorated plastic bags, with a printed note that says its for Mousekeeping with a cute saying or design. Thanks for the tip!!

Great plans. I do think 2x at Chef Mickeys might be too much and an earlier ADR on your departure day would work better for you. I hope you do find Ohana on that day! :) If ever, maybe you could look at 1900 Park Fare as well. It gets pretty good reviews for breakfast. I think all of us (I've tweaked mine a hundred times now!) would like to perfect our ADRs :D

Walgreens really surprises me sometimes! I remember one Easter waiting way too long to get SOLID milk chocolate bunnies for baskets and Walgreens came through after trying a whole bunch of other places first! Who knew?! lol Your window sounds like it was super cute! :-) Loving the Mousekeeping idea too @Mal6586! Thanks all around for the great ideas!! :-)
