1st Visit pin / Does it bring special treatment?

My 18 year old niece worn one on her first trip in July. She didn't get any special treatment as far as I could tell.

I'm not sure about 1st visit button, but if it's your birthday and you get a birthday button, all the CM's tell you happy birthday and also alot of the guest do too.

Last year was the first trip for my DGF and she didn't get any special treatment at all. She wore it everyday and didn't have one Cast Member or anyone else for that matter say something. Overall its just a nice FREE souvenirs, no one should expect special treatment.

Last year we were at City hall when a CM came up and started talking to to my 4 year old son...I didnt know ANYTHING about the first timer pins...anyway, she asked if he had been to Disney before, and he said "no, this is my first time here". She then gave him the First visit pin and THEN she asked him if he liked any of the pins on her lanyard....he saw a a chip and Dale and he said "I like that one"..she said "well then here you go" and gave it to him!

That was the only "special" thing, but it was still wonderful and made his day- he felt special because his big brother didnt get one (he had been there 2 times prior).

My DD9 wore one when we went 2 years ago, and at the rope drop for epcot a cast member saw it and just started with a couple of comments to her, and ended up talking to all of us. We ended up bieng selected for family of the day. I am convinced that if it was not for the pin it would not have happened.
We were told that the cast members are supposed to say hi and stuff for the pins. I think that there is a heirarchy of the pins, a Just Married pin probably gets more comments that a First Visit pin. I even had a couple of comments while wearing the pin that we got for family of the day.

I have never seen so many 1st visit buttons like I saw in June. It seems like every other family wore them. I doubt the CMs can keep up with all of them.

Can the buttons be picked up near the entrances to all the parks, but outside the turnstiles? I'm thinking its something to take care of while waiting for the turnstiles to open.

My friend's button was given to her by the valet guy (or bellman, not sure) at the AKL. He asked if we'd been there before and she said, "No! I've never even been out of Ohio before! This is wonderful!!" She meant it, too. She was really excited.

So he gets all bubbly and they start talking (she's also very pretty, thin and single and I could tell he kinda liked her) and he's giving her maps and a pin and a pen and about anything he could find. I'm suprised she didn't get a key ring or a staple.

We'd just arrived and she thought the place was like heaven on Earth. Maps and pins and pens and nice guys!!

I was sort of standing there chuckling to myself. It was a Disney moment.

This is not to cause a great debate on here, but I don't understand the whole "people abusing the button comments" that people make. I am taking my son who is turning 5 down for his birthday and plan on getting him a button and if he wants to wear it all week I fully intend to allow him to wear it. Now... I am not expecting to be given anything free but the purpose of the whole trip is to give him a magical birthday in any way possible and that includes the warm fuzzy feeling we all get when someone says happy birthday. I feel that if I just wanted him to have 1 magical birthday day I surely didn't need to spend a few thousand $$$'s to do it, I could have stayed home and threw a party and saved a ton. I chose Disney World for his birthday because we have been many times before and I love how magical it seems on a plain boring day so it must be even more magical on a birthday! Honeymooners get a whole week to suck up the attention and their wedding was only a 1 day affair so why can't birthday'ers suck it up as well!

It is just that Disney used to do nicer stuff for people who had birthdays. But now that everyone is wearing the birthday buttons - birthday or no birthday - they had to curtail that. They can't give free stuff to all those people.

It isn't really "abuse"...if you want to wear the button every day of the year, you can. They just can't give free stuff out to everyone with a button or let everyone with a button get a fastpass, etc. Too many buttons.

You don't expect anything for free and you won't get it and you'll be fine with that. But when a birthday was a rare thing, they could afford to do a little more for the birthday boy or girl, which is a really special birthday treat.

I think that is what this new promotion is going to be, with the "Magical Celebrations." They'll be welcoming people to celebrate there, with buttons and all. And they won't care if it is actually your day or you had a birthday a month ago or will have an anniversary next week or are taking your first trip, etc. But the stuff they get (like cakes or whatever) will be sold. I could be wrong.

Our last trip was my SILs first trip. He was given a pin when we checked in and he wore it all week. CMs here and there would say things to him like, "hope you're having a great first trip!", or ask him where he was from, that sort of thing.

It was also my birthday during the trip. I got alot more attention for my bday button.

As for people abusing the buttons, we were at WDW for 10 days. My bday was the last day we were there. About 1/2 way through the trip, we went to TL and a CM there was talking to the crowd before the park opened. She asked if it was anyone's bday. My DH volunteered me and she gave me a button. I told her it wasn't my bday until Saturday (5 days away at that point) and she said, "That doesn't matter, you should have been wearing it since you got here. This IS your bday trip, right?"

So I wore it after that. Every CM I saw greeted me with a "happy birthday". To be honest, that's about all you get. Maybe a cupcake at dinner. But with what I paid for those meals, it wasn't like I was really getting anything for free!

I'm just excited the pin is free! Lol
It will be my families first trip ( but not mine. I went to MK as a kid in 1994. I barely remember any of it) I am excited that the three of them will get this pin though to remember their 1st (and possibly only) trip there. I did not get anything like that and my autograph book and pictures were destroyed in a house flood.
,It will also be my birthday month, a week after our anniversary, and a few days before my eldest daughters would be 13th birthday ( she passed as an infant), but none of those reasons are "why" we are going. We are doing it simply to make an amazing family memory! I've no idea what pin I should get myself...maybe just " I'm celebrating?" I would like to have one too. I feel like the pin IS the extra treatment!

Any special occasion pin has the potential for an extra smile or a kind word. Potential, and nothing more.

Just married pins or bride and groom hats DID get us a lot of extra smiles, congrats and the like. It made the trip really magical... that is all you can really expect, if even that....

While rare, some amazing experiences can happen. These can be small, but hold a special place in your heart and you will remember, always.

When my kids wire wirer first time pin they got to announce the opei of the Little Mermaid at HS. (Could have been because we weee standing up front), The CM behind the check in counter at ASMo gave them each a free autograph book and pen. They we're so excited and DH was stunned. That gift really stuck with all of us as a really magical moment.
