1st trip to MK as disabled - horrifying!!

HUGE Lifelong WDW fan (maybe former)

I traveled to WDW w my service dog in 5/16 - first time going alone and as being disabled.

While waiting in the MK "disabled" area w my ADA dog for the night events another patron intentionally kicked my svc dog - took me forever to find a cast member for help

wound up in WDW security for 4 hrs reporting the "incident" to the police

WDW has not reached out to me and I am extremely disappointed

I'm literally afraid to visit MK, again - I didn't go back to that park the rest of my stay

45 years of magic died that night

Any suggestions?

Not to pry but I think we would need a little more info about your specific needs with the ADA dog and the size of the dog to possibly help more.

For example, if the dog is a lap dog then I would consider a dog carrier. There are 4 wheeled dog carriers that would not be hard to pull and your dog would be somewhat protected that way.

If you had fellow travelers with you it might help if they surrounded you and the dog around the park like a shield.

If the dog is a lap dog and you wouldn't mind being in a wheelchair with someone pushing you if available then you could have your dog on your lap and not on the ground.

welcome to the DIS what time of days this because if it happened at night the other guest may not have seen your dog at all so the next time you co you might want to put some glow sticks on your dogs vest and maybe get a light up lesh

also it sounds like you talked to disney and you reported what happened what would or could disney do now. What would you like disney to do.

I'm very sorry about what that rude guest did. But I'm trying to figure out what you think Disney can do about a moment that has come and gone. There's no rule Disney can put in place to keep a guest from kicking a service animal. And can't imagine this is a wide-spread problem that Disney needs to solve.

And I'm very sorry to read about your unfortunate experience, that's really sad it happened.

Like other posters though, I must chime in with the questions. And of course not to pry but to understand a little more how it could happen.

1) The size of the service dog?
2) You mentioned that you were in the "accessible" area. Was it roped off or enclosed?
3) Not to diminish the incident at all, but what would you like Walt Disney World to do further for you?

I'm sorry that it happened, but It could have happened anywhere, just bad luck it was Disney. If it happened at the grocery store would you give up shopping forever? Not Disney's fault, and I'm not sure what they could have done to help. what would you suggest they do?

What a terrible thing for someone to do to an animal.
But, after the fact there would be nothing Disney could do. No way to know who/where the person would be, and no proof that it happened.
Sorry you wasted 4 hours of your park time on this when there was nothing to be gained by it - just a very upsetting time for you.
Hopefully you can put it behind you and again enjoy Disney.

There are so many positive things to think about, to let one incident spoil the 45 years of happiness that you have enjoyed there. Please just 'let it go'!!

That is horrifying. I'm sorry that happened to you and to your service animal. It sounds like you were depending on a safe place for yourself and your service animal to sit and the place you were in, ended up making you feel unsafe to be at MK. I'm not sure what Disney can will do about it. It sounds like you just unfortunately encountered a really mean person. Who kicks a dog?!

Sorry that happened to you. I think I would have yelled at the top of my lungs with a description of the one who kicked saying so and so..don't kick my service dog again. Bet a lot of people would have looked at that family. ..maybe even embarrassing them for a moment. Hope your dog was ok

It may also be that Disney is restricted from communicating with you now that it is a matter for the police. Once there is a criminal complaint, if Disney got involved, it may legally be seen as trying to influence the process.
