1st trip ever to DW (40+) your expert guidence appreciated!

All rightee, then!...As daily plans are more defined and we get closer to departure dates, we can firm up a rendezvous point. (fyi, there's a private messaging capability on this board should we want to communicate that way...)

Wow. I get more excited about my trip with each passing day! I'm so happy to be able to say that, was a bit concerned that I'd lost the appreciation of the Disney magic that I'd cherished so much and for so long all those years ago....

I'm so glad you posted cuz with everyone in the world today getting their AP
discounts,(I tried, not successful) I was feeling a little sad..Thanks

Don't be sad :flower:

Do you have an AP?? Were you lookin' primarily for a room discount?? Or you really want/will use an AP? I haven't really paid too much attention to what it all means, since not relevant to my trip, just been focused on the MYW package....I don't think you can use AP and also have a package, but I could be mistaken. But then, you'd decided against (!!) the meal plan anyway, so.....You can still get AAA discount--are you a member?--which is better than a sharp stick in the eye; my AAA savings more than amounted to an extra night's stay + meal, and I was cool with that. If you need a fairly Disney savvy AAA agent, I can send you the info on mine--toll free# and she's in So. CA (got her off of this board!--from poster who lives somewhere east of the Rockies!)

I have been to disneyworld alot in my 41 years. If you Like rides, go to mgm and do the rock n roller coaster and tower of terror, when you are there go to that area first, they are right next to each other. Get a fast pass for one and wait for the other, by the time you are done you will be on the other, or while you are waiting for your fastpass you can go on other rides in the park that arent as busy. The major ride fast passes go quickly sometimes and sometimes later in the afternoon the fastpasses will already be gone for the day. I love fast pass and I seem to get alot more in than if I waited in line not taking advantage of using them :flower: :flower: :flower:

Okay, for my own edification, I read the entire section re: discts/codes/AP on Mousesavers. Gotta tell you, I don't think you're really missing a whole lot IF you opt into another one of the available deals (e.g., MYW, or even AAA room only). Each scenario has a degree of trade off, so, in the end, it can be a level playing field for the most part.

If you and DH have to buy AP in order to get the room discount, you're still making a substantial investment (over $800 fo 2 people) that essentially mitigates the cost savings you're trying to obtain. AP clearly works for many people, but not so sure it would pay off for you, so DON'T be sad. I know I sound like a broken record, but I think you 2 could value more from MYW with the meal plan via AAA than you would from a room only AP discount @ BC. Can you share what troubles you about the meal plan?

Fyi, the reported AP before-tax rate for Pop (where I'll be staying) is $74. With AAA discount, I'm getting the room for $84. A $10 difference is hardly a deal-breaker (granted, the $ %'s vary with the resort, but it's all relative.) In addition, with the meal plan, I can eat my way (yikes! eat my way, magic your way) through WDW. My restaurant choices and the times I set up PS's will absolutely enhance the experience, and I have no doubt that it will practically pay for itself--and that makes my overall discount at least as good as what someone on AP is getting, if not better! One poster who'd been on the meal plan reported yesterday that they'd had lobster at Narcoosee's, total $177 (don't know if with t & t); by my calculations, for 2 adults on the dining plan, the "investment" was $80 (or $100 if inclusive). That's quite a savings. Who wouldn't be thrilled. Time your PS right and you add in seeing both the fireworks and the water parade, how cool is that?! Also could be very romantic for you guys....If you consider that you pretty much have to make PS anyway if you want to eat anything more than a hot dog, there's nothing freedom-cramping about it.

Another thing you save on MYW is the airport transfer costs. By our arrival dates, Magical Express will have been implemented. I estimate that perk to be worth roughly $40 (including tips), so double for you guys. This is not available to any room only guests. Plus, it's one less thing I have to take care of, and that's worth something, too!

So, what is the actual amount you'd be saving on the room at BC each night if you were able to get the AP discount? $20? $40? $60? (and don't forget to subtact the difference between what you'd pay for AP vs. what you'd pay for MYW park tickets) You would easily save that each day on the meal plan x 2, AND you could still get a 10% AAA discount (off of rack rate, room portion of package), so at least another $25 off per day, and your transfers would be covered. Thus, like I said at the beginning of this post, I'm not so sure you're really missing out on anything....
