1st timer going to Whispering Canyon

I have heard that if you have dinner at Whispering Canyon (in the Wilderness Lodge resort), they do "funny" things. Does anyone know what these "funny things" are? (traveling with young children who can be frightened easily)

Pony races, throwing straws and napkins, yelling for ketchup, sometimes (in good fun) shouting to each and guests. It is really fun.

The place is very loud. Servers bang around things like slamming the door, dropping the food tray holder on the floor, yell...that sort of thing.

The servers also interact with you like throwing straws on the table, yelling for someone to bring ketchup when you ask for it....now this your kids may love because whoever has a ketchup bottle on the table has to run it to the table asking for it, and it is usually the kids who get to "run" it.
As said above they have stick pony races and joke with you but it is all in fun.

I would prepare the kids for the noise and laugh at things, take the "edge" off for them.
It is a very fun place. Food is good too!!

It also depends on your server (or the servers) working that particular shift. When we were there, there were no pony races, no "ketchup" antics, etc. We were very unhappy with the restaurant overall, unfortunately.

While we have always seen the ketchup stunt, and the pony races, the antics of the server vary greatly. Some are very funny; others don't kid around quite as much - I think they sort of take their cues from what they perceive the table would like.

We love the family skillet there!! Last time, the restaurant was packed and, though we had an ADR, we were placed in the back in a corner area that was pretty isolated. It worked out OK since DS2 was sleeping in the stroller at the time, but others may not like being seated here if they prefer to be in the middle of the action.

Years ago we were being seated and the server took DS7's hat off his head and threw it up on the chandelier. It hung there the whole meal. He was so distracted with getting his hat back he didn't eat. When he wanted more juice we motioned to the server to come over. We asked for the juice and the server looked at him and said loudly 'all ya had to do was holla partner'. DS looked at me and said 'you told me not to yell in restaurants!' Til this day 19yrs later he doesn't like this kind of place. If your kids are sensitive they might not be comfortable here.

We went for lunch during a slow time and so we had our server and another CM who was playing around with us. I put my sunglasses on the table and then they were with an entirely diffrent CM who said that he bought them off of our server I got my sunglasses back but it was all in good fun. Breakfast my sister asked for katsup and everyone in the restraunt brought her ever bottle in the plae just about. During lunch MDD spilled her shake so the server brought her a new cup that was "spill proof" it ad masking tape all over the lid and onto the cup, funny thing is that ODD spilled her drink the morning we had breakfast there so she got the same kind of cup.

I have heard though that the servers can kind of tell if you dont want to participate in the antics...when you check in, see if they can give you one of the more mellow servers.

If you get there early enough you can ask for a quiet seat and you'll still be able to see the action but it's not out in the open with noise all around. My son is a little shy, but I think this trip he'd be ready to make noise.
