We are leaving for our first ever trip to WDW on 4/17. We are staying at the POR. It will be me DH and DD-4. Is POR kid friendly? Is there a coffee pot in the room or should we bring our own? Also, how is transportation to the parks. We will have our own car and I am wondering when to use the bus and when to drive our own. We are going to all 4 parks plus typhoon lagoon. Any suggestions any one has would be greatly appreciated!

Its very kid friendly!!
You guys will have a blast...make sure to ask for the best room possible...especially since your DD is young...the walks to the food court can seem like forever...especially when your hungry!!!

Transportation was pretty good...some buildings are a good distance from the bus stops and parking though...the resort is slightly spread out....
I would say take the buses to all the parks...I don't ever remember having a serious problem....the boat to DTD is great...but depending on what time your coming/going it can be a wait....if your in a rush...drive....but definatley take the boat at least once...I'm sure your little one will love it!

The pool will be great for your DD....its one of the best themed for a moderate!....
to get a feel for the resort...you can check out a map here...

HAVE FUN!:wave2:

We enjoyed POR when we were there (me, DH, DD5 and DS2). The scenery is very pretty and the kids liked the pool. The food court was pretty good, but we never ate in the restaurant. We found the transportation to work out fine. We usually only had a 5 to 10 minute wait at the bus stop. The longest trip was to AK, I think about 20 minutes. The only problem we had was when we were trying to get to MK one evening for Spectro. POR shares busses with POFQ. Three busses came by all full (we were at the 3rd stop at POR though) and we finally took a bus to Epcot and then took the monorail to MK. I'm sure it would have been easier just to walk up to the front of POR to the first stop, but we really weren't thinking at that point!! If you have a car I would say use it if you absolutely have to be somewhere at a certain time, for PS or EE, for example. Otherwise, if you're time is more flexible, the busses worked just fine. :D

Hi there

LOVE this resort, you will have so much fun....I would request a mansion home, I think Partierre place is right across the bridge from the foodcourt and you can see fireworks at night from your room if you have a riverview...ALSO no coffee maker in the room (maybe upon request?) We bought the refillable mugs which are great because we could have all the coffee, tea, soda, or cocoa we wanted. Also I just heard that they do campfire smores roasts behind the main pool area every evening...be sure to check that out!

POR was awesome. We were in AB section BLDG 27 and it was perfect. We did have a hairdryer and coffemaker in our room. You can request them I believe once you get there if there is not one in your room.

Hannasmomma,

Make sure you take your DD to see Bob Jackson in the lounge at POR. He is the piano player who plays Wed-Sun nights and it is a very kid friendly fun show. He has the kids get up and dance and march around! They really seemed to love it.
They have snacks and drinks in the lounge or you can fill up your refillable mug in the food court and just hang out.

POR is a beautiful and very kid friendly resort. You will love it.

Hi hannasmomma. As everyone has stated you will have a great time at PO. When we stayed there we were in AB Building 14. It was a corner room with two windows, and just a hop, skip, and a jump to the food court. We weren't far from the pool either which made it nice for my then 10 year old. Take care. :)

Sorry...jumping in with another ques. Hope you don't mind.

What about an iron? Do they have them in the rooms at POR?

No, POR does not have irons or ironing boards in the rooms. However, last time we stayed at POR, we requested an iron & board from Mousekeeping upon arrival in our room and they were delivered within 20 minutes. We were able to keep them in our room for our entire stay.

Hi there!

We just got back from POR - stayed from 3/22-26. We were in the Mansion side, Magnolia Terrace, and it was very close to the bus stop, and not far from the bridge to the food courts and pool. My children are 6 and 8, and it was an easy walk for them. I highly recommend it!

As I said, it was VERY close to the bus stop, but the stop was the last one. On the "early" day for MK, we sat and watched about 3 full buses go by before we took the bus to Epcot and monorail to MK. That taught us our lesson - on AK's early day, we drove over, and walked right in - no parking charge for resort guests, y'know. That worked out very well!

If early days aren't a big deal for you, then I'd go ahead and ride the buses, they are very convenient.

I'd bring your own coffee pot, and make use of the optional refrigerators. It was great to have cereal in our rooms before going to the parks - less walking for the girls.

Thanks!!!

When I was there in Feb. the rooms did have irons and ironing boards.

That's pretty good odds...50-50 LOL

I might take my travel iron just in case. It doesn't take up much room.

Looks like things may have been changed at POR for the better!
Good addition!

I just wanted to add my two cents...

I went with my neice who was two at the time. The beds are very high so we requested a roll away bed. It was much lower than the beds. It fit perfectly between the bed and the wall, so I didn't have to worry about DN falling out of bed. She LOVED having her own bed.

We used our own car all of the time. This was doing low season, so parking was never a problem. It was great to be able to put her in her car seat when leaving a park and not having to hold her on the buses. She always fell right to sleep in the car seat.

As for the pool, you can get her a life preserver at the marina at the beginning of your stay. She can use that for your entire visit, so you won't have to keep returning it and getting a new one. This worked out great!

When we were there they had a coffee maker and an ironing board. We used the coffee maker to make hot water for oatmeal in the mornings. This was another thing DN loved!

You are going to have a great time. Just remember to take breaks when ever necessary. This was very important. Also, we never woke DN up in the morning. We went by her schedule. Again, it was during low season, so not a problem either.

Enjoy!

Hi there, We just came back from POR, and LOVED it!!! We stayed in AB bldg 15, we were close to everything, foodcourt, pools, laundry, busses. We didn't drive our car once we arrived, unless we went offsite somewhere, the busses are great. The boat is nice too, if you'd like a change from the busses, but FYI, at least while we were there, the boat only ran directly from POR to DTD after 4pm, before that it was just a shuttle boat to POFQ. But from DTD back to the hotle at night, it was a nice change of pace, plus you go right by the new VC resort...Saratoga Springs...I think is the name. I think there was a coffe pot in our room, and an ironing board, but I could be wrong, as we don't drink coffee or need an Iron lol. Have fun and enjoy!!!

We were at POR in March and there was an iron and ironing board and hairdryer in the room when we arrived. When we came back to the room the first night they had brought a coffemaker and several packets of coffee while we were out. I didn't request it, don't even drink coffee.

We love POR, my DD is 12 and it is her favorite resort. You will have a great time.

Just wanted to thank you all for all the great info. :chat:
