1st time going to walt disney world

OK my fiance and I are planning a trip in Aug I have a daughter that will be turning 16 then who really wanted to celebrate it disney style I need to to mention we are also planning on getting married there in October. is there any happenings going on there in Aug? we plan on staying at the fort but have not decided yet on tent verses cabins any in put to help me decide would be great. we will be using the cabins in October since we need the room to get ready.

Tent camping in October should be OK, in August it will be hot, unless you rig an ac to your tent. The cabins are nice, but pricey.

If you can wait and go the week in August before Labor Day weekend. The crowds will be smaller and the prices drop on the sites usually after August 15.

i am planning on arriving there the 22nd in Aug my daughter's birthday is the 24th would that would that still be in the discounted rate? do they have discounts on the cabins too or just the loops?

I think tent camping will be putting a lot on your plate for first trip. After all day and night hopping parks I think you will appreciate a nice hot shower and bed that the cabins provide. Coffee in the morning..fridge with breakfast stuff..nice deck with grill to take in the woods. And if it rains..like it always does in the summer at some point in the day...I wouldnt want to be in a tent. I'm a popup guy and after numerous trips to disney I look forward to the camping as much as the parks. But first trip..?

OK I did not think of that my daughter and I are Avid tent campers summer time we camp every weekend. but Fiance Is not use to so much tent camping. OK I have another question to do any fishing down at the fort do I need to get a Florida fishing license?

And that answer would be "No".
You do not need a fishing license when fishing Disney property.
You may bring your own fish'n equipment to fish,,Disney will rent you fish'n poles and bait if you don't bring your own,,or you can do a Bay Lake Fishing Excursion at the Fort Marina,(which is quite costly $$, but fun,)

Camping. In a tent. In August?!? Oh boy! I live near Disney and even my family won't go there during August. The heat index can reach upwards into the 100's and the humidity is just as high. I'd suggest, especially for your first trip, maybe grab a value room. As stated above you will want a shower and some a/c after a broiling day in the parks.

If you read Disneys paper work, it says exactly, Catch and Release on Bay Lake,,it says NOTHING about releasing when you catch from the canals,, this was confirmed by a long time Disney fishing guide.
However, it is my opinion, and I would not eat fish caught outta Disneys waters simply because over the many years there has been a lot of stuff washed into the waters, soaps, cleaners, fertilizers, pesticides, etc.
Other folk disagree with me,, but thats my opinion.

thanks Frank for the information I am looking forward to some fishing while we are there. I think for the comfort we will stay in the cabins our 1st trip till i get the hang of disney we are planning on making it a yearly trip so i can do my tenting another year.I don't want to stay at a value cause I really like what I have been reading here about all you can do at the Fort. and want to rent a golf cart too so i can get around and see all the campsites ect...

It is definitely hot in August, but you can do it. When my daughter swam year round, the only time off was a week in August. So we made do.
After she no longer swam, we continued to go back in August for our anniversary. That is also where we honeymooned. We now try to go in December because the kids are all grown and we don't have to worry about the school schedule. I would suggest doing the parks in the morning and evening. Go back to the fort in the afternoon and swim, relax, etc, and you should be fine. Have a great time.

A cabin sounds like a great start and you can use your golf cart looping to scope out the campgrounds and other camper's setups to get some ideas for future trips.

that's good advise I think by afternoon I will be needing a nap anyways lol we will be having our wedding and honeymoon there also in October plans to stay 2 weeks in Oct. Aug still not sure if were staying one or 2 weeks.

Depending on how long you're staying, and if you're looking to save a little money, you might want to check out the off-site rental companies in THIS THREAD. A week+ rental from someone like Tee Time will save you a BUNCH over Disney's rates.

thanks i had read about off site rentals and planned on going that route we will be staying there for 2 weeks

You picked a good time to visit, as FL schools will be starting that week, helping to reduce crowds.
One thing to be aware of, is that that is prime afternoon rain season. You can expect a rain storm every afternoon around 3-5pm, so pack accordingly. Bring some ponchos with you and keep them handy. (another good reason to pick a cabin for your first visit)

I'm from Louisiana and would never stay in a tent in the month of August. As stated the heat and humidity is not just bad but VERY bad! I would use this trip as a scouting trip for the big trip in Oct. I would be frugal and save my money for all the extras such as MNSSHP (extra ticket) and Hoop De Doo Revue. Just remember that you will not be able to see and do it all in one trip. Good luck and have fun.
