I am staying DVC for the first time compliments of a friend.

Question is, am I expected to clean/clear the room out like other time shares?

TIA

I typically clean out the fridge and put all the trash in the main wastebasket. If the trash room is close sometimes I take it down. I load the dishwasher and start it.

I thought Mousekeeping did that?

They do, but many people like to clean up after themselves and will do some straightening up / cleaning before they leave. IMO just the decent thing to do, but I'm sure many look at it as "I'm on vacation, and it's not my job"

Thank you. I don't plan on leaving a mess since we're pretty neat people at home (ok, so I'm OCD :lmao:) but I wasn't sure since I've been reading of people stripping the bed, etc.

My concern before check out is mostly the kitchen. I usually place dishes (including glass coffee pot) in dishwasher and run it. Knot up trash bag if full then in the bathrooms I make sure all dirty towels are in one pile. I don't think changing sheets or overall vacuming is needed from me. That is for mousekeeping to get done for the next guests. I do believe this is why I am kept waiting for my room UNTIL EXACTLY 4PM but well worth it for a presentable room with possibly a GREAT view!!

I empty all the trash in to the bins and clear out the fridge and stack the dishwasher. I put all the towels in one bathroom but otherwise I leave it. We aren't messy people anyway so I think its Mousekeepings job to strip the beds, hovver and generally clean around.

DVC is treated like a regular hotel room in that you are expected to clean out your stuff to a point. Think what you would be comfortable doing if you were the maid and then do that. Be nice but you also have the right to leave things a bit out of place as you are paying for that convenience.

Just treat the place well.

I definitely won't leave a mess and I also plan on tipping. I had just read how some people strip the bed, vacuum, etc. I wasn't sure if that was expected.

We don't strip the beds but do leave them so there is no doubt they were slept in so mousekeeping will change the sheets. We also leave the sofa bed open or semi open with the sheets on it if it has been used. We also take out the garbage to the trash room on our way to the car. I usually pile the dirty towels in the bathroom sink - having a bad back myself I try to make it easy for them to be picked up. We also load and start the dishwasher. It just seems that doing a few littler things should make it easier and faster for the rooms to be cleaned and hopefully make them available earlier. If you do find any issues that need attention please call maintenance and report them. There is a number on the phone. Hope you have a wonderful time.

You are not expected to do any cleaning; it's just that a lot of members like to make it easier for the housekeeping staff, and thus make for a quicker turnover.

you get trash and fresh towels 4 day. you must keep your room clean and make your own beds.
