We are thinking about a cruise for April 2005. I've never been on a cruise, so I nothing about what room to book. We are a family of four- 2 DD ages 10 & 13, DH who is '6 4". What room would fit us so we are not totally cramped. I do like the verandah but are they worth it? I just starting to read about the "secret porthole rooms on 5th deck, would those be the best value?

Thanks so much for all your help.:wave2:

If you are willing to pay the extra bucks, go for a bigger room. If you are trying to go on a budget, go cat. 11 or 10.

We had 3 in a cat. 11 (ds-12 and dh is 6'2). We didn't have any problems, we were not in the room that much.

My sister had 4 in their cat. 11. Their room was slightly set up different because of the pull down bunk. In this room were my sister, her dh (6' 5") dd-12 and ds-8. They said it was fine.

Now, with 2 teenage girls, you probably would appreciate at least a cat. 10 that is the same space but has the split bathroom.

Have fun!

We loved our veranda.

Here is the scoop....

You can stay in an inside stateroom. A lot of people say these are just fine and you don't spend a lot time in your room anyway. I'd consider this if I was a late night, sleep in person (easier to sleep in when the sun isn't waking you up), but I'm a morning, natural light person, so inside wasn't in the set we considered.

You can have a porthole room. The "secret porthole" rooms have a blocked view, but you still get the light (if that's what you are looking for). They can be a great "value" if what you are looking for is the light and a little bit of a view.

You can have a veranda. We decided - given that we knew we wanted light - that the cost difference between porthole and veranda wasn't that much and was worth it to us. We didn't spend a ton of time out on our veranda, but it was sure nice time when we did. Sunrise on your own veranda is particularly nice - as is evening when the kids are asleep. But the cost difference wasn't much "to us." Your own situation may be different and you have to decide where it is worthwhile to spend your money.
