1st time at Poly!!!

I am so excited!!! This is also our first time at the Poly (leaving in 13 days). We are staying Concierge for the first time too! Thanks for this thread!:woohoo:

17 Days and counting for our first trip to the Poly! We have a large party (15) meeting there at different times during the day! Some will be arriving late Friday night, will they still be escorted to their rooms? We are a little nervous about the late arrivals.

We'll be there the 8th-13th. First stay at Poly. After reading all the great things that go on, I just cant wait.

Everyone is escorted to their room on a golf cart. Have a great time!:goodvibes

This is probably only true if you arrive with alot of luggage or if you specifically request to be escorted. We just walked to our room, as did most of the others I saw arriving while we were there. We used ME so our luggage was delivered to the room. When we checked in they did not offer to escort us, just gave us a map of the resort marked the location of the longhouse. If they had offered I would have declined since I knew where we were going.

I have stayed at the poly 3 different times and we have been golf-carted to our room each time without asking. Maybe if you are magical express they don't do it (we always arrive by car) since there is no luggage to take? Maybe the time of your stay has something to do with it to. We are always there in early Sept. so that is pretty much a slower time. We check in a week from tomorrow...can't wait!

When on the beach, stop and listen even during the day. You can hear Mickey opening the park in the morning and the parade music, shows like Cinderellabration( I know that is an older show, but whatever it's replacement). It is just loud enough to hear from the hammocks if you listen, but you could overlook it if in a hurry. My husband likes to sleep in on vacation and I would take the kids out to breakfast early and then lie in a hammock while they played in the sand. Brought tears to my eyes when I heard the park opening ceremony. Caught me off guard.

Two words: Lapu Lapu!

Okay, some more words...it is a really yummy drink in a pineapple. Don't get it at the pool bar, though, they don't have the pineapples! Get it at the Tambu Lounge or Ohana's, or Kona.

Thanks for the heads up. That would have been a pricey thing to find out for myself!!

Can you really hear that stuff from the beach? I am not saying you're wrong or anything, I am asking because the times when my family and I have had a Magic Kingdom view at the Contemporary, I have tried to listen when Mickey would open the park and not hear anything. So it's weird to think that you could hear it from the beach since it's farther away from the Magic Kingdom, compared to a Magic Kingdom view room at the Contemporary which is a lot closer.

This thread is making me excited and nervous (just like the whole trip ;) ) I hope we requested/get the best rooms for us, are there any bad rooms we should try and avoid?

This is my first real trip to WDW (last two have been one day visits while visiting my in-laws) and DH and I are going to be celebrating my birthday so I really want this to be a truely amazing trip!

Yes you can really hear it from the beach. I was in the hammock that is farthest to the right when facing MK. It was in the distance, but you could hear it. It is actually the first time I have ever heard it as we are late risers in the a.m. and have never made it to park opening. We could also hear the daytime parade from the same hammock I am surprised if you could not hear from the Contemporary before because I have been able to hear music and Cinderellabration from the 5th floor of the Wilderness Lodge NOrth Wing WOods view before. Maybe it's the angle of the Contemporary.

Well I think I’m a little more frugal then I thought I was. Let me start by saying the Poly and the Beach Club were very nice. The Poly was great when going to MK and OK when going to EPCOT as long as you caught the monorail from the TTC. The Beach Club was great for going to EPCOT and MGM. The bus transportation from both of those locations was not as good as CSR IMO. The pool at the BC/YC is wonderful, the sand bottom felt great on my tired feet and just walking and floating around in that pool felt really good on my sore muscles. The Poly pool was cute but really not a big deal. The view of fireworks from the Poly was great. The smell in the hallways that everyone raves about at the Poly I found annoying and very sickly sweet, I strongly suspect that they are trying to mask a damp mildew odor. I didn’t care for the sink and mirror in the bathroom either. It’s nice having that area free to use while someone takes a shower.

We missed the breakfast choices that are offered at the foodcourts, especially at CSR.

For the money, and I’m talking about rack rate, I really like CSR or POFQ much better then the both of them. Don’t get me wrong both resorts were good and I am very appreciative that I had gotten such a great deal making it affordable for us to stay at both but I would never pay rack rate or probably even a normal discounted rate to stay at either ever again. I suppose I’m just a moderate kinda girl. I do still have to give CR, AK, OKW and WL a shot yet though!

It really is great that Disney has so many resorts for so many people and their likes! It was a great opportunity but as I said I would never pay full price or even the normal discount price that is offered. We got the Poly for 3 adults with tax for $163.84 a night. The regular rate without tax it $354.00. I would maybe pay $200.00 but anything above that would make it really not a good deal for me and my family. I would be disappointed with the amenities for anything over $200.0 to be honest with you. You really are not missing anything but if you can score a good deal like I got jump on it.

I guess you must define Epcot as the World Showcase since you can get from the Poly to Future World as fast or faster than you can get to Future World from the Beach Club.:confused3

And most people would prefer taking the monorail to walking.;)

But I would agree that if you were going to spend the majority of your time in Epcot and MGM then the Beach Club would be a "better" location.
