1st time at animal kingdom, must do's??

Definatly see Festival of the Lion King. :flower: That's my favorite show in AK, and maybe in WDW.

I'll agree with a bunch of the above posts, skip Tough to Be A Bug, (unless your kids really like bugs,) and Dinosuar. Though I did ride with an 8 year old who was fine on both, but I was a teenager, and hated both.

Also, unless your kids are huge Pocahontas fans, I'd skip that show to, as it is rather boring, and no where near as good as other Disney shows.

And of course there's character greeting, though the only place I've ever seen characters is at Camp Minnie Mickey, and then it was Flik, King Louie, and I think Rafiki, in addition to the fab five.

The Pocahantus show is our favorite, along with the parade. I like Dinosaur, but it may be too intense for your children.

Heard do the safari first thing in the morning if possible. Which would be good to get a fast pass the lionking show, its tough to be a bug or kali rapids?
thanks Diane

LION KING, LION KING, LION KING, LION KING!

And if your child gets pulled from the audience do yourself a favor and take out the video camera. Not only was my child pulled from the audience but she was the one that Timon bent down to and said "Everyone was wonderful but you were perfect." or something close to that. Of course Lion King was her favorite at that time and it made the entire trip. All of us were crying because it was so wonderful for her  . She came running back to her seat with the biggest smile on her face. And of course the video camera was tucked safely in its case. :headache: :headache: :headache:

The Safari is wonderful. It's Tough to Be a Bug is also really cute, but kids sometimes get scared, especially the younger ones.

My 7 year old liked the Safari, Kali River Rapids, It's Tough to be a Bug, and Playing at the Dinousar dig site. She rode Dinosaur with her eyes closed because she was afraid but, she wants to ride it again this year.

my kids love everything but bugs life. My dh got a stinger to the spine last time and it hurt for a couple of hours.

It really depends on your kids. I mean, my kids loved Dinosaur, even my 4 year old....we ran right back on after getting off. :rotfl:

But none of them liked the Bug's Life one, and quite frankly, neither did I. I have this thing about spiders..... :sad2:

Some people love the River Rapids. I will never go on it again as long as I live, and my kids agreed (to me, there's nothing worse than have a full sheet of water dumped on you. When we went on it, the boat ended up turned to where I was going down the hill backwards, which forced the water up & over. It was a literal wall of water, according to my dad, who saw the whole thing.)

So, it really just depends on the person/persons. Research is the key--ask your kids what they'd be interested in. :)

The first time we went to AK we breezed right thru and came away dissappointed. We gave it a chance the next time and found we LOVED it.

I cannot stress how good Flights of Wonder is. We tell people going not to miss it, and they go and say, "bird show, we don't have time for a bird show." You will truly miss something great if you don't go.

I was going to say the exact same thing. This show is GREAT. Kids that age will love it. It is different every time too. We really enjoy this show and see it every time. I can't believe more people haven't recommended it!

I would also recommend, the Safari, Lion King, and both walking trails. If you think your kids can handle it, Its Tough to Be a Bug is also really good.

Don't miss the safari, the Festival of the Lion King show, Tough to be a Bug, Dinosaur (if they are tall enough).

Take the kids to Camp Minnie Mickey for photos and autographs with the characters. Also, we think the face painting by the Safari is the best we have seen in ANY park!! Its a must do for my girls to get their faces painted in AK!! Pizzafari is our favorite place to eat there. We like doing the walking trails to see the animals and the bats! Other than the train ride and seeing Stanley, my kids werent thrilled with Conservation Station .... no... they changed the name I think.. Rafikis Planet Watch?? lol We did that once and wont be going back. Rather boring for them. We love Its Tough to Be a Bug ( even my 3 year old loves the "bug that farts on us". :sad2: My kids like to go in The Boneyard playground and also like the new Dinoland. games are WAY too expensive. But the girls ride Primeval Whirl while my son likes Triceratops Spin ( dumbo with dinosaurs) Pocahontas has a show too. I wanted to take my DS to see that, because she has real live 'forest friends' I thought he would like.. but our timing was always off to see it. And of course all the other must do favorties everyone else listed!!
