1st haircut at MK, how much?

Thanks, everyone. I have put it on our agenda. It is her actual first haircut, and her hair is down to her nose in the front. I was only going to have them cut the bangs anyway, so maybe we'll get the $5 deal, which would be fantastic! But I am willing to pay the $14 anyway, cause I think that's not a bad deal for the experience.

She's a cutie! And she's got a lot of hair already! I couldn't make those tiny pigtails with my daughter's hair till she was almost 18 months old.

And here are a few pics of Alyssa's first cut:

Sorry for hijacking the thread with a question, but.... :sunny:

Is there an age restriction for getting the first haircut? My dd is 3 and has never had her haircut - not even a trim! :earseek: I love the idea of getting her first haircut at MK when we go in December (DH is still hesitant though -"cut her hair?!?!?" :rotfl: and the price is great! I just wasn't sure if they would question us on the first haircut to get the mickey ears and certificate. Although her hair is almost down to her waist. It's thin though and doesn't seem that long! What do you guys think???

DD had her first haircut (and donated to Locks of Love) at the barber shop last year. She was 5.5 years at the time. DH was very hesitant about losing hair down to her butt, too, but he couldn't argue with her reasoning for doing so. It was a great experience, and the photos are priceless memories to us! :wizard:

I am reading & smirking.

DD 23mnths when we went in June. We were going to have her 1st haircut then. We walked in & she was very hesitant. DS 14 decides he is going to get is hair cut (w/mickey confetti & color). DD 14 decides she is getting a trim (also confetti) other DS14 is hesitant then sees first sons hair & gets his with color & confetti only. DD23mnths leaves without a hair cut! lol

Well, atleast DS #1 finally got his cut it was in dire (sp?) need! Only problem is he hasn't had a haircut since. He has very thick hair. His grandmother is going crazy (she is a hairdresser).
Maybe DS#1 & DD2 will get hair cuts when we go in November. I keep telling my mom that is why he won't let her cut his hair. lol

Nice to know about the Mickey ears. I had no idea.

I've done the Locks of Love before with my hair a couple of times. It's cool to do something like that. The first time I did it, I had no idea about it until the hairdresser asked me if that was ok. My hair was almost to my waist and I was going to just above shoulder-length already. I was glad she asked me! :sunny:

Michal did our son's first haircut last October, and he'll (hopefully) be the one to cut it again this November!!

Hands down...best deal anywhere at Disney!

If you want Michal to cut hair, he works Wednesday to Saturday only. He's the barber with the longest tenure there - over 7 years.

I got both of my kids hair cut there in August. They did the colored gel with the Mickey heads and Pixie dust. They loved it! It was their first professional cut but i didn't get the my first hair cut stuff for them.

If you pay $14 for the "My 1st haircut", how much do you tip? I think dh usually tips $2 and he'll pay around $12 for the cut itself when he gets his cut at the mall. I had never thought to tip my hairstylist until dh told me he does his. The funny thing is, he doesn't feel the need/point to tip in most other circumstances. :confused3 We tip when we go out to eat at a sit down restaurant and that's pretty much it. When I mentioned tipping Mousekeeping a while back he thought "Why?" I guess women don't understand men just like men don't understand women (except I'm sure we understand a little bit more! :teeth: )

I have to give you a Grandmother's perspective on this. We were down at MK last November with my Grandson and my daughter said she wanted to get his haircut (she remembers her brothers getting their's done years ago). I wasn't too sure about it, but we went, waiting in line for about 45 minutes and had just the greatest time watching all the different "haircuts". It was the greatest experience and they were absolutely wonderful with the kids (of all ages). For the 1st haircut, it's probably the BEST buy at DW all the hoopla/and special goodies for no extra charge. Well worth the time!

Maybe this is a regional thing, but in NYC we tip practially everyone (taxis, delivery guys, restaurants, doorman, etc...).

For my DS's haircut in MK, I tipped the hairstylist $10 for his $12 cut. She did an amazing job and my mom said anyone who has all that patience to work with children all day deserves it.

Here in NYC, usually pay $28 for DS's haircuts every 6 weeks and I give his regular stylist $7 and the "entertainer" (usually an extra girl in the salon they get to blow bubbles) $3. My son needs all the distractions. These people really have to put up with a lot and deserve any and all tips they receive.

Michael cut our little one's hair on 10/1 too!!! We were the first cut of the day. It was AWESOME!!!!!

NO FAIR! my DD is bald as can be! she has wisp hair haha....we leave in 2 days...no first haicut for her :(
