1st family DL trip - planned Sept. 2010

Good points guys.

For me, I think it would be more of a headache to check-in to a DL resort hotel for 1 or 2 nights, then have to pack up and move into our planned location further south, as opposed to having one place we can call home for the entire week, especially since DL will represent only about 25% of our vacation.

That's just me though.

It really isn't a hassle especially if it at the beginning or end of a trip. We've spent 1 night on site 4 times now ~ mostly for the MM perk, we're AP holders so no MM for us unless we stay on-site ~ I can't afford to/don't want to *would rather spend my $$ on other things* stay on-site the entire time, so we plan it so that our last or 1st night is spent on site and the others are spent off site. Last July we visited DLR for just one day during a San Diego visit ~ we spent 2 nights near DLR *HoJo* this was right in the middle of our visit but my mom stayed in San Diego *she was there for work so she stayed in the room while we were gone. If me and my 2 kids can do it I'm sure you can.

The crowds won't be bad until you hit labor day.

Have to disagree, I was there last year in the week the AP's were unblocked and it was a mad house. Sure you can get there early and get things done, but after that it turns into a human stew until after 2200. We go every August and going at that time was a big tactical mistake on my part, but I am limited to taking vacation at that time since the practice is much slower in August.

Does your statement apply to a Thursday?

It will be less busy on a Thursday, but if I remember correctly 8/22 starts the unblocking of the AP's(someone correct me if I am wrong) and we were there on a Thurs 8/21 and it was really no different except for the evening hours were much worse(people taking 3 day weekends) With WOC finally being accessable to the AP's(2 bottom tier) and just everyone else wanting to see WOC after the block it should be interesting. The big reason why we went for the 15-21st this year. I will let everyone know how it is when I am there. Very subjective as Trey says.
We have gone every August since 97 and the worst was last year, but we still had a great time since we follow the "Hydroguy" rules.
