1st Day Back at School & a Broken Arm - Ideas Please

No, blanq, you're not a mean mom. We didn't do anything real special for DS3 when he broke his arm (unless you count the reams of cards DD6 brings home for him). We tried to make him as comfortable as possible and tried to take the focus off of his injury. Oh, and I did get him a new white board for his pin removal day (they used a vice grip to yank them out of his arm, no anesthesia). He loves white boards, and it's a 90-minute drive to the hospital he needed to go to.

I took the OP's question to be more about easing the way for her injured child, NOT lavishing the child with gifts and treats.

Thanks everyone! I really appreciated all of the suggestions and input. She got her cast today. Unfortunately, we weren't able to get a waterproof cast. She got a bright pink one which at least made her smile. She will hopefully only have to wear it for 3 - 4 weeks, so hopefully it won't be too bad. She has been an absolute trooper. She has definitely handled it better than me. :rotfl:

When DS10 broke his arm the first time he was 8 months old. We kept the cast and had it framed in a shadow box with a little brass plate with the date he broke it and a picture of him in the cast. That would be really cool to do if you get the characters to sign it!

Our then 3 yo DD broke her arm last year while we were at Disney...she got knocked off the bed in our hotel room. Anyway, she did not have a cast on while we were there, but did have a sling on (her break was high up on the inside of her arm, so not cast-able).

Anyway, she got lots of get well wishes and kisses from the characters. I cried and felt absolutely awful that this happened to her. Once we got out of the ER at Celebration Hospital, not a single tear from her--AT ALL! She didn't need the pain meds...nothing. She wore that sling for a month like a trooper and was good as new. Kids are so so resilient--way better than adults ;).

Have fun! I hope she heals quickly!

Just a second vote for the Glad Press and Seal! I would buy a roll to take on your trip..I use it to cover my daughter's port when she needs a shower while it's accessed and while I wouldn't spray the shower directly on it, it does work really well. I would think that with a bread bag or something similar over it would work well on the water rides also! Yes, I did say a bread bag..lol..I broke both arms multiple times growing up and a bread bag is just the right size and length, but still lightweight! Just make sure it doesn't have any obvious holes :)
